I think the airstrip clue was a bit misleading. More clues, but I'm changing the airstrip clue to be fairer.

 

- I am the cause of many crashes.

- Many technical issues are related to me.

- I can be found in two of the three "islands".

- If you are not a coward, you are likely to encounter me in one of the airstrip missions.

- I am nearly always found in groups.

- I resemble the Pyramid Building of San Fierro, but I am much smaller and I have protrusions.

NOE, the 'cowards' tend to go via the oceans, whereas the 'brave' just go straight through the badlands.

Okay, okay, let's think. If I remember correctly there is an old rusty axe in a tree stump. You could use it as a weapon but it's stuck so you can't. No use because it's rusty. Enchantment? Axe in a tree stump is similar to the sword in the stone from Celtic mythology.
