When you realize the baseline price for gas is cheaper everywhere but the US, and the price increases come from the taxes in place, not to mention the superior public transport compared to the US, it's easy for us to bitch.

 

Any job $10+ an hour here will require me to drive at least 30 miles, meaning a 60 mile round-trip. My car gets about 25mpg, so that's nearly $10 a day. If I'm working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, I'm losing $50 a week to gas to make $400 a week. Take out income tax, and any driving I do to visit friends, go to the store, etc.

 

Even if rent is relatively cheap here ($400 a month for a one bedroom house), I'm still spending half my rent in gas, and only a small portion of that gas price is going towards making life better for me.

On the topic about gas, The Japanese have invented some type of conversion kit available for sale that involves using a converter that converts water into hydrogen, and that hydrogen is then used to power electrons that are used to power the engine. Check it out, all you need to run it is a liter of water about every hour...

 

 

 

They even have the conversion kit available for a measly 50 bucks

And the sweet thing is, it would never get more expensive if you used the same container! Though, I don't think a normal car most people have would work with this. I'll give it at least 10 years, at most 50, until this becomes widely popular.

I didn't intend on making this a bitch-fest about gas or anything - I know a lot of people here pay a lot more than in the US, even still - just making an observation. Eight years ago I was still paying $40-50 for an ounce of schwag and a full tank of gas could be had for $20 or less. Ganj runs the same these days but of course gas does not.

 

If I don't want to burn gas I'll ride the bus or rail and let someone else get me around. I like to smoke a fat bowl before getting on and just sitting and chilling out before getting to what I need to. I'm glad to be back in a big city again, that's for sure, and this is one reason for it.

These "work" by using electrolysis to separate the oxygen and hydrogen atoms, which are then burned, and can power any four-stroke engine. The problem is, it requires more energy to separate the atoms than you get by burning them, and the heat caused by burning them makes the process very inefficient. You end up with only 20% of the total energy being used to run the car, the other 80% is just to convert the fuel.

 

In other words, it's much more efficient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly to use a normal electric motor. The idea you can run a car on water alone violates very basic laws of physics. There is always a loss of energy, or another substance being used to create the reaction.

 

Also, the video you linked to is not using the same thing as the scam site you linked to. Details are scarce, but it seems to be just another fuel cell. Water reacting with metal hydride to split into hydrogen/oxygen which then reacts to an electrolyte to produce energy. This is pretty standard stuff, and has been around for a while. The difference is, this company has included an extra step, which is the reaction that splits the water into hydrogen and oxygen. The energy that goes into this reaction is greater than the energy created by running the separated elements through an electrolyte. It would again be more efficient to use the energy applied to the first reaction to run the motor, making it much less efficient than your run of the mill electric motor.

 

Edit: Haha. The car they're using also has a 13Kw battery stock. The cell only outputs 300w of power. If anything, this only (slightly) augments the battery. 90% of the power is still coming from the battery, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're using the stock power to create the energy needed for electrolysis, which would only make it even more inefficient.

I know I'm going to be taken as an idiot for saying this...

 

Where are the steam hybrids? I think that an internal combustion engine easily burns hot enough to heat a boiler, and get a car going on steam. I think it's then further possible to easily keep this boiler pretty toasty, simply by increasing the RPM on the internal combustion engine. The key isn't really to use steam to power the car, but more along the lines of using a smaller internal combustion engine to get some steam hot, and then keep the steam hot with a little help from the engine and the natural mechanics of the car itself. Wheels could easily be converted into electric motors to provide heat, and switching between this and internal combustion, or somehow managing the flow of both could easily be done with modern car computers. You could then use the power from the steam to drive the pistons and the actual powerdrive of the car, while the internal combustion engine simply serves to offer it energy. I"m no scientist for sure, but I bet that a simple 1 cylynder or 2 cylynder engine could do this, and that would greatly reduce emissions and gas costs.

 

 

Or am I just nuts? sh*t maybe I just invented the next form of motor vehicle. Nah, probably not... Hybrids have been doomed from the start for trying to rely on two sources of energy. It's just to hard to do.

 

 

Besides, some french guy already made a car that runs on compressed air. f*ck water.
