finally get speedometer?

Recommended Posts

I have no use for a speedometer, i don't wanna know how fast i'm going, all i need is to think "am i getting away from the cops?" *looks in the mirror* "yes they are too slow" and then i know that i have the speed i want, some people might want this, but some people might not want this, so there should be a:

Speedometer on "yes" "no" option

I have always wanted a speedometer in GTA, hopefully this is the game. I also hope that there could be something like a button you could press if you want to limit your speed for people who like cruising around town and driving responsibly wink.gif or maybe on the 360 you can use the trigger to control your acceleration as an alternate control scheme which would make keeping a constant speed easier.

If they include a speedometer then theres the chance that they';d include speeding offences, which i dont want to be worrying about while playing. I dont want to constantly check that i'm doing under 30 (or whatever the limit is there) to make sure a cop soesn't see me or anything

If they wanted to add a speedometer in the car (first-person view) then I wouldn't mind. But an onscreen one? No thanks.

If you can play and/or drive in first person I'd be so happy, that'd make the game so realistic, like too actually be able to see the steering wheel or see a gun in your hands.

what is the speedometer was transparent with the map HUB? So you can see the digits by looking there?

I don't think that the radar needs to be turned into a swiss knife. R* already tried combining it with the attitude indicator for flight, and I don't think result was any good. I'd rather have a little bit more of my screen taken up, but have a real instrument.

Oh god, not this again... it's not spam, I'm agreeing with him.

I can't see how that's any more invalid a post than "Yeah, that would be awesome."

He was made a moderator of this forum for a reason.

@topic: I would love a speedo, but I think one of the primary reasons it was left out in previous versions was the lack of realism, civilian cars drive considerably slow, and to be below or on realistic speed limits (don't know what it is in New York or Miami, LA, SF and LV) the speeds shown would be out of proportion somewhat.

I think you might be just used to driving very fast in these types of games. Traffic seems to move at a decent rate, especially for urban setting.

And either way, I would expect that entire GTA IV would be "to scale", with cars driving at appropriate speeds, whatever they may be, so speedometer would work rather well.

I'd prefer a driver's view from the car, with dashboard etc. (like they had in Need For Speed II) it makes the game a lot more realistic; and gives us more opportunities to customize the car.

It would be awesome if there was a speedometer in GTA4. i would also like it if you sped too much you would get the police after you. (only if a cop see's you of coarse).

Ergh why, that's no fun. Play the Getaway. tounge.gif

I agree with that, but I think R* can be careful with it and it will work out just fine.

If it was an option and you wouldnt get pulled over for speeding, I dont see any downsides to having it.

Do you??

On the subject of cars, how about having the option of the car being manual for the player, so you have to change gear and things? I would hate it to be honest, it probably wont be in, and if it was it would be optional. Like for ps3 prssing r1 to shift up and r2 t shift down? Just a thought. Few more things, how about if youre pulling the handbrake, you could see Niko pressing the handbrake down? Also When youre car leaves tire marks, they should stay on the pavemet for a long time.

Though its not needed, I think it would be cool to have one. It can be really useful when you're trying to pull off certain stunts that are speed sensetive (and some of those stunts are real good for outrunning the police). I do recall that some of the modders have made one for GTA III for PC if I am not mistaken.

R2 will almost certainly be reserved for accelerator. L2 will probably become break/reverse. It's different from past GTAs, but it would make most sense with PS3's trigger-like R2/L2 buttons. L1/R1 will probably be used as look left/right buttons, and the hand break will be moved to either square or X. If there will be a gear shift option, it will have to go on the D-pad.

I think it should just have numbers like at the side or something, and not a full speedometer.

I also think it should be optional.

That's a good idea. I wish there was a way that we could compile a list of completely feasible (not steak) additions to the game that we, the series' biggest fans, want, and send an "official petition" to Rockstar. Speedometer, dashboard view, banks, whatever. They would probably listen to us. cookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gif

Probably not.

I can't imagine all the junk mail R* has coming in it's direction in the form of suggestions. But, like pretty much all major companies, I'll bet quite a bit they have a "No Suggestions" policy to avoid lawsuits from people wanting royalties or to be included in the credits or some stupid stuff like that.

However, I'd like a speedometer as GTA doesn't have much in the "sense of speed" department. It's near impossible to guess the in-game car speed as I found when I checked in LCS with the Cheatdevice. I guess it could be an option at the pause menu, as well as the speedo style: Old-style needle and number, modern backlit analog, and that hideous 80's digital readout.

However, in the in-car view (which I'm also hoping for), the speedo would go with the car's type regardless of choice.

Shouldn't be that hard to do. If the cars are any thing like Test Drive Unlimited, it will be outstanding. I have TDU for PC and there are 5 or 6 different camera views, and each car is incredibly detailed inside and out.

I'm sure the speedo can't be that hard to do. I remember playing the 1st Test Drive on PC in the late 80's. There was a Porsche 911, Lambo Countach, Ferrari Testarossa, and Corvette. That's it! BUT, even back then each car had it's own unique SPEEDO, ENGINE SOUND, INTERIOR, and HANDLING AND DRIVING CHARACTERISTICS (very simple, but still). I know, it's a DRIVING GAME and GTA4 will have much more complexity to it (you can't get out of your car in TDU, can't shoot anything, and can't run people over). But, from looking at the trailer, I can imagine how similar it COULD be. That's a good thing.

It's ok, but not needed, Rockstar may add graphical things, but in some respects cleaning up the OSD is a nice idea to add to the realism and redesign, but Dan Houser also said the game will retain it's arcade feel, so it won't be everything for the sake of realism.

I think if you had a view inside the car, as the older TestDrive games or NFS, then it would be obviously there

Hey, I owned a 1984 Eldorado with the digital guage set, and my Deville from 88 has a mixture of digital and analog, nothing too ugly about it to me. I liked the futuristic take in an older styled car. My dad had the Lincoln Continental Mark 7 (company car) IIRC, also with digital dash speed

And I had or have the Apple ][ version! Talk about the evolution progression!!
