Last Tomb Raider I played was that god awful one Angel of Darkness(only played the demo of Legend), the originals however were games I enjoyed alot back in the 90's. Its nice to see them brought back to life but severely updated close to today's standards. Might have to give this a go, especially since my old system still beats the minimum requirements.

That was the last one I played too. I was completely pissed by the horrible cut scenes and haven't picked up one yet. Not sure if this will be any different, so I'll wait till someone plays first and lets me know how it is. I guess the demo does come out tomorrow doesn't it...

And I'm pissed at you two. Fellow LFMers and you haven't posted in my 6K topic yet. Tisk tisk. sneaky2.gif

Yeah Angel of Darkness was pretty bad. I had it but I didn't play it much, however Legend was really good in most ways except it was really short. Presumably as the engine and so on has remained the same as it was in Legend, the storyline and other contents will get more focus this time.

I can barely remember the original game and considering how hilariously bad it looks I wouldn't play it today even if I still had a copy, but this has sounded like a great idea ever since it was revealed Core Design were making a version which got canceled or whatever it was, and then that Crystal Dynamics was going to do it.

Skyline_Mad

Anybody played the PC Demo yet? It was released 5 hours ago, i have just finnished it.

Its a 270mb file, Downloaded it in 20 mins on a 2mb line using the Eidos Mirror.

It feels alot like Tomb Raider Legend which is good, the full game is gonna feature at least all the original levels (15) from Tomb Raider 1, completely redesigned to be longer and more challenging. The main problem with Legend was that it was too short, but this time round its gonna be at least twice the lenth of Legend by the sounds of things.

The level featured in the Demo is Peru:The Lost Valley (the one with the Dinosaurs and Cogs), its only a part of the level like in the Legend Demo, it ends just as you get to the T-Rex, after you kill a few Veloceraptors, the only thing i didn't like is not being able to save it wherever you want, like in some of the earlyer TR games, cos some of the jumps you have to make are tricky, especialy if you pc cant handle it well and is a bit jumpy in places (even on 800x600, my pc is ancient now (XP 2000, gForce5 1gb ram), most people shoouldn't have much trouble), if you miss the jumps you either fall down a very deep pit, or fall in the river nd end up at the begining, i found it quicker to kill myself and return to previous checkpoint if you land in the river.

Fans of the original should recognise parts of the level as you go through the demo, places like the big open room with the waterfall and conecting river, and the final bit with the dinos.

Really short demo but good to see what it is going to be like.

If you have "full screen effects" on try disabling it Skyline_Mad, seemed to make it lag a bit in places on mine but with it disabled it's fine, not sure why that is there anyway it just seems to make the screen blur a little when you turn the camera.

Yea I had a similar experience I enjoyed playing through the 1st 2 installments or so and just found myself a bit bored after that with the follow ups (Not even using the rotational camera to pervishly oggle all of Lara's polygons held any more thrills tounge2.gif ).

But Legend was a bit of a step up from previous fair, no doubt. If they can recreate those 1st few games to that standard there might be a bit more than obvious nolstalgia to hold our attentions.

original gangster

Is it just me, or did they go WAY overboard with the blur? Kills my eyes after a while, disabling the Depth of Field seems to fix it though. Apart from that, I really enjoyed the demo. Nice update to the old classic. There's even an option to switch to manual grab to make it more like the old TR's.

Well, I got the Collectors Edition delivered from GAME this morning. I have to say I'm enjoying it and I haven't even tried the proper game yet. I've just been so doing all the puzzles in the mansion. I'm guessing I've solved most of what I need to do here I'm just trying to work out what I'm supposed to do next - turn the water on or get inside the room with the musical lock. Hmmm.

I do want to try the first level but I feel compelled to solve this now.

EDIT: Aha! A little bit more exploring and it all becomes clear.

I also got my collectors edition from Game this morning too (actualy it was after noon it arrived), have spent most of the time on the story, I'm on the fith level "St. Francis Folly" i remember i used to hate this level, if i were to put one of the keys in the lock before collecting the rest, and died, it would mess up once i had reloaded it, it would forget i had used the keys and as it took them away from me it wouldn't oped the door.

So far this game is alot more interesting and challenging than the original, only bad thing so far is the first 2 levels were too easy and were completed in like 15 minutes, but after that they get harder and longer.

I havn't been in the mansion much but like the fact that its bigger than in legend, and that you can go outside, i noticed theres a maze and maze map but cant get in yet only a certain time of day its open (bit stupid as its her house, its no theme park lol), i got stuck in the library once, couldn't find out how to get out lol, and the other time i spent looking for the grapling hook but couldn't find it, have you got the hook yet carpetdweller? Also i found a cog on top of the boxes in main room, any idea where that goes?

CarpetDweller

I think the majority of my problems with the mansion came from the fact I picked up the grappling hook last. It's found in The Maze.

As for the maze having certain opening hours - I don't believe time changes in the mansion level. It's always a starry sky. So you might want to think about what else the opening hours sign might refer to. Although you've probably already sussed it by now. It's also mentioned in one of the open books.

The cog you've found is one of 3 pieces you need for a certain thing to happen I guarantee you've at least seen one of the others.

I still haven't finished that lost valley part. I've got all the cogs, but I just can't seem to make a particular jump on the way back to put it in place. I'm sure I'll do it tomorrow.

Got the full game. It's a shame the Next Gen option isn't included like on Legends, but I guess that comes from it mainly being a ps2 release so the PC version is limited.

Maybe they'll patch it one day to boost the gfx next gen...

Awesome re-make though.
