NY Politicians Outraged By GTAIV Trailer

City Councilman Peter Vallone, The chairman of the Council’s Public Safety Committee said, “Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland,”

“It’s despicable to glamorize violence in games like these, regardless of how far-fetched the setting may be,” said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

The sheer audacity of the whole situation is just mind-boggling, especially because it comes from a legitimate newspaper NY daily that’s known for legitimate journalism.

This entire reaction stinks of unresearched bias and hypocrisy, even though there are huge crimes going on in the city, they state the above statements. If you watch some reality shows, your certain to fetch some real crimes going on in NY.

Thoughts?

Never saw that. But that is in 'The Lounge'. I think we should have it in GTAIV forums so I don't see no need for the discussion to be stopped here.

Who wrote it first though? In a sense you are ripping the credit of reporting the story. Anyhow, If anything that topic should be moved here.

<Doody> you're a mexican acting like he's some goddamn brainwashed inbred white piece of sh*t

Got it in one.

Hey guys, shut up and talk about the damn article.

Anyways, I agree with the last paragraph in the article. Saying that NYC is the "safest big city in America" is only true when you look at the fact that NYC is the biggest city in America, and most other cities look tiny by comparison (thus not a "big city"), leaving LA to be it's main "competitor." ell oh ell

And since he's the public safety chairman or whatever, he's just patting himself on the back.

...teh kicker.

They're just looking for an easy target. So why not go after the biggest one there is, gta? Idiot politicians at their best...

They said absolutely nothing about this game:

But when GTA does anything remotely associated with New York, it's a crime against all the good happy things in these politicians warped minds.

I smell foul play.

It happens on every release. No need to sweat. Rockstar will just throw a big BBQ and invite all the major politicians then everything will be A'OK. smile.gif

The only thing bothering me is why they always attack Rockstar just because they are Rockstar.

Were they outraged when True Crime : Streets of New York came out? Not that I know of. Why not?

Yeah but they didn't give a sh*t about True Crime: NY, not to mention IV is set in LIBERTY City.

Driver: Parallel Lines was also a game where you kill people, bust people out of jail with a lot of violence, and run over police officers...

but well, this time it's GTA eh? so let's complain about it.

different articles, seem to have quotes that others don't;

In previous incarnations, players advanced through the game by killing cops, selling pornography to children and killing prostitutes. Details of the latest version have not been released.

Selling porno to kids? wtfhellno mad.gif
