_-playero-_
I read this first on a local business newspaper. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver/facts/default.mspx With the Linux-based platform, we would have a system crash at least once a week. Migrating to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 has virtually eliminated server crashes and we have vendor support. It basically compares Linux vs Windows Server 2003. Anyone with small knowledge about computers and servers will see how this site is basically full of sh*t. |---Discuss. | | |---> edit: It's also on Digg. Saggy
IT Professionals who can't use pre-existing Linux distributions to engineer a platform more stable than Windows are just lazy, in my opinion. Either that or they are just incompetent, but in any case this "Get the Facts" thing has been around for a long time. I guess I can't really praise Linux for its desktop capabilities ( as I'm having tons of instabilities watching video, probably hardware issues more than anything), but I switched my server software to it about five months ago. I wasn't using Windows Server so I guess it's not a fair evaluation, but the Linux server has been free, and hasn't actually crashed on me at all, with a record uptime of 48 days before I had a power outage . I just wish I could get the same sort of stability in my desktop watching video. Currently I have to run a Failsafe terminal and mplayer or else my computer will lock-up and freeze--and even in this configuration, it's still happened once or twice. I'm quite certain this is my hardware causing this, though. AMD Athlon 2600 NVIDA GeForce 2 MX 400 on legacy drivers ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard I haven't actually tried any non-debian flavors on it, but I'm reasonably sure it's the hardware after investigating bug reports and the like. I'm going to try a video-card upgrade first, see if maybe using a not-so-old card will help. In any case, if I remember the whole idea of this was to try to convince people that the cost of using Linux in the long run was more than Windows Server because of the "complexities" with Linux. I really doubt that this holds any water in the real IT world. QUOTE (K^2) ...not only is it legal for you to go around with a concealed penis, it requires absolutely no registration! Wolf68k
It's full of BS because it's Microsoft themselves slamming Linux Like it's like Nazi propaganda saying why everyone else is wrong and they think they are right. If you go to a Chevy dealership and tell them you're debating on getting a Chevy truck or a Ford, the Chevy dealer isn't just going to be feeding a load of BS because he wants to make a sale, but more so because Chevy is writing his pay check. Then you go to a Ford dealer and you'll get the same kind of BS about Chevy from them.
