Hello and welcome to the IV clothing topic.

This place is basically filled with information regarding the clothes that may be available in GTA IV. In addition to that, there are some theories by myself and our forum members.

I for one am a big fan of clothing as it was introduced in San Andreas. I think clothes are a part of our character as we/he progress(ses) through the game. And even in real life clothes are very important. So this topic also serves as a discussion topic for the clothing in IV: Shops, types of garments and other ideas...

This is my first topic on the forums and I’ve tried to give it a good presentation which is easier to browse through. I’ve also tried to get all the information right, but if you find any mistakes please feel free to point them out.

Clothing – What we know

Official information found in the previews of the gaming magazines about clothing.

user posted image

That image simply tells everything. “able to change outfits”, how clearer can it get that that?

Anyhow that clears up that clothes will be a part of GTA IV. It is also pretty much the only official information regarding clothes at the moment.

user posted image

Just wanted to clear this up too, some people may think that you can’t change clothes because of the image found above. Well Dan was simply pointing that you can’t customize your character’s physique (muscles, tattoos…). So yeah, clothing is still in.

Here is a little quoted English translation of some big information regarding clothes found in the OPM Italy:

Naturally, you will be able to personalize his appearance with new clothes and other accessories.

---

Like in San Andreas, the protagonist will be able to change clothes, as he likes. According to an unconfirmed report, changing clothes will also be useful in order to confuse the police when their on your tracks.

Now I wouldn't take that as an official information because well not everything the magazines "write" is true. And besides how does OPM Italy has to be the only magazine to say it clearly that clothing will be like SA... And there is some mention of an "unconfirmed report" in the quote.

But still at least it gives us some hope.

One thing is for sure, in Niko's appartment will be wardrobe. That's good, then he doesn't have to wear those greasy clothes from the trailer. Similar to previous games in some missions the clothes will play a role. That way Niko may sneek into a building or collect information under a false identity.

A wardrobe eh... Sounds kind of similar to the SA wardrobe system found in CJ's house.

user posted image

Looks like Bellic will be able to throw different clothes on...

So yes, again those official artworks show Niko wearing different clothes. And from some other previews we've seen, they pretty much give hints to a similar clothing system as SA. Though the possibilities for the VC system can't yet be completely ruled out...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What to expect

What we should expect regarding clothes in GTA IV.

Well again, nothing much here either yet.

user posted image

But I do want to point out something here. As you can see on the image above, Niko is wearing:

1. A jacket/coat

2. Tracksuit (top)

3. Another jacket/tracksuit (top)

4. A high-necked trouser?

user posted image

Comparing this image to the other one, well you see Niko only has a tracksuit (top) in this one.

This could mean we may be able to wear more than 1 piece of clothing at a time.

His body has a proper centre of gravity as he walks and runs, leaning naturally left and right, jacket flapping with perfect material physics.

(Thanks shaboobala)

Another interesting information in a magazine preview, this means we can expect the new physics to affect the clothing too.

Other than that, I guess we can expect some of the same features from SA. But again no confirmation there, yet.

user posted image

Wear to buy.

The types of shops we should find in GTA IV.

user posted image

Interesting image showing 2 possible brands of clothing that may appear in GTA IV.

The red one says something like “RANCH”.

The green one is clearly “YOGARISHIMA”.

And of course there may be some returning brands from SA. But I personally wouldn't like to see any returning clothing brands.

Some evidence regarding returning brands:

http://files.gtanet.com/images/3289.jpg

The above (new) image shows the guy in the front wearing a Didier Sachs boxer. So there are possibilities of returning old SA clothing brands.

But who are we kidding here… New York is one of the fashion capitals of the world. So I’m expecting a lot of different brands and styles of clothing. We don’t know much about the brands at the moment but we can relate the types of shops there will be with the types of clothes we will find.

Seeing how R* are showing this serious type of image of Niko. I mean basically he won't be the type of guy wearing a bandana or going topless.

