San Andreas on Windows Vista

Recommended Posts

My SA wont save with Windows Vista. It says check your save directory. I cant find the SA user files folder anywhere, would this cause the problem?

That tends to be a problem if you have a (.) period in your Windows User Name. If this is true, than try changing your Windows User Name and delete the .set files in Documents/User Files Folder.

Also, is this the Retail version or a Download Version? If Downloaded, from Where? If bought, from where? Are you using any No-DVD cracks? Have you updated ALL drivers for your Video Card/Display drivers/Sound car, etc.?

Sir , we don't help the users of No DVD cracks here in our forums , so try with a warez site!!

Well, is it wrong to use a crack if I have the original disc but don't mind to use it 'cause a crack is way more handy. I don't like to put the disc in every time I want to play...

Windows username is ok. My friend gave the disc so i don't know where did it came from and i'm using a no-dvd crack...

If you have the Disc, then try using that and getting rid of the No-DVD crack and see if it lets you save then. The Problem is that No-DVD cracks are not supported by Rockstar Games/Take 2, therefore there is no need for them, and thus may cause problems in the game.

It's not hard to put a disc in when you want to play a game-that is how console users have to do it-and so do PC users-unless they bought from Steam or D2D-which will launch the game without the disc AND without a crack. Since No-DVD cracks are considered Warez, then your PC might be considering the game as illegal software-IV has anti-piracy features, but i'm not sure if SA does or not. If you leave the disc in your drive all the time, you won't have to keep re-inserting the disc each time you want to play. The problem is that cracks are mostly used for illegal versions, and thus are not supported by Rockstar Games. If you insist on playing the game without a disc, then buy the game from Steam or D2D, and no disc will be needed to play.

But as Vassily said, unless you get rid of the crack, i'm afraid we cannot help you on these forums.

Ive always played on Vista! no real trouble with it, first time i ever tried modding the game i f**ked up big time, and its never worked in the rockstar games folder since confused.gif

Other then that no problems!

Its kinda laggy for me, i managed to get some car mods and some SnP saves now

What i hate is the mouse. I guess its because i have never played a cimputer game before, just PS3, but it seems way too sensitive to me. I put it on the lowest sensitivity, and i end up just standing there for ages lining up a shot while they blow me away

I play it on Windows 7, without much problems. It changes the theme while it's running. It goes to "Default Windows 7 skin" or something like that. And I get some slowdown while flying through the clouds. Don't know what's up with that, but things run pretty smoothly otherwise. I enjoy it more on Windows 7 than on XP because I had a lot of audio problems on XP, and now I don't. happy.gif

Tried to run SA without crack, did not help. Where should the SA User Files-folder be located with Vista? Tried to find it but didn't have much luck...

It should be in "(user name)/Documents". You should see a folder called "GTA San Andreas User Files".

I don't even have the documents folder in there. Maybe i have deleted it for some reason. Making a new one doesn't help. How on earth can i get it back? wow.gif

GTA:SA has pretty good security built in.

It doesn't like Pirate versions (because files and file flags are missing)

It Doesn't like Cracks for pretty much the same reason.

You will have to Un-install the Game and reinstall it clean.

I have done this, but it still doesn't save.

Here's some of my experience of gta:sa on vista:

was working fine until recently. Well, semi-fine. When it was working it was great but it would occasionally crash. And sometimes the mouse would stop registering and i'd have to press ESC to pause and unpause it to get it back again. But they were minor problems really.

Since tampering around with GTA alien city i can no longer get SA to work (see relevant thread). Ive uninstalled everything/system restored etc but SA just wont work. I can get to the menu fine, and when i start a new game/load i get the loading screen like normal. But it goes a little way in and stops, it just sort of hangs on around 5% with the music still playing. I have to use ctrl+alt+delete to close it. Ive tried all the usual stuff of uninstalling/reinstalling (even system restore), as well as deleting the .set file from my user files many times.

Anyone got any ideas? ;/

Remove the mod to see if it plays like it should. If it does then put you mod back. When it doesn't play because of the mod you will have to go to the Modding Forum to look for help.

I removed the mod a long time ago; thats what im saying. I uninstalled everything to do with alien city, uninstalled GTA: SA and reinstalled it to find this problem. After system restoring to before i'd even heard of alien city i still had this problem.

On my XP, GTA SA runs like a angel, downgraded to v1.0 like a beauty.

On my mum's laptop, she has Vista. I installed GTA SA with absolute no problem but when I try to downgrade it, it will say the file is corrupted (even I used it on my XP again, it worked)... I can't understand Vista tounge.gif

But everything on GTA SA is fine, audio, graphics everything is smooth and perfect, both on Vista and XP here.

How about:

From previous posting by girishb

Delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder.

If that doesn't help, try a complete reinstall. Follow these steps:

1) Uninstall SA.

2) Delete the installation folder if it still exists. (e.g. C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas).

3) Delete the Virtual Store copy of the installation folder too. The Appdata folder might be hidden. (e.g. C:\Users\???\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas).

4) Delete the gta_sa.set file from your user files folder.

5) Reboot.

6) Reinstall SA.

Thanks deleting the gta_sa.set worked but how do I activate cleo 3?

I have Vista on a desktop PC with 1GB RAM and an Intel Q35 Express Chipset Family and let me tell you San Andreas works as good as ever. I've installed a few mods and the game is still fine so go ahead and buy San Andreas, Install it and play with all the freaky myths and cool missions.
