MBV89
@ ˸øåíüêà Are you using a generic template you found? By the way, where do you live?
K^2
"˸øåíüêà" is a Cyrillic Windows ASCII coding for Unicode "Лёшенька", which is a Russian version of Alex. Gives you a Russian/Ukrainian origin. The flag under the avatar is that of Wales. The site he is working on also points to a region in Wales. I think it would be reasonable to assume that it is where he currently lives. K^2
What version of Windows do you use, Alexey? When you quote a post with Unicode in it, it always gets posted using ASCII. I'm pretty sure that XP would keep Unicode. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns. I'm pretty sure that XP would keep Unicode. i have XP, but when loging in on tose forums i can either enter proper cyrillic letters or just copy those funny character and i will still log in. but i dont know, i think Windows "sees" that most words on the page are english, and loads english encoding... in mine it loads cyrillic(windows) i dont know why. and in college some strange things happen - my username at the top in shown in funny characters while i can see cyrillic letter properly in the forum's posts. Conclusion - Windows is glitchy
K^2
That's the difference between Unicode and ASCII that you are seeing. ASCII uses 8 bits per letter, so you can only store one language, and you have to select a proper encoding. Unicode uses 16 bits, allowing you to encode any letter of any language, so you don't need to use encoding. When I type in Russian, the text is in Unicode. That's why you can see it even on the computer that has no Cyrillic Windows Encoding. But for some reason, when you quote a post in the reply, all of it gets converted into ASCII. I do not understand why. I know this happens on older versions of Windows, but I thought XP should have been able to take care of it. This might actually be the issue with how the script for posting a reply retrieves the post to be quoted from the database. stretch.
Are you solid HTML coding or using something like frontpage? I've had errors in front page when using it to display on mozilla based browsers. Depending on what you have on the server, if you have SQL and PHP, maybe you should look into a simple CMS system like e107 or drupal etc.
