Is anybody here interested in ATVs? I rarely see any talk about them here. I have a 1999 Yamaha Warrior 350 and I love it. It's quick when you need it to be, and really easy to drive when you're lazy, I only got it about 2 months ago and the weather's been cold until very recently, so I didn't have much time to actually ride it. I have a picture of it from a few weeks ago, and it's changed a bit since then.

Right now it's cleaner, has new front tires, and no lights (I dropped and broke both of them blush.gif ) And yes, the right handlebar is bent down, but it's barely noticeable unless you already know it's bent.

So yea, does anybody else have one?

This is me, shortly after my last ATV ride (04/20/07). Shoulder of the road gave out on a straight, and sent the bike into the ditch. I was stupid and wasn't wearing a helmet. Bike was totaled.

Always, always wear a helmet.

Ouch, what were you riding? I don't have a helmet, but I know I should get one soon. It gets kinda scary when you break 100 km/h on a dirt road, which I've already done a few times.

It was a Polaris hunting-style ATV. Belonged to my uncle, thankfully it was insured.

You're a lucky man, now when I think of it and after seeing that pic, I'm always going to wear my helmet when I go cruising on the back of my friends' Honda CBF 250.

Went on the motorway the other day, I was so unsure about it. Anyway, 70mph on that bike feels good, don't get me wrong, but a gust of wind hit the side of the bike (Honday CBF 250)and I swear it felt like we were just going to fall off. I was so scared, but lucky to be honest.

DEATH OF THE SKY

I went to the Mini 45th anniversary show in 1994 (i think) and they had some 50cc ones there that we qeued up for for ages, they where fun, even if my brother forgot to steer and kept going into the side of the track and bouncing off (it was inflatable XD). A bloke at primary school insisted he had a quad, and i wanted to go round his and see it all week, but he kept insisting it was a "two wheel quad", and i thought he had two wheels off it, but he said it was made to have two wheels "but it says quad on the side!", he showed me into the shed where a moped awaited, but he still insisted it said "quad" on the side, i looked and it said "moped". I dunno what he'd been taking...

Own a Raptor 500, my one friend has a scrambler, and the other has a banshee. The 3 of us take our racing machines to the mountains every year right around the beginning of July. That place can get pretty damn scary, let me tell you. We get there and set up camps and pull the quads off the trucks, go rip around late into the night just on the trails right nearby, then early next morning we grab some supplies, and head on our main adventure. 22km along the road (usually doing 60-80km/h) to where the trail begins, it's grasslands and mud at first, then we get to the newb rivers (max 2 feet deep) and cross through them until we get to the rocks a few km down the trail, this gets really scary, in some places you are leaning so your almost touching the ground on one side, and on the other side about half a foot away is a 150ft drop, it's crazy. Other places you pretty much have to trials ride your quads, it's so harsh. Then the 20 foot wide rivers, 1-2 feet deep, not bad. There are a few of these before you get to the real beast of a river. This is the only real spot that you need to flip on 4x4 and for my friend with the banshee, activate his NOS, that's right, he has a big bottle of NOS mounted on the front of his quad, when it's on, that thing is so fast it's unreal. Anyways though, the river is about 10 feet wide, and I don't even know how deep, probably 4 or 5 feet deep, all I know is the water is over your handlebars, your entire quad is submerged, and you are pushing on the throttle hoping that your tires will catch some traction on the rocks and pull you out. If not, the rushing river usually flips you, and that's a pain in the ass to winch out with the scrambler. Our goal though is achieved after this, when we get to the massive 200 foot drop waterfall, no fences, no people, just you and the beast. It's fun to climb around, although dangerous.

Usually the next day we head up the half hour drive up this mountain, when your up there you can see on a clear day 10km+ away, we saw a helicopter way below us flying through the mountains, the horizon up there literally looks like a painting.

Anyways though, that's my story. biggrin.gif

Sounds like fun, but as far as I know there is no raptor 500, there's a 350, 660 and 700 though. But how would you go through water up to the handlebars if the airbox is under the seat, or do you have a snorkel or something?

I've been through water past my footpegs a few times and I made it even with almost bald rear tires.

Yeah sorry my bad, I was thinking of the scrambler when I was posting, it's a 700, and yes we have snorkels on them, learned that the hard way, I would post a picture if my digi camera hadn't of crapped out 3 days ago, kind of dropped it down the stairs. sad.gif

-Edit: I used to have an old Ozark 250 with no snorkel that would go through that water, and come out perfectly fine.

I envy you. tounge2.gif

I wanted to get a Raptor 660 instead of this Warrior, but it was too powerful for me at the time, but now that I can actually ride an ATV normally I really want one. The Warrior has no top-end power so it's boring on straight roads, but fun as hell to slide and drift.

I have a 2000 Honda 400ex and I f*cking love this quad. smile.gif

Has quite a few upgrades as well. tounge.gif

Yep, those are sick machines, you're all making me feel so crappy though, because those are the exact ATV's I wanted before I settled for the Warrior. biggrin.gif Any engine mods apart from the pipe on the 400EX? Also, my Warrior has a pipe, K&N air filter and a jet kit, what else could I add to get more power? All I really need is a bit more top end or low-end torque. It's got more than enough midrange power, but when it gets past a certain RPM, the power just drops as if I let off the throttle to less than half.

And here's a crappy little picture of me doing a wheelie, just for the hell of it.

If you have a pipe and K&N filter, you should get a jet kit. You might not be getting enough fuel, which is killing you power. I heard you can get a 10-ish% increase after the filter and pipe with a jet kit.

I want to get a camshaft, but I'm not sure if it's worth $200.

Yeah, I forgot that I have a jet kit also.

How fast is that 400EX anyway? I've heard that they're really quick for the motor size. What's the approximate top speed?

To be honest, I never really thought about how fast I was going, because I just got the quad in Febuary and I mostly drove it on road and a few times at a local field, so I am not sure. I just know its damn fast.

Cool, so you had that for about as long as I had mine. Sorry about all the question, I just want to get to know more about that machine, I was about to get one, but the seller never responded to any calls or emails, so I want to know if I missed out an alot.

Anyone here snorkel your air intake? I have on my raptor, before I had it go through a river over the handlebars and it flooded my bike, I had to be towed 20 km's back in neutral by my buddies outlander.

Edit - Also, warrior's may be slow, but from what I've heard, the engine is practically bulletproof.

I don't think snorkeling would be that hard, you just need alot of rubber tubing, clamps and silicone sealant.

But my Warrior isn't exactly slow, maybe the stock ones are, but when I open the throttle, it just goes through the first 3 gears so quickly that I barely have enough time to shift. And as far as I know, mine just has an aftermarket exhaust, jet kit and K&N air filter. It might have some other things, but I wouldn't know because I bought it used from the father of the owner, who knew nothing about it. And yea, the motor is durable, I actually ran it without oil for a few minutes, and everything's still fine. But it's a very strange motor, for example, it's really hard to put it into neutral if the engine is cold. dontgetit.gif
