Is anyone still having trouble?

If so, i just thought i would let you guys know of a freeware problem that is required to make the game move fast , and gets rid of any frame rate skipping, meaning make the game move at near 60fps, um depending on how high you have your game resolution .

Anyone who has a INTEL chip, go here and download this file ASAP and then run GTA and you see what i am talking about.

For Windows 98, Windows 98 Se, and Me users

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Intel_Applicatio...rator_d835.html

Intel Graphics Accelerator Driver for Vista 15.2.3

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5599

They have graphic accelerators for windows 2000 and xp too, just go to google and search them.

Have fun playing GTA with no more skipping icon14.gif With using this thing, believe me i dont have to worry about trying to figure out how to make the game run faster, this solves the problem big time.

The frame limiter exists for a reason - 60 FPS is way too fast. All gameplay e.g. pedestrians, vehicles, etc. would be moving at twice their normal speed thus rendering the game rather difficult to play.

I'm with Athlon 1600+ and video FX5500 and the video appears slow in some areas when I have turn on the frame limiter! But if I turn it off the textures load too slow! Is there any way to fix that! I want to play withowt frame skipping and video cutting sad.gif

ThunderPower

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

1 GB RAM

SAPPHIRE Radeon X1800GTO

No frame limiter

150+ FPS

The game is not too fast, not double speed. It's fine. confused.gif Even at 60 FPS, it's fine. In fact, 30 FPS is a little sluggish to me.

There might be a graphic accelerators for different motherboards, just look around and ask questions. I only know of some for intel. Read on what it does to your computer:

Intel® Application Accelerator Help

Overview

The Intel® Application Accelerator is a desktop-based software package designed specifically to increase the performance of applications and computer systems running Intel® Pentium® III or Pentium® 4 processor. This is achieved by use of several methods:

1. Intel® Application Accelerator Driver - This technology increases the performance of the Input/Output subsystem transfer rate, greatly enhancing the system speed.

2. Intel® Advanced Pre-Fetch Module - With this technology, available for Pentium® 4 processor-based systems running Microsoft* Windows* 2000 Professional and Windows XP only, an overall additional performance enhancement is realized for Windows 2000 and Windows XP - based applications.

Software installation is flexible and fully automated for Microsoft* Windows* 98, Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Windows NT* 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP Home Edition and Professional operating systems.

GTA III or Vice city doesnt move at 60fps, but moves near it, and there is no more frame skipping.

I went into google and type in AMD Athlon Application Accelerator and i couldnt find nothing. My advice, call AMD and ask them if there is something similar to the intel application accelerator and see what they see.

Most times when you call tech support at any gaming company, they seem clueless, so good luck lol.

OR

What you could do, when you get the extra money, buy a used or cheap or new cheap computer and buy one with a intel chip and you set too go. I'm buying myself a gaming xp computer in a few months. So you know, when you get the money , spend cheap and bring home something great.

OK! It looks that I have to buy myself a new procesor! But I just want to know how to overclock my procesor?

You guys are barking up the wrong tree. The game was inefficiently designed and prone to lag even with hefty hardware. You're better off tweaking the game than turning to 3rd party apps meant to provide general assistance.

What "3rd party apps" are you talking about?

The accelerators linked to in the opening post...

Its not 3rd party, not if you have a intel chip which i do. So running the hardware accelerator application inproves the speed and i can run the game near 60fps. It only slows down if i run the game at 1024x768 32bit colors, only because i am running my radeon 7000 64MB card on it. I havent tested my radeon 9250 256MB yet.

If you are turning to non-GTA3 software to improve your GTA3, that's 3rd party. Also, you should never use 32 bit. It's near four times the strain with no real gain.

When I set the video in 16 bits I dont have problems, but there is a difference between 16 and 32 !

Either my old GeForce 6150 LE was very inefficient, or 32 bit just ran better on that card.

Call it 3rd party all you want, but from what i can see, its a useful/required 3rdparty program that is required to boost performance for intel chips. So its kinda of a good thing, you make it sound like its a bad thing or something haha.

Anyway, you right about that 32bit issue. But playing in 32bit colors sure looks alot more smooth. Now i can turn up the settings in my ATI Contorl panel and then run the game at 1024x768 16bit colors and get good results, so it kinda goes both ways. Even tho using the control panel settings, instead of the 32bit color is more useful.

Peace cool.gif

I most certainly did not. You created a topic in a GTA forum about software that will make your computer IN GENERAL run faster. That's not bad; It's just in the wrong section.

Furthermore, my original point was that the GTA3 EXE is inefficient. All the tweaking in the world isn't going to change that.

If you're so stoked that a chipset optimizer boosts performance, I'm not at all sure why you'd turn your nose up at a much more direct approach. The human eye cannot even differentiate colors to 16 bit depth. Plus, each bit means to the power of two. So 32 bit doesn't contain twice the information of 16 bit, but far more than that. It's additional processing for a yield you cannot detect. These are facts.

I for one, can tell the difference between 16 and 32 bits (not in GTA3 though, i'm pretty sure the textures are 16 bit anyway) it's most prominent in places where colours fade from one to another with 32 bit the fade will look gradual but with 16 the fade will kind of have steps in it.

  • 2 weeks later...

The bit depht is how many bits are in one pixel. Example: 8bit color - 8 bit per pixel; 32bit color - 32bits per pixel! It's not true that the human eye can't make differences between 16 and 32 bit color, Demarest! If this is a true it looks like I am a human with ultra-eyesight ! biggrin.gif

So! I posted a long time before in this topic about my problem, but I still can fix it!

I used a lot of optimizing software, but nothing helped me! I'm with AMD Athlon, so the Intel accelerators can't help me! Damn, I'm so desperate!

Judging by your post in the other thread, maybe if you bought the game, it would work.

I have a problem. Every time I click the mouse the game goes down and I go back to my desktop. its really annoying and costed me alot of missions. I have no other programs running and it still does this.

I have a cordless logitech keyboard and mouse if it helps.

Hey Dem, look who's talking - I remember you telling me that you bought the PS2 version, then I think you said you either downloaded the PC version or borrowed it from a friend - both mean that you did not pay for the PC version. So before you start criticizing people for not buying the game, look at yourself.

I also did this, so...I shouldn't be talking either. But it irks me to see things like that.

Are your analytical skills up to par? Who is the person that is both A) stating they have the pirated game and B) wondering why it doesn't work? Hint: It's not me.

So let's look who's talking as you requested...

maybe if you bought the game, it would work.
The fact that maybe preceeds the statement means it cannot be disproven. Nevertheless, the supposition contained within is factual.

This forum is for troubleshooting GTAIII. Not whatever it is that you have.
Fact once again. So why don't you speak on what you're REALLY concerned about instead of committing libel, which is both criminal and actionable in itself?

92: I dont know how to help on with AMD issues, but i'm gussing if you have a video card that has 256MB and if you have 512megs of ram, you shouldnt have any trouble running the game.

Also, i downloaded GTA3 first before i bought it, to test it out and believe me, downloaded copies has nothing to do with anything, unless the files are missing. But if all the files are there, the problem is not with the downloaded game.
