sladek
We're all familiar with 1 hour lasting 1 minute, but with this whole realism direction they're heading too, can we still expect it? in SA, a single journey can last all night, which ruins the realism the 24 minute day ruins any patterns and paths NPCs take, they may take all day to drive home what do you think about the 24 minute day, and what do you think R* will do about it? GtaFreak_blingbling
Yeah they should change it to the clock on your system , you know , when it's night at your location it will be night in the game so when you're playing during the night you'll be playing in a city filled with dangerous people walking out of dark alleys . And when It's daylight where you live, it'll be daylight in GtaIV and the sun goes down allmost at the same time , and then you have seasons right So when it's winter it'll snow and stuff and when it's summer the sun will stay longer and the moon in the sky will dissapear really fast like in real life. And then you have people that change right ? So when you played the game for 8 years and you saw a little girl of 14 on the street and you know where she lives in NYC ( euh LC) and you go visit her 8 years later and you make love to her because she likes you and she is 22 now you know ... Ok maybe that's allready a bit tomuch to ask from Rockstar , but maybe not huh. Who would like to see the game time go as fast or as slow as real life , so one minute in the game is one minute in real life ... Hmmmm cookie tastes nice This is crazy ! ... Crazy ? THIS IS GTA IV !!!!!!!!!!!!! GtaFreak_blingbling
I think I found out that the 24 minute system is taken from Shenmue (the greatest game of all time). Actually I'd say it's the best game of it's time , not really best game ever ... Because you count everygame made public and you just go and state that Shenmue is the best between al of em , I'd say that GTA Vice City is the best pony farming FUN game , I got bored of San Andreas quicker than Vice City , Sorry y'all EDIT: ok I ment to say Vice City is the best pony farming FUN game I'll just leave the misstype in it because it's funny Edited April 25, 2007 by GtaFreak_blingbling Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/276089-1-day-24-minutes/#findComment-4204463 Share on other sites

Transporter™
Well according to my GTA TIME FORMULA I can tell that: t = day/night ∞ (1+ 1:d/n) so d²∫n² = √t² Meaning that there are high chances that the 24m = 1h formula will be used once again. ...And there will be steak. No but seriously, I hope they make it 2x longer than before. White Flight
As I've said in earlier day cycle threads, a 48 or 60 minute day would've been the best. victim225
The whole idea for having GTA IV as the same time as where you live would not work. If Rockstar are making such a huge emphasis on this day/night transition it would be useless. Seeing as you actually play video games a lot more during the day time. I say bring on 5 seconds = 1 minute. 2 hours days would be nice. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/276089-1-day-24-minutes/#findComment-4204555 Share on other sites
Meat puppet
I think one hour = one day would be kinda appropiate. That way the day would be longer but at least one day would still usually pass every time you play the game. MrHeint
The game time should evolve much slower IMO. You can pass 6 hrs by saving in GTA III series. If the game time goes slower it would give more realism, and would allow players to enjoy certain parts of the day cycle. So if it's fun to sneak around at night, we would have more time than say 10 minutes. And in Oblivion you can simply wait somewhere to pass onto a desired time. Maybe will implement this single player RPG element so players won't be waiting around for 5pm game time to start a certain mission. It would be cool if you could wait (pass time) in certain areas, like a strip club, bar, safe house, or simply sleep on a bench like a bum. Helsinki
I almost didn't post, because this has been discussed so many times, but what the hell... I want to experience a GTA rush hour, and it won't happen, if it takes like two minutes real time. The traffic jams would have to appear really fast and then - snap! - the cars would be gone again. Also, sometimes you want to do certain things in the night, for instance, and the dawn will come simply too quickly. I've previously suggested that during the "most interesting" parts of the day (the aforementioned rush hours, for instance; maybe late evening/midnight, too, when people go to night clubs etc.), time should go more slowly. You wouldn't necessarily even notice it, cause it'd be like 1 game minute = 3 seconds real life instead of 2 or 1. I think that'd be a good compromise: a day in the game wouldn't last forever, but you'd still get things done. mardybum
