The Cellphone

So whats up everybody time for some speculation about the cellphone.

 

So as we all now we (Bellic) will have an usable cellphone on GTA IV. This is the description the GI article has for it:

 

"Bellic then pulls out his cellphone which has options for phone book, Messages, Organizer and Camera on it's LCD screen. He selects phone book, and he is then presented with another set of options: City Contact, Docks Friend, and Cab Contact. After a brief conversation he informs the receiver to meet him at the docks."

 

Now here's a rundown on the features (the ones we know and some for speculation):

 

UPDATE 04/27/2007: New Info from the OPM Article/Interview, its states that the mobile phones will be used to set up deals and arranging ambushes, we still don't how exactly will this work out.

 

Phone book:

 

This is obviously where we will have our contacts and maybe some civil services.(Police, Ambulance, Etc.)

 

Since there are three contacts under this option (Dock, City, Cab), it's obvious this "phone book" will play a major roll in the GTA IV storyline. We shall unlock numerous "contacts" throughout the story. And to initiate certain missions we simply call and meet at a certain location. After we finish a series of missions, say the "Cab" contact, maybe we can call Roman and utilize him in some way. Maybe you can meet up with Roman and he'll do the tag-along $h!t, just like the gang members in GTA SA

 

But the phone book, we might expect, will be useful in other areas as well. Obviously we will be able to call girls, or girlfriends, in GTA IV. So to enable a date we call some girl, and start the activity.

 

Also this could entitle new options like corrupt lawyers, bankers, politicians, assassins, etc... So to ride yourself of "heat" we would simply meet our lawyer. To deposit dirty money we call our banker.

 

As the article implies it says that under phone book there are these options:

 

-City Contact

 

Self-explanatory(Sp?), some friend or employer you have in the city.

 

-Docks Contact

 

Again, some friend or employer you have on the docks.

 

-Cab Contact

 

This one maybe Roman, because the article says he has a taxi depot or maybe an option to call a taxi for a ride.

 

These are the other options:

 

Messages:

 

Maybe text messages, maybe voice messages if you don't feel like answering your phone. Also maybe there will be messages after turning the game on, to remind you what's happening.

 

If there are voice messages, you will obviously get some like this:

 

"Great job, head over to my office for your payment."

 

or

 

"There is this new guy who hasn't been paying his debts, pay him a little visit."

 

and finally there's the last option:

 

Organizer:

 

Maybe here is where we will have objectives for the mission we are doing. Also maybe this could be a calendar, to see the which day it is, the month, and maybe the season (if they are in the game), and it would track all meetings, missions, dates, etc....

 

Another reason for an organizer would be simple, organize your business, your employees, gang members, assets, map... Strategic, territorial, planning.

 

Camera

 

Guess, its a camera and we will be able to take pictures (no sh*t), maybe zoom on them, maybe even edit the picture like putting it on negative and putting it on black and white, another feature could be videos, nothing much like one or two minutes of video and you can save it and send it to your friends online.

So I guess thats it for now, will update when we now about new features and their functions.

when i read that part in GI i was just amazed, i mean since i started playing GTA i wanted taxis to be realistic and take you where you wanted... the objectives section still troubles me

IMO this is a must. Being able to call taxis was awesome in SR and Ihave always wanted this in GTA .. With that said.. what abut when we get enough money and are the big hot..Why not have limo drivers too...Pease don't flame me. It's just that I like to take it easy every now and again and don't want to drive at all. If I am worth millions if not a billions of dollars.. Why can't I ride in a limo? LoL ok I'm out.

Yeah, you most likely will not be able to choose contacts you want to have on your phones, only the important ones in the storyline.

It'll be nice always having a camera with you. Hopefully it will give you a set of choices as to what the purpose of the call you're making is.

Again, very Scarface-ish and Saint's Row-ish. The cellphone is definitely one of the few features of the GTA series that needed a total rehaul and we've got that coming to us. I'm hoping we get things like contacting our bodyguards, getting people to do dirty work for us, calling cabs/limos, calling escort services (), getting the low down on the city, finding out how to get to certain locations -- A WHOLE LOTTA THINGS CAN BE DONE!

Well, Vice City had a cellphone too. But none of the GTA cellphones were as indepth as Scarface or Saints Row.

What if there was a contact on the phone for a high ranking dirty cop who can call off a search for you if your wanted level goes up?

 

It'd be like a mobile bribe. Level goes up, you wire the guy some cash, level goes down.

I dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but i think the cell phone should double as a vehicle.

 

 

Honestly the possibilities are endless.

 

 

But anyways, as pointless as this idea is, it might be kinda cool to use tracks from the game and use them as your ringtone, or maybe even tracks from your hd.

 

Plus, maybe you can call the police and make them show up where you are, itd be interesting at the least. Get a star for making a false report? lol.

 

And this is kind of a longshot, but being able to take video with it and save to your hd would be cool too.

they came up with a great idea. i never heard of it used in the gta clones. [i don't play them - well i have True Crime streets of l.a. and mercernaries and after that i learned my lesson and steered clear of clones, though if i had an xbox 360 i would like to try crackdown or saint's row but i'm not going to get an xbox 360 until GTA IV day...]
