BWilkerson
Hello all, I have spent some time browsing this forum and have tried several of your helpful tips, but I still cannot install San Andreas and am at my wit's end! Here is a brief rundown of my issue: System Specs: Windows XP SP2 Pentium 4 3.6 GHz, 1GB RAM GeForce 6800 w/latest drivers SB Audigy 2 w/latest drivers OK, here's how it started: I bought the GTA:SA 2nd edition DVD-ROM today and put it in my CDRW/DVD drive. I could hear that the disk was being read, but nothing happened. I used Windows Explorer to browse the D: drive, but it displayed as if there was no disc inserted. Tried re-inserting the disc several times with the same result. Tried rebooting, that didn't help. I've played many DVD-ROMs on this computer before with no issues, so I started reading this forum looking for answers. I don't have Daemon Tools or Alcohol or any other disk emulators installed, so that's def. not the problem. I went to my D: drive properties and disabled DLA, rebooted, that didn't change anything. Then, finally, I read a post about installing a patch from Microsoft related to Security Update 917422. I installed that patch, rebooted, and lo and behold! The DVD-ROM was being read and I could use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the D: drive. But- when I double clicked the "Install.exe" from the disc, nothing happened. Waited ten minutes, nothing happened. I re-inserted the disc, and now it's acting as if there is no disc in there, again. If anyone has any suggestions as to why this is happening, I would really appreciate it! And if you need more info let me know! jnzooger
Have you had it installed before? If so, go to your My Documents -> San Andreas User Files and delete the .set file. This happened to me once. BWilkerson
Have you had it installed before? If so, go to your My Documents -> San Andreas User Files and delete the .set file. This happened to me once. Nope, this was my first attempt to install the game, so I don't have any files related to SA on my hard drive. The DVD-ROM itself looks to be in perfect condition, no scratches or anything like that. The disc still could be defective, of course. I don't have any other PCs to try the disc in unfortunately, but my drive reads all other DVD-ROMs without problems... Girish
If your DVD-ROM is working, then maybe the SA disc is faulty. You need a to get a new disc. ashley22419
I am having the exact same issue, I have the second edition of SA and I can hear the cd being read but my computer will not load it at all. The difference here is, my boyfriend has a laptop and the disc works just fine on his computer, it loads as soon as its put in and he plays it all the time. SO....what the heck.
