Fast Driver
Hi guys. A friend of mine is making an A-Team Van mod, it has a sliding side door on too, but it's just for show. We thought of something like making a sliding door animation for the side door. Is there a possible way to do this? If it is, we'll also set the backseats of the van as a car, because normally peds use the backdoors and sit facing the sidewalls of the van. Together with this sliding side door, they'll also sit facing forwards just like the driver and the passenger in the front seat. Can you help me in this please? 92F
I don't think sliding door animations are possible. Because the door sits on an axis/dummy, it has to have a pivot point. The only movement it can simulate is scissor, suicide and the normal opening door function. mrmunky
Hi folks. It's me making the van, as some of you may remember from a post a LONG time ago... Anyway, since this thread has been started here about it I might as well add my questions on since I didn't really know where they should go (kind of vehicles/misc/scripting crossover)... I'd actually already come to the same conclusion about a proper sliding door anim being impossible because of the dummy axis rotation mechanism. I've actually already used the lambo doors trick for the back doors to get the (slightly angled) hinges to actually line up so they look like they work (although this will probably be the least noticeable use of the lambo doors trick ever), so I know how that works and like you say, it's no use for this. I currently have the sliding door set as rf_wing. When it's _ok, it's set in the closed position, but I've made rf_wing_dam as an open door so if it takes a hit, it appears to open. That works fine and looks good in game. I was wondering was if there was any way (maybe through a SCM hook, or some other scripting trick which I know nothing about) to set it up so that you could press a key to switch the damage state of a single part (in this case rf_wing) from _ok to _dam, thereby effectively allowing me to open and close the sliding door at will. I know there would be no animation and it would just flick from one state to the other, but it seemed like it would be a pretty neat solution, if it was indeed possible. The rear seat passengers facing forwards in a van issue is another thing altogether; I think the only way to get it working correctly, while still having the rear van doors swinging and opening as intended, is by editing the corresponding anuimation for rear seat passengers entering the van. Unfortunately, I'm a ZM2 man and it was as much as I could manage to import the anims and view them to confirm my suspicions in 3ds Max. As far as I can tell, what is needed is for the animations for rear seat passengers entering a van to be changed so that they both end up at the same distance along the z axis of the vehicle and both end up facing the same way (forwards) instead of intowards the middle of the van. Anyone know if that would work before I waste days trying to work out how to animate in 3ds Max? epoxi
The door animations in SA only use pivots, and I doubt R* would have incorporated a possibility of sliding doors since the game is set in 1992, and sliding doors only came on to the scene after around 1995. Good luck though. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/275827-sliding-door-animation/#findComment-4222584 Share on other sites
l3mmy
Sliding Doors Are Possible, But Not on Cars. With a Normal door, you can Script so if the Player is in an Area, the Door Moves to the Side, if he Leaves the Area, it Closes, (same Technique use on Gta illegal Sectors with the Elevator But then again, it's a Vehicle so this is No use Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/275827-sliding-door-animation/#findComment-4222607 Share on other sites

Good luck though. Slightly off topic but I would like to point out that the dodge caravan has had sliding doors since 1984 and full size vans have had them since the early 70's. dertyjerzian
Just a suggestion Is there a flag that makes the tow truck, baggage cart, etc etc able to move their extras? Could this be used in your van door? I know it wouldn't allow you to fully realize your ambition, but perhaps the anim is enough? mrmunky
Thanks for the replies. Seems someone else has asked the same question about toggling ok>dam>ok status with a hotkey in a later post. Does anyone know if that is possible? It seems from the replies it is more likely than to actually fudge together a proper animation... dertyjerzian, do you mean the towing arm on the towtruck? It just seems to rotate, so that isn't any good. Machinima was the main thing I had in mind for all this. I never actually used the option to get gang members to ride with me in the game because they only got in the way and ended up getting killed without really helping me, so I'd never normally see the door opening ayway... epoxi, I already said I'm fully aware of the pivot door limitation, and I don't know if you're familiar with the show, but the A-Team van had a sliding door in 1983, in common with millions of other vans around the world. Where on earth did you come up with the idea they weren't around prior to 1995? Are you confusing sliding doors with lamborghini style 'scissor' doors? I guess they really became popular on the car modding scene in the late 90's when DIY kits became available, but the Countach had them in 1974 (that effect is possible in GTA, and I already used it on the van)...