Now let's presume that Niko will possibly go on wearing something in these categories: Designer clothing, Formal attire, Leather, Sports, Casual, Outdoor.

Ok. So now that I've limited the types of clothes I can do some research and find some famous brands that offer those types of clothing in NYC

Designer clothing

Formal attire

Leather

Sports, Casual, Outdoor

Chanel

Dolce & Gabbana

Gucci

Zara

Ferragamo

Coach

Zooloo

A B C

Apollo

Broadway Sportswear

Bronx Sportswear

Casual Express Apparel

D & H

Gap

Quicksilver

Pronto

Sneaker Zone

Zic

The list is HUGE, so I can go on and on. But those names seem the most appropriate for R* to mimic in IV. And again just as a reminder, the list here is just to show what we can expect the brands will be like, nothing official just speculation.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What to wear?

The types of clothes we should be able to wear.

Well I've limited the types of clothes that may go with the shops to the ones found below:

Designer Pants

Denim Trousers

Beret

Designer Shoes

Well this at least gives us some idea of what we may come across in IV...

This one’s mine.

Well I basically think you will be able to visit different shops (like in SA but more shops) and buy different clothes. Each shop will have unique clothing like if you go to a Second-Hand clothes shop, you will find cheap clothing which won’t look too good and won’t impress a lot of people. On the other hand if you go to let’s say a Designer clothes shop, you will find expensive and good looking clothes that will attract people attention to you and make them say comments like: “Wow, you really know how to dress.”.

Some shops may have clothing accessories, some may not. A shop can just be dedicated to hats and another to shoes. So yeah a lot of possibilities…

I also mentioned something about multiple pieces of clothes. Well for an example, I go to a Casual clothes shop. First I buy a t-shirt, on top of the t-shirt I buy a shirt (front open) and on top of that I buy a coat. That could be something interesting, because even if they decide not to have a lot of pieces of clothing in GTA IV, we can at least make different mixtures with the pieces we have to make a new outfit everyday…

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Member theories & ideas

I'm gonna go out on a limb and presume that you can make your own sets of clothing. I mean, this way you could have the option of mixing and matching (taking a loooong time to do that) or simply get out in your favourite outfit. Now some may look at this as: "What are you stupid? You're playin' A SHOOTING GAME NOT F*CKIN' BARBIE" -- two words: f*ck off . An indepth clothing customization mode would probably be the next best thing if customization of the body is cut out!

Although, this sounds more like a wishlist kinda thing -- it's a bit logical if you think about it. You buy individual garments, and simply create the Niko outfit of your choice (e.g. the jacket + long neck trouser + ..sweater + some other thing as the topic creator mentioned). Then instead of selecting what you want one by one, you'd have something to quickly change into.

->Kind of similar to mine but I guess I'll add it.

I want it like SA but with adding the features of wearing jewelry, not just one chain and one bracelet i want to be able to wea 3 or 4 chains, bracelet/watch on each wrist, loads of rings (like SR). I also think they shoud add buying gloves aswel. I also want to see more types of clothing per store (if there is this feature).

I don't like the way that you didn't know what a clothing item looked like until you tried it on - it took too much time. A small icon or representation of the item hanging on the rack would give me an idea what it looked like so I didn't have to try everything on.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember: This topic is only here to discuss and kind of guess about what we should expect to be able to wear in GTA IV and what kind of shops there should be. Other than that it contains some basic information about clothing

i'd guess that he can still buy some "g'd up apparel" like what was available in San Andreas to add to the humor level that has been present in all GTA's. It would be funny seein niko dressed in a durag, tall tee and bandana or somethin. After all, it is based on NYC and a lot of people dress that way here.

Im guessing they are going to keep the clothing changes in, but hopefully they will give it a re-vamp.

