San Andreas on Windows Vista

Recommended Posts

GTA3 & SA work on Vista without compatibility tab. Make sure you run as administrator if using a game controller.

I had a few problems with SA on Vista, such as crashing, and game lagging a little (with 8800GT, 2gb RAM, 2.4ghz monocle.gif), setting in XP Compatibilty mode helped. I run as admin too and that helps too, reduces crashes, but it would still crash, no mods, etc, and I created another partition and installed XP, Tested SA On XP, Worked fine.

Also I'd recommend disabling User Account Control if you get the crash to desktop at main menu.

The only problem with Vista, You can't play online. I was a big fan of SA-MP when i had Windows XP Home Edition. But have you tried to play online with Vista? For me, the game was starting with two white screens and it was the normal game. It was on the original menu... dontgetit.gif

For those that have problems in Windows Vista, disable the user account control in Control Panel>Users. Having it enabled will cause a lot of crashes sometimes, and the crash to desktop when you get to the menu.

And right click gta_sa.exe, click properties, click the Compatibilty tab, and choose Windows XP Service Pack 2. Now click apply then ok.

If you are having a lot of crashes, right click gta_sa.exe, click properties, click one of the tabs (cannot remember which one), and untick the box that says "Run as Admin". Sometimes having that ticked will cause crashes.

Also make sure your video card drivers are all up to date, this is very important in Vista, but not really as important in XP.

And crashes seem to mostly happen with an intergrated (On-board video card). You should have a real graphics card (I suggest nvidia).

And San Andreas seemed to be demanding, and is even more on Vista (I suppose because Vista has more processes)

My suggested minimum specs for SA In XP To work well is:

512mb RAM

64mb video card (nvidia or ATI, But not an on-board ATI)

1.5ghz CPU

But in Vista

1gb RAM, 2GB reccomended

1.5ghz CPU

128mb video card minimum (nvidia, or ATI), With all drivers up to date, and 256mb reccomended with all up to date drivers.

It works fine on my new laptop I got it for and haven't had no problems at all and it runs great on the config I have on my XPS M1330:

120gig HD

1gig of 667mhz ram

2.0ghz Core 2 Duo

Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS 128MB Graphics Card smile.gif

Also, I tested it on my brother's PC, And it works fine too, specs:

Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT 256mb

AMD Athlon 6000+ 3.0Ghz

1.5gb DDR2 RAM

Windows Vista Ultimate

120gig HD

1gig of 667mhz ram

2.0ghz Core 2 Duo

Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS 128MB Graphics Card

So no crashes? I had too many crashes with only 1GB Of RAM, When I upped it to 2GB I had crashes still, but not as many.

My PC That had too many crashes with 1gb, I downgraded it to XP, And SA No longer crashes. I would try it out on Vista, but I just simply refuse to install that OS Because it lags like hell on mine. With 2gb ddr2 RAM 667mhz, SATA 7200RPM 500GB, Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz, and a 8800 GT. Runs like junk.

No. Problem.

San Andreas runs fine on my system. Generally I have experienced programs to install faster and to open up faster, however 3D performance, when tested (using 3DMark) is exactly the same but in game it could be slightly less. It's hard to tell, the difference is that small.

In the control panel is a subcategory administrative tools where you'll find the Computer Manager. Under Services and Applications you'll find Services, allowing you to stop Vista from running unused services like.

In the Start-menu under all programs, accesoires you'll find Run. Use it to run msconfig, allowing you some more switching-off of uselessnesses.

I am not responsible for whatever you do to your system.

If you have choice, Keep using XP SP2 until Vista has grown up a bit, cause it's a teenager now.

I haven't had any problems once so ever and My vista runs extremely well on my xps laptop and I love it I don't see any slowdowns or anything! Very Wierd though everyone else seems to have problems for one reason or another! cool.gifwow.gif

I know how most people did run San Andreas fine on Vista, I couldn't on mine with 2GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT 512mb, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, But I downgraded to XP, And it worked fine then, all my problems were solved. But should San Andreas work fine without Compatibilty mode in Vista? I didn't need to use it for GTAIII Though...

Same problem here, game crashes after the intro. Tried moving it to program files, didn't help.

Vista 64-bit with UAC disabled.

Re-install Vista, see if that helps.

You deleted the set file after disabling the UAC?

Anyway, how does SA not work properly for me on Vista? I have 2gb DDR2 @ 667mhz, nVidia 8800 GT, Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz

Nothing works. The mouse lockups up, the game keeps freezing, and I get a message saying that Windows has shut down to prevent damage. This doesn't happen when I run GTA3.

This is the reason WHY I switched to XP, I dual booted Vista & XP, So I have both, but it doesn't happen in XP. Still happens in Vista, even with 98/XP Compatibilty mode. Did anyone have a similar problem?

i am playing it on vista and it couldn;t work any better samp and mods work perfectly with it too!! biggrin.gif

What edition of Vista do you have? I heard that it doesn't work well in Home Premuim, fine in others. I had issues on Home Premuim, but the Dual Boot I set, was XP With Vista Ultimate, but Vista in the dual boot, is not reading discs, but XP Is.

Set file? No clue what you are talking about. Re-installing Vista is a no-no, I just did recently and got a bunch of development stuff installed and setup, it's a pita having to re-install everything.

My specs:

AMD X2 6000+

XFX Geforce 8800GTS 320 MB

nForce 570SLI chipset

4 GB DDR2-800 Corsair TwinX

I played San Andreas on my brothers Vista laptop and it turns out with all these weird shapes and colours

When I play it on my sisters laptop, it works fine and it is newer

The laptops are both Vista and they are only 1-2 years apart!

Does anyone know where I can find a 100% saved gamee that will work on Vista? I have V.2, downgraded to v.1, and none of the saved games I've downloaded works. Game crashes to the destop if I try to choose a downloaded 100% saved game.

When you downgrade, you still need to use V2 Saves, not V1 Because the downgrader just changes your EXE. Try This 100% save

If that doesn't work, Try this save.

If neither work, then have you modded the main.scm?

works perfectly for me on ultimate without any problems, ive completed 100% on vista from the start

MY pc specs might be the reason

Intel Quad Core @ 2.40GHz(4 CPUs)

2GB Ram

1TB HD (two 500GB Partitions)

Nvidia Geforce 8600 (hoping to get 8800 in a month or so biggrin.gif )

I have the same specs, but It doesn't work well for me. VERY Bad on Vista.

Problems I have

. Mouse lockups

. Random crashes

. Laggy on an 8800 GT With 2GB RAM, And the same CPU As you

. I get a core memory dump about 80% of the time around LV, SF, And Badlands. Then have to reboot

So, I downgraded to XP, Because Imo Vista sucks.
