Yup, its Wii!

Come here and talk about your views on Wii, upcoming games, problems, game reviews, ideas and more...

Anyway, to start you off, here's a few conversation points:

The Wii remote - Great idea or just a gimmick?

Manhunt 2 for Wii - Is it going to work? etc. Check out the trailers: Here

Sadness - Not much known about this one, a horror game with some interesting visual styles. Check out the trailer: Here

Anyway, discuss...

After 5 months with the wii, it is my humble opinion that the wiimote and nunchuck is just a different way of controlling your games, not better, just different. the aiming with the wiimote isn't precise enough to use it like a light gun, so a cursor is required basically turning it into a less precise mouse.

in the end, you are stuck with sub-par graphics and a different controller, there will be games that take advantage of the unique controller, but after all is said and done, its not better, just different.

it is also a shame that all our favorite Nintendo titles are going to this "different" style of control. i want a legacy style control option for some of them sad.gif. i want mario party 8, but hope it isn't going to be wii play + rayman + different crappy visials.

i want an improved, expanded mario party, not just a different mario party.

It seems to me that the quality of the remote as a light-gun varies from game to game. I struggled with it with COD3, but I found that it worked very well with Red Steel.

As for the option of 'normal' controls, I had thought about that, however it would mean that most third party game developers would take the easy option and develop games without the option to use the Wii remote. This would eventually lead to the lack of use of the remote, and then the Wii would loose its major selling point, and just become a better Gamecube...

you say that like third parties aren't already getting lazy with it, or it isn't already a more powerful gamecube, i mean, it killed super monkeyball, i will never get more new levels for the classic super monkeyball because of the wiis new controls.

and look at super paper mario, apart from the pointing to find doors and sh*t, it pretty much uses a NES controller.

Nintendo cheaped out hardcore on the hardware so they could make a profit from day one, and hoped a "revolutionary" new control scheme would make up for it, but to a gamer like me, its not revolutionary, its different. its a motion sensing mouse. They could have gone with 300 bucks worth of year old PC hardware and gotten a better result than using pumped up 4 year old hardware. i know its all buisness, and i know every company is in it for the money, but damn, i want my analogue stick controlled monkeyball sad.gif

I think Nintendo "cheaped out' on the hardware because they didn't want to be just a high spec 'cube, just as the PS3 is an upgraded PS2. Nintendo have always been about innovation, for instance with the touch screen of the DS. The Wii is no different, Nintendo took a gamble, and we will all just have to wait and see how it pays off.

Its a pity some games don't want to make full use of the Wii's motion sensitivity, however it's not always possible...

Waddy, I'd see what else comes out for it first. You don't want to blow all that cash on something unless you are sure you want it. If you are buying it for the 'fun factor' Wario Ware and Mario Party look like good options too.

so innovation and powerful hardware are mutually exclusive? they can't exist in the same machine? they could have at least TRIED hardware wise. then there would be something to fall back on when the controller ends up being a mouse.

Yeah, I'll concede that you do have a good point there, but Ninty also seem to be fond of affordable gaming too. Think of the price of a Wii if it had PS3 hardware and its control system. Its price is another of its attractive features.

but higher performance is achievable for the price. i think ninty knew they had something which your average airhead on the street was going to buy because its trendy, and never buy a second game outside of wii sports. so they couldn't make a console loss up through game liscencing. but that hurts the gamer.

i remember a time where Nintendo was not only about the gamer, but made the gamer. that time is over, they are now for the dollar, and are most definitely making the dollars.

TheDude5000

I bought one a few months ago, I barely play it. Zelda fanboys totally fizzled any interest I had left in TP, and Wii Sports does get boring after 2 weeks, like one of my friends told me(this same "friend" bought a Wii just to sell it on eBay, and noond bid on it), but the casual gamers can't seem to get enough of it. Super Mario RPG or whatever could just have easily been done on the Gamecube, and most of the rest of the Wii library is comprised of shallow mini-games geared toward casuals. Well, it worked, the system and games are selling like hotcakes, but what about the hardcore gamers? I want something a little more complex and deeper. And I'm getting sick of Nintendo's attitude already, and some of the sh*t they pull, like releasing an internet browser for the DS that's only compatible with the DS-Lite. Oh, way to f*ck over the people who anitcipated your system and bought it on launch. And the Game Boy Micro? I call that the "Jump the shark" moment, when they make game consoles designed for assholes too self-important to buy a gaming system unless it looks all fashionable and sh*t. Speaking of the DS, that thing is selling great too, yet I barely even play it anymore. I did check out the Wii Browser..it was fun messing around looking at my favorited/uploaded videos, but that got boring too.