And hopefully they will get rid of the hunger thin/fat/muscle side of the looks, that was just annoying becoming hungry in the middle of something

I got the impression that it would be more or outfit changes - like it was in VC and LCS. But I haven't seen anything to confirm or deny this or any other theories on it. It would be cool if they decided to go further into it, allowing you to completly customize your characters clothes with 4 or so layers, but who knows. I hope its not the same as San Andreas though, I couldn't ever find anything that actually looked like CJ knew his own size. tounge.gif

When it comes to customizing Niko's appearance, I just hope that Grand Theft Auto IV features a clothing system similar to the one in San Andreas, not the system used in Vice City, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.

But for some reason I have a feeling that it will be the system used in LCS and VCS. confused.gif

They are.

I think that qualifies under "physical changes", and I think they took it out because it would alter the physics of the game.

Of course, that's just my interpretation of the way the Q&A session was answered (look in the box as stated above with Houser's blunt, "no.")

So, according to THIS and THIS alone, I'm also going to have to kiss my beloved haircuts and tattoos goodbye. sad.gif

I think buying cloths and over accessories (sunglasses, jewelry, hats, gloves etc) is a very very important thing for me.

Keeping the haircuts and facial hair is very very important to me aswel. I don't mind about tattoes but i would like that to be in the game.

Anyway all im saying really is keep it like SA but add more choices of clothing and the abiltity to buy jewelry and gloves.

I just hope it's not the style in VC and the others like that.

They are most likely going to improve on SA style, and add more clothing choices (But I could be wrong)

I wanna be able to get a leather jacket like in GTA III, that alone would make me happy <_<

Take a closer look at these. He's actually missing the 3rd garment in the trailer pic. My guess would be a new version of Niko, rather than an idea on clothing customization. In the coming months, Niko will change a lot, you just might not realize it.

We had clothing costumization in both San Andreas and Bully. So i think we`ll defenetly have this in GTA4. Maybe Niko san wear a shirt, sweater and a coat as individual clothing items all at once or one at the time. That would be cool. But i don`t think going to gim will be in GTA4.

Anyway, it shoud be better that SA and Bully.

And one more thing. For Niko`s sake, i hope he can change haircut.

It would look funny, but I don't think it fits with his image that R* are trying to give (serious and sh*t...). Although I'd like to see different types of clothing so it would be a plus if it's present.

...Has it been confirmed that you'll be able to buy individual garments or stick with several outfits a la Vice City?

Nothing has been confirmed yet. All we know at the moment is that you can change outfits. Now how we can change them is still a mystery.

I really like all your ideas ect. Transporter but I am afraid I have a feeling clothing will not be a big part of GTA IV. I am kind of expecting something similar to GTA III, Vice City and so on how you just walked over an icon which had a clothing apparel already set for you. In this I meen that you may not be able to choose the exact shorts you want and then choose the shirt and hat ect. but it chooses the outfit as a whole for you.

I don't know why I think this but I think Rockstar don't want people to dress Niko up how they want and make him look silly but instead Rockstar have a few outfits which suit him and then you choose which one you want. Either that or Rockstar will not include silly cowboy hats and boots this time.

I don't know, it would be about 14 or 15 years since time has passed in San Andreas, and I'm not sure if all the clothing lines in CJ's world might appear in Niko's. I mean, I'm almost positive we'll see Zip, because it was a re-creation of Gap - and Gap is going strong, but as for Binco, SubUrban, and Didler Sachs (sp?) I'm not sure if we'd see those; I think Didler Sachs (sp?) might be a recreation of some Italian clothing company, namely Hugo Boss or Sylvester Italiano, etc. - in that case, I'd love to see it make a return.

And New York City is definitely a fashion guru - I'm thinking about trying to be a model, and New York City would be the ideal place to go; but I'm not sure if fashion is going to play a huge part of Niko's world - as you have mentioned, I don't think he meets that stereotype they're aiming for. Of course, being such a cosmopolitan city, New York City has apparel for all personalities and all needs - Niko will have something, Rockstar will make sure of that.

I could definately see Niko wearing a three-piece, Italian-cut suit, however, and I'm almost positive if we can pull something like that, that's what he'll be wearing for me.