The question of time would be answered based on the size of Liberty City in GTA4. In San Andreas, you could go from one end of Los Santos to the other in 90 seconds but if you see it in real time, a one and a half hour drive from one end of LA to the other seems reasonable. And based on the GI interview, it will be roughly the size of San Andreas so i wouldn't expect any changes.......... Nabbesnabb
One in game day was 24 hours in Mafia. Mafia was made by Rockstar. I liked Mafia. I hope they have same time system in GTA IV. Or make options or cheats for it. Was kinda lame to be waiting at a red light for half an in game hour, seeing the sun going down behind the mountains in the previous games, or using 3 hours to change clothes. Also was kinda confusing when you take a mission and the guy says "You got FIVE minutes!" and I'm like "Ok.. by that you mean 5 seconds or 5 hours?" EDIT: Mafia was NOT made my Rockstar afterall btw. -.- My memory is playing tricks on me. GycuBrun
What are you talking about?R* didn`t made any game called Mafia, LA Noir is gonna be set in 1940s with a mafia theme but they never made a game called MAfia, only GTA had a Mafia theme in 3 and VC...IF you are talking about Mafia-The Cty Of Lost Heaven, R* didn`t made that game...Illusion Softworks did... Johnny Burbank
I don't think a clock will be a prominent part of the game, at least not in the HUD. I think they will go more for the FN3 equivalent thing where time and weather are told to you more by your surroundings than by a meter/clock on a HUD. But whatever the case, I think a day will have to be longer than 24 minutes b/c they will want you to have a more realistic but still fun experience in the game. I think they will slow the clock considerably to maybe 5'' = 1' or 2 hours = 1 day. This way you can browse the streets for a few minutes in the same level of sunlight/darkness, will lead to more realistic interactions with peds, etc. Bottom line: the day cycle will be longer than 1" = 1'. Rashon. Mister V
Somehow I think that won't change much. In the Reiner Q&A, he said the demo was something like 15 (or 18?) minutes long, and he saw times of the day changing considerably. Of course, this could've been broad daylight to the darkest hours, but I think they'll keep that old theme. Digital_Utopia
http://www.digitalutopia.org/gta4time1.gif take a look at that...this gif is made from the trailer...re encoded at 1 fps. Keeping in mind that in the trailer, the clock on the ticker went by at a rate of 1 minute per frame...so taking the video at 1 fps makes it 1 minute = 1 second. As you can see, taking into account the jerkiness that the actual speed is pretty accurate. this leads me to believe that it's going to be 1 minute of real time = 1 hour of game time, so yeah 24 minutes in a day looks like its still going to be there Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/276089-1-day-24-minutes/#findComment-4204959 Share on other sites

Winternuce
My opinion for this topic is that there should be longer days, about three to four hours in real time. Then there could be longer day and night time (like those are in real life). Player would have more time to do daily and night task. I think that it can also give dignity for lights and shadows. So "sleeping" in savehouses would come more needful. It would be cool that you could set alarm in cellphone, when you want to awake or "sleep" random time. It would be nice that there would be tire-meter (ok, "play SIM !!", but still). Tireness could effect your driving or aiming. So we came to this, why drugs and pills would be needed. (I know, this goes way too far from topic ) I thing that longer day-cycle would give better rythm to players. In previously GTA's there have not been meaning for which day-time it have been. But still, I know R* will keep the old time-system, although they would have much realistic effect with these little spices. In other hand, appraising the interviews of Dan Houser, he have said that there would be different traffic in different times in a day. That could mean that there would be longer day-cycle than before (maybe). What you guys and girls think? morsolo
Ah, I didn't like the 24 minute thing... In San Andreas, you could drive from one end of a STATE to the other in about 4 hours game time ( = Aprox. 4 Real Mins...) I think they should SCALE the clock to realism... I.E: Make the game time actuate...Time how long it takes to dirve (in real life) from one end of NY to the other, then scale it into the game to represent the same time... It would work well with their "Realism" hopes... Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/276089-1-day-24-minutes/#findComment-4233656 Share on other sites
swimfan3210
maybe the clock would just move slower, like 2 seconds=1 minute in the game, unlike 1 second=1 minute in the game, that way it would be 48 minutes for a day, not that bad huh?
