Russian "Services" sign spotted

Look what I have found

now, the red board on the house in the middle of the screen says "YC/\YFU" which in Russian means services... lol made me laught i havent seen any russian shops in any GTA so far!

T doesn not look like T and H looks like... crap, have a look at the pictre... It definately isn't Youth for those conservatives who thinks this is

the last two letters look like cyrillic PO so it may stand for polygraphy (printing) or pornography. Or it may be the separate word which stands for over or by, like services over the phone or services by a mail.

And here are more Russian shops (screenshot thanks to AleX AciD).

On the first shop it says Îòêðûòû ïîçäíî (pronounced as Atkryty pozna) and translates into English as Open till late. Small letters underneath say 24 hours grocery.

Bottom 2 lines are unreadable, i just wasted some of my time trying to figure it out what they say. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that it says "Ïðîäóêòû èç ðîäíûõ êðà¸â", pronounced as Pradookty is radnyh krayof and translates as Grocery from the places you were born in. Though the last word (places) doesnt look very clear, but Grocery from your... looks clear enough.

 

 

The next shop to the right is Àïòåêà (apteka) which means Chemist or Pharmacy.

Well, it took me a while to post this screen, but here we go.

 

This shot shows more clearly the Pharmacy (red rectangle) sign and also features the Keta shop (green) sign. The second sign actually reads "The unknown masculine noun realted to keta (type of fish)" This means, that most probably it means Keta shop which is masculine in Russian or it may mean Keta lard, Keta eye, Keta , but most possibly shop! The caviar is feminine in Russian, so it does not relate to caviar as you may suggest.

 

Yet more shops in Liberty City with Russian names.

 

First one reads Electrical appliences, mobile phones.

The middle one reads Chandeliers

And the bottom one is too blured, but i think it says Travel/Journey

 

 

Nice find about the ammunition BTW. Added in the first post.

The red word on the box reads Ammunition (credits for finding it go to CthulhuFhtagn)

The box looks too much more like a biscuits box... not an arms box

 

Rightyho, this thing in the middle says "Eyeer" (pronounced Glaznik). Yes, It sound strange, because it is like obsolete word which, I think, is still used by some people deep in the forests in Siberia.

 

 

 

The large letters say BOOKS

 

The small at the bottom Financial services

 

The one on the left, which I cut off by mistake spells the last 4-5 letters of the AGENCY word.

I came in here expecting to see a hint about a beach being in the game, as I thought someone might have spotted the Hove Beach sign below the Trainlines in the screenshots (Brighton and Hove).

This is off topic to the actual thread, but I didn't notice until this thread that so many people have steak in their sigs. Maybe we should make a forum rule where you have to have a steak related thing in your sig somewhere. You can have other stuff, but a steak-related thing has to be in there in some way. Maybe when new members sign up, they automatically have a picture of steak as their sig until they change it. Mods who see users without steak in their sigs can just edit the sig to include steak. Unfortunately I'm not even sure how to change my own sig so someone will ahve to show me.

I don't think the steak thing is that funny. It's kinda like Crazy Frog.

 

 

Regarding the sig: My Controls > Edit Signature. Then you enter e.g. a link to a picture that you have uploaded to Imageshack.us for example. Then you click the Save Changes or whatever it says and you're done. The size limit is 500x150 pixels by the way.

yeah, thats true

 

i always wanted to see the misture of many cultures in GTA, we had some spanish places in previous games, but i really want it to be more diverse, like having germans, russians, chineese.. and they all have to speak their language like they do in real NY. that would make game so interesting, i would spend hours listening to them and spotting the words i know! This board thingy seems like a weak proof of the Hove beach, but maybe we will see more people of different cultural backgrounds!

Yeah, these are definitely Cyrillic letters. I can see how someone who's used to Latin alphabet can think that 'ГИ' looks like 'TH', but it's definitely the former, and the word "УСЛУГИ" is the only one that makes sense there.

 

Also, that "ПО" could be just the whole preposition, which could translate into English as "by" or "on", depending on how it is used. Would be nice to see the other side of that sign.

If these morons looked close enough, they would notice that the poll in front of the sign gets fatter as it goes up... so they do not realize the darkside of the poll is fatter than they think. by chance there is a lighter spot on trhe dark area, causing them to see letters that do not exsist in that location..

i dunno who are you referrig to as "morons"? but that white dot on the black is the bottom bit of the third letter on the picture i posted in first post. its not "o" or "u" as in "youth"

I can see why you'd think that, but if you look very closely, the third letter from the right is the same as the first one from the left, which makes it impossible for it to be a U. Once you see that, you will also notice that the hat on the second letter from the right does not extend to the left. There is a gap, so it's not a 'T'. These are not letters from a Latin alphabet. These are letters from an alphabet foreign to you, which is why you don't see what's so obvious to anyone who is familiar with that alphabet.

 

I can bet you that there is not a single person who knows Cyrillic alphabet who will say that it says "youth".

It definitely says "ÓÑËÓÃÈ", NOT "YOUTH", why so many people not accustomed to the cyrillic alphabet even dispute about that sign.

'cos everyone who knows Russian will say that the word means "Services on/by/of ... (smth. written on the other side)", which makes sense.

And what sense does make "Youth Do"?
