ybakker
GUIDE: How to run CheatDevice on3.10 OE, 3.30 OE, or 3.40 OE using Devhook As we all know, CheatDevice is only compatible up to custom firmware 3.03 OE. Some people, like me for instance, will faithfully keep up to date with Dark_Alex’s custom firmware spree. For this reason, I have compiled a walkthrough for people who don’t want to use 3.03 OE but still want CheatDevice functionality on their 3.10 OE, 3.30 OE, or 3.40 OE. I am assuming you know how to extract files from a RAR archive. If not use WinRAR From now on, "ms0:\" refers to the root of the PSP, (e.g. in "X:\") 1. Unpacking the PBP / Extracting the PSARGo get the PBP Unpacker. (Add the ".exe" extension to the downloaded file. For some reason, it was left out.) Install the PBP Unpacker to your PC. Go get the 3.03 official US firmware. Run the PBP Unpacker. Click Open, and open the 3.03 firmware you just downloaded. In the list below, rightclick on "DATA.PSAR" and select "Extract..." and save it in your PSP’s root. 2. Dumping the PSAR into "F0"Go get Devhook .52 + PSAR Dumper. Extract the contents of the RAR. Extract the contents of the "psardump release.rar". Copy the folders "psar_dump2" and "psar_dump2%" to your PSP in "ms0:\PSP\GAME\" or "GAME150\" (depending on which folder the 1.50 kernel is associated with). On your PSP, go to Game, then Memory Stick, and start "PSAR Dumper V2B". Press X to dump the PSAR. (when it's done you'll be brought back to the XMB (cross media bar).)You will now have a folder "F0" in your PSP's root. 3. Installing Devhook and 3.03From the previous RAR "Devhookv0.52PsarDumper.rar" you downloaded, extract the contents of"DH0520000.rar". Go to "MS_ROOT" and copy the folders "dh" and "fbm" to the ROOT of your PSP. From "MS_ROOT", go to "PSP", then "GAME" and copy the folders "%__SCE__DH052" and"__SCE__DH052" to your PSP in "ms0:\PSP\GAME\" or "GAME150\". Move the folder "F0" (that you just dumped in part 2) from the ROOT of your PSP to the folder"ms0:\dh\303\". 4. Setting up the firmware registry/configurationsOn your PSP, Go to the "Recovery mode" of 3.40 OE (by holding R-trigger while coldbooting). Select "Advanced". "Toggle USB (flash1)" On your PC, copy the folder "registry" to a location of your choice on your PC. Exit Recovery Mode (Select "Back" and then "Exit" to exit Recovery mode). Copy the "registry" folder from your PC to your PSP in "ms0:\dh\303\f1\" (make the directory "f1"if it isnt there). 5. Installing CheatDeviceGo get the latest CheatDevice for VCS or LCS. Open the ZIP file you downloaded, and copy "lcscheatdevice.prx" or "vcscheatdevice.prx" to yourPSP in "ms0:\dh\kd\" (make directory "kd" if it isn't there). Go to "ms0:\dh\303\CFG" on your PSP and open "pspbtcnf_game_dh.txt". Type in the following line of text "ms0:/dh/kd/lcscheatdevice.prx" or"ms0:/dh/kd/vcscheatdevice.prx" after the line "/kd/devhook.prx #DEVHOOK". 6. Starting up Devhook and CheatdeviceOn your PSP, go to Game then Memory Stick and start up "DEVHOOK0.52 launcher". Go down to "UMD SELECT", then "File Emulation" to select your GTA ISO, or "UMD Disc" to selectyour GTA UMD. Go down to "FIRMWARE" and select "firmware 3.03(MS or flash+MS)". Then select "START DEVHOOK" and start up the GTA ISO or UMD. Please rate topic. Edited June 15, 2008 by ybakker
Blackadder.
Good job, but you should actually see if you can change the topic title to 3.10 OE-A+ as it works on all firmwares above 3.03 OE-C (IE 3.10 OE-A, 3.30 OE-A and 3.40 OE-A) I think I'll stay with 3.03 OE-C either way Good job though
Dem57
Nice job! if you ask me, I think this should be pined but as everybody knows the VCS part of the forum is dead Anyways, you deserve cookies!!

Freakorama
This is an awesome guide, but i would realy rather go back to 3.03 OE-C it's also a way easier method so i'm just downgrading back
ybakker
i made sure all the files are in the their positions also copied and pasted the stuff in cfg file only problem is i can get to 3.03 but gta wont boot it's LCS on a UMD.... i know something is wrong but what that i don't know...... psp shuts off after i press x onto umd u know like freeeze shut off When you start up DevHook in 3.40 OE, did you select "UMD Disc" under the "UMD SELECT" menu? Secondly, try another UMD disc and see if it loads up. If you already did those, try this: Go to that "pspbtcnf_game_dh.txt" in the folder "ms0:\dh\303\CFG" on your PSP. And delete the line "ms0:/dh/kd/lcscheatdevice.prx" (and the "vcscheatdevice.prx" one too if you have it) that you typed in. Does the GTA LCS UMD load up now? Make sure you correctly type the line "ms0:/dh/kd/lcscheatdevice.prx" with forward slash "/" not backslash "\". Also make sure you copied the PRX file to "ms0:\dh\kd\". @Futurama_Freak1: The only thing that keeps me above 3.03 OE is the Conserve Memory option in the web browser of 3.10. It's really handy and gets rid of most of the "Out of Memory" problems. (and the video thumbnails and 480*272 video in 3.30) Edited April 26, 2007 by ybakker
gtasaif
i deleted the prx for vcs cheat deivce and the line in the cfg as well and made sure the slashes are in the right order it still went into umd did it ding sound and turned off in like 10 secs or so i guess just something little i did wrong might be a problem can u like give me ur cfg file so i can simply replace it? ybakker
Wait wait. First try loading up LCS without any cheatdevice on. Do this by deleting the line you made in the text file in CFG. (simply put, skip PART 5, and see if LCS works normally.) Also tell me if other UMD games load up or not.
File13
i had the same problem as the guy above and when i did delete that line of text the LCS UMD did boot fine, what do you recommend to try now?
File13
nvm got it to work, had the prx in the wrong folder as soon as i moved it it booted ok.