Well good for Nintendo, for selling so many damn consoles, but where are the damn games?

I like the Wii, but it does get quite boring after a while. In fact I don't even play it anymore, still waiting for all the good games to come - I want my Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid 3: Corruption and whatever new Zelda game they're surely making right now.

I have to say though, playing WarioWare with four mates around is stupidly fun.

After 5 months with the wii, it is my humble opinion that the wiimote and nunchuck is just a different way of controlling your games, not better, just different.

You said what I tried saying like a month ago, but only in less than a paragraph.

I Agree.

About the games:Give it some time. Both the PS3 and Wii don't have any good games worth playing (like 3, tops). None of the new consoles do.

Right now the Wii is running on that "HOLY sh*t MOTION SENSING" factor. It'll wear off.

I bought one a few months ago, I barely play it. Zelda fanboys totally fizzled any interest I had left in TP

Don't let fanboys ruin the game

like one of my friends told me(this same "friend" bought a Wii just to sell it on eBay, and noond bid on it), but the casual gamers can't seem to get enough of it.

I would expect that, since everyone and their grandmother have one anyways.

Super Mario RPG or whatever could just have easily been done on the Gamecube

Yeah, Super Paper Mario was gonna be done on the GCN, but then they switched it over towards the Wii

Speaking of the DS, that thing is selling great too, yet I barely even play it anymore.

Now, wait a sec. I can understand when you say the Wii library is currently only for casuals and lacking any good games, that, I agree with. But you have to give the DS more credit. You don't play it anymore, fine. But don't make it sound as if it's also lacking.

Remember This.

I pretty much agree with E.A.B on everything there. It is just a case of waiting for the good software to come out. After the initial rush of release date games showcasing the 'OMG' factor, there is usually a lull in decent games.

As E.A.B said, don't letfan boys ruin what is almost certainly one of the best Nintendo games ever.

As for the DS, it has a fantastic library of games, and is certainly not showing any signs of slowing down...

Jonny_Tightlips

Added list thingy or whatever. Although, I honestly do not want a Wii. My friend has one, and he usually has enough people over at his house to make it fun. It is, imo, a party console. Wario Ware is hilariously fun. My friends and I have started to make decisions on whoever wins a round of WW.

  • 6 months later...

I just bought Mario galaxy yesterday and I have to say it is quality gaming. I haven't bought a computer game since San Andreas for ps2 because I don't really play them anymore. But I got a Wii a few months ago and only played sports...until this. Galaxy is f*cking awesome. It is like the Mario for N64 with a whole massive pile of features, and we all remember how good Mario 64 was right? I suggest everyone who has a Wii goes and buys this game.

I'm planning on getting a light gun/shoot em’ up game in the next month or two when I've completed galaxy, has anyone else got a shoot em’ up yet? I played red steel without the gun holder and it was pretty lame, the aiming system sucked. Or maybe it was me, who knows.

Honestly, it is a great system, but the only two things keeping me from picking up my remote instead of my 360 controller is how the blue light can't stay on during play, and how the aim is somewhat skewed due to my massive TV and play height.

However, a little console modding can fix those up biggrin.gif

P.S. here are some of my Mii's

But if Sony made it things wouldn't be the same, right?

What do you mean? The PS3 is hard to find?

Yeah they are actually, don't know the release date but they are making one. They also made a machine gun I think. LOL.

I hope they have that duck game they had back then. tounge.gif

For the gun of course.

Yeah, but you had the $

You know whats seriously a huge RIP-OFF? Gamespot!

Ok so I go online at Gamespot.com right, and I'm checking out for how much they'll give you for games, and I saw that if you buy a brand new $60 game and sell it at Gamespot they will only give you $30 bucks for it. Now thats bullsh*t.
