Demarest
Sorry if this is covered already. I did a preliminary scan and search is disabled. I was curious if anybody had found a way to get to Staunton early? I can get from Staunton to Shoreside Vale early, provided I have a Speeder. But I'd like to know if Staunton has been solved yet. If not, I doubt I'll be able to. But if it has been figured out, I'd like in on the secret. GTA_Loco
Yup there are ways to get to Staunton Island and even SSV very early in the game. Orion_SR has done some vids on these: 1) Orion_SR’s Portland Post Drop. 2) Staunton Warp Zone But the 2nd one I believe can only be performed in the PS2. I tried it several times on the PSP and it doesn't seem to work at all. There's actually another secret in line with these early access to the two locked islands, although that's a bit OT here. Demarest
Good new bad news. Good news that it's possible. Bad news that the visuals are on Google video. I used to be able to watch videos there, but no longer can. Not sure what they changed, but it clashes with my outdated software. Is there a youtube offering? If not, would you be so kind as to share a text version? As for SSV, I can get there if I have access to Staunton and a Speeder. But I'd still be interested in how others do it. Still, I'm glad to hear it's possible. Can't wait to try it myself. I look forward to some non-Google video way. Demarest
Thank you very much for that tip! It not only gets me this info, but helps me in other google only video issues MAD props to the perpetrator of those videos. Whomever it is is not only credited with finding these things, but is clearly a thoughtful video maker too. Outstanding work. GTA_Loco
Orion_SR is the name of that perpetrator A veteran gamer just like yourself. Will you be able to open these? Warp Zone 2 http://www.badongo.com/vid/160005 http://rapidshare.de/files/25261853/Warp_Zone_2.wmv.html Portland Post Remix http://www.badongo.com/vid/163022 http://rapidshare.de/files/25661322/Portla..._Remix.wmv.html Oh well. I guess you got the problem sorted out anyway. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/277936-getting-to-staunton-early/#findComment-4237060 Share on other sites
Demarest
Warp Zone 2 is much better, thanks. I know Orion was credited with the Warp Zone, but I didn't see any credit for the Drop thing. It's not as easy as it looks. I tried the Warp Zone a great deal and was unsuccessful. Though seeing Warp Zone 2 gives me a new idea to try. With the drop one, it's weird. I can get on top just fine. But when I go to follow the train around, I end up falling off. Twice that's happened, including one time that I waited for the train a total of four times just to make sure everytime I moved, I was moving in the right way. I guess it will take more time/patience. Which is unfortunate when you consider that once over, one death/arrest means you'll have to do it all over again. GTA_Loco
Warp Zone is quite a headache really. The Drop methods are more reliable though a bit tricky the first time, especially without a rocket launcher. The invisible path is quite narrow(but not when it appears already) and the train travels a little bit off to the left. If you notice, there's a certain point where the train will make some small curves left and right. This is where I sometimes fall off. If you have a rocket launcher, it's much easier to light up the safe path even without the assistance of the train. Demarest
There's no legitimate way to have the Rocket Launcher at that point, is there? Also, you neglected to mention HOW it's easier with the RL Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/277936-getting-to-staunton-early/#findComment-4237152 Share on other sites
GTA_Loco
Sorry I was kind of rushing my reply. Have visitors Oh yes there is, under the SI/SSV bridge, St. Francis Int'l airport, at the edge of the grassy are near the waters. monkeyman237's guide has a pict of it. With an RL, fire a rocket then release R1, the flying ammo will illuminate the invisible path. Do this repeatedly until you safely reach the subway station. You just need to have lots of ammo on this one. You can do so more conveniently by doing the AWOL Angel ammo glitch than going back several times to the pick up location. If I recall it correctly, a molotov will work too. But I think the RL is way preferable. Demarest
Yeah, I had found that RL when I played through. But you missed my point. If you can GET TO that RL, then you're not in need of a way to get from Portland to SSV. Thanks for clarifying about the illuminated path though. I had noticed when I head west right away that if I get close to the edge, my shadow "lights up" the edge. But thus far, that just seems to lead to the sealed off porter tunnel. For whatever reason, heading S/SE doesn't seem to shadow up the edges the same way. KYLE420
The easiest way i found to be able to get to any of the two locked islands right from the beginning of the game is the Cars Drive ON Water cheat. if you are trying to do it without cheats, I've also gotten all the way to SSV from portland using boats Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/277936-getting-to-staunton-early/#findComment-4242052 Share on other sites
Demarest
But there's no boats in Portland. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/277936-getting-to-staunton-early/#findComment-4242100 Share on other sites
Demarest
Thanks again for the help. I finally got to Staunton. Which means I'll probably be able to play the whole game with >90 HP's and all Rampages for maximum spoiler [EDIT] Also have now made it to SSV no problem Edited May 18, 2007 by Demarest Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/277936-getting-to-staunton-early/#findComment-4244286 Share on other sites
radioman
How does this teleportation thing work, I tried several times and viewed the video sevral times and it still doesn't work. @ Dem, how do you get a boat on the shoreside vale side of stautan early because I tried your trick in one of the boats by Asuka's dock and there is some type of barrier keeping me from shoreside. I want to try this out, because it sounds like a good tip. Good job on the find. Demarest
I've never been able to get the teleportaion to work either. Though I haven't tried it since watching the sequel video that shows running between the parallel of the wall and the surface of the foundation. As for the boat thing, I kind of describe it here (third paragraph). It would probably be easier if I had a video or even pictures, but I don't. Which is just as well because the method listed above is actually faster. Both have a learning curve and therefore frustration factor. But I think the running atop the subway is faster and less prone to destruction. GTA_Loco
There is actually another option for getting to SSV via utilising the "Lift Bridge Glitch". Its by far the easiest way to SSV, but this will work only if you have a previously saved SSV file. Top make it work, simply load a saved SSV file, quit, then load either a Portland or Satunton file and once you visit the bridge, it will be operational as normal, long as you don't reload or restart your game. Additionally, if you made your way to SSV first via gray hell, if the lift bridge happens to be raised or isn't operational, just start the side mission "See The sight Before Your Flight" and the lift bridge will always be lowered. Demarest
Wow. I only learned a couple weeks ago that that trick works for reaching the west island in VC early too. But that required you to use the mission restart Taxi. Still an interesting option. I don't know that I'd call it easier though. At least not if you're still just on Portland. Unless your one of the lucky souls who can make the portal trick work Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/277936-getting-to-staunton-early/#findComment-4247183 Share on other sites