ybakker
Please check the images on the updated 1st post. Hopefully, now it'll be easier to understand (and hopefully will solve any problems). @gtasaif. Quite honestly, I'm becoming quite annoyed that you don't use proper grammar in your posts. Your posts are becoming more and more ambiguous. Please be clear in describing what you did. Now, I'm assuming you deleted the line in the TXT file, and the LCS UMD booted fine. Obviously, the CheatDevice menu won't show up because the text line is gone. The only suggestion I can make is to quadruple check whether you correctly typed in the line in the TXT file and saved it. Also quadruple check whether you have the PRX in the correct location in "X:\dh\kd\lcscheatdevice.prx". Also make sure the slashes are the correct ones. the / slash is used in the TXT file. @File13. Please use the "Edit" button. Don't triple post. Are you sure that you entered the text line in the TXT file? Same as gtasaif, make sure you typed the line correctly. Sorry but you're pretty much screwed... Your goal now is to wait for a way to downgrade to 1.50, and then upgrade to Dark_Alex's Custom Firmware (not an official Sony firmware). Unfortunately, there is no downgrader from 3.40 to 1.50 as of yet. The latest Sony firmware that you are able to downgrade from is 3.03. (3.03 Downgrader from pspupdates.qj.net) Please specify which firmware you mean: 3.40 or 3.40 OE (oh yea btw, to "pin" a topic, or "sticky" on other forums, means that the topic will be "pinned" at the top of the forum section) Edited May 30, 2007 by ybakker

psykotic24
ok but the thread is for cheatdevice on 3.40....thats where my problem is....isnt oe the original equipment... would mean the fw direct from sony right? thats the one i have...im not trying to be an ass...just confused
I_Pfreely
I really dont get what your saying, this thread is for 3.40 Open Edition-A, not the Official SONY Firmware you have. This thread=3.40 oe-a, you=3.40 fw. You cannot install cheatdevice on your current firmware. I dont really know what you mean by "would mean the fw direct from sony right", if you mean about the copy right, im sure its not illegal. Danharibu: It's save to upgrade from 2.81 to 3.03 FW, but the process of of downgrading 3.03 fw to 1.5 fw and the 1.5 fw to the 3.03 oe-c then to 3.40 oe-a could brick your psp. I suggest you ask a professional.
psykotic24
see thats where i was confused was by the oe beside that...i took it to mean original equipment not open edition...that was my misunderstanding..i apologize... now to wait patiently hoping for a downgrader lol
danharibo
hmm, I really want to use cheat Device, but i don't know how to downgrade. Or if thats even safe. Is it possible to Unbrick a psp?
I_Pfreely
Yes its possible to unbrick your psp from a semi brick on an OE version, but if your PSP is fully bricked on a FW, the only way to safely recover it is by sending to SONY. And the only way for you to run cheat device is by either a devhook or OE.
ybakker
hmm, I really want to use cheat Device, but i don't know how to downgrade. Or if thats even safe.Is it possible to Unbrick a psp? It is safe, if you know what you're doing... You should upgrade to 3.03, then downgrade to 1.50, and then install 3.30 OE-A. FIRST However, you need to have an unpatched original GTA:LCS UMD disc. To find out if your LCS UMD is patched or unpatched, check what firmware update is on the UMD, shown in the [Game] menu. If the UMD contains a 2.00 firmware update, it is unpatched. If the UMD contains a 2.60 firmware update, it is patched. If you have an unpatched disc, click here to get the 3.03 firmware, then go here to see how to downgrade to 1.50. Frisk
I have followed everything you have said, and VCS freezes as it boots up.It will load without cheatdevice but with it it just keeps freezing.Any way to fix it?
tobyo1
My problem is I installed everything and I would get to the part where I'm emulating 3.03 (I checked this in the system information) I then would try to load GTA. You know when you start a game on the psp it shows the word "PSP" and plays a funny sound effect and fades out into the game? Well I try to load GTA and it says "PSP" and plays the sound effect but doesn't fade out, then the psp just crashes and turns off Back on 3.40OE-A GTA works fine. Has anyone had this problem? does anyone know what to do? Please do tell me, ever since I saw the cheat device videos on YouTube I've been desperate to run them. ybakker
Heck. I dunno guys. All I can tell you is to make sure all the files are in the right place, and to check that the TXT files are correctly modified...
ybakker
Update: For all of those who are stuck on an official Sony firmwarehigher than 3.03 (that is 3.10, 3.11, 3.30, 3.40, 3.50), buy Lumines! Apparently, "Archaemic" and the "Noobz" team have found a way to exploit the Lumines EU and US versions (in UMD). So buy a copy of Lumines now (not the Japanese version) before Sony releases a patched version. Then just wait for a downgrader to hit 3.50. link to pspupdates.qj.net article Hopefully, there may some light at the end of the tunnel (for those retards who updated).
