Just throwing that out there because I'm tired of hearing people ranting about how we evolved from chimps. Ergo, we did evolve from monkeys, albeit, none of the currently existing ones. And yeah, most certainly not from chimps. K^2 Posted May 24, 2007 Share Posted May 24, 2007 You are right. I forgot about Lemurs, etc. Formally, apes are not considered monkeys either, but they often are called such in common usage. Either way, however, if you dig far enough back, you'll get a common ancestor between apes and monkeys as well (~25 million years back), so you do have a monkey ancestor, even if you want to be strict about what you call a monkey. I believe all creatures do have a common ancestor, which means all creatures should have come from the same common creature, which we still haven't figured out. If you have something to say, do so in an elaborate manner, not just changing a few short words in one sentence. Anyway, what about the missing link? I kind of forget where-abouts that comes in human evolution, but I'm pretty sure it was right before homo-sapien right? I watched a National Geographic special on that once, and I've read a few books where some crazy cooks reckon that homo-sapiens weren't evolved from earlier humans, but instead cross-bred with alien genetics. Kind of a crazy realm of though, but kind of interesting nonetheless. Does anyone know the scientific name of the first human species to evolve from primates? Now generally assumed to be Australopithecus... here's a chart from wikipedia showing our ancestors. Along those lines, and just to provide fodder for conversation, I was really enrapt by the BBC documentary series "walking with prehistoric beasts," and this mini-series focuses mainly on our crazy little cousins.
