second edition SA: skins won't work?

okay.

 

so the other day i was looking online and i read that i couldn't get skins with the second edition san andreas, so i got he patch to make it from 2nd to 1st. and so i went onto some site... gta-worldsmod or something like that, got a whole lot of car models, and thats it. And i loaded up san andreas, and my game was messed up. so much lag, skins didn't work for the cars i got (PLUS!! i got IMGTool, and this is exactly what i did: first, i got a car model, and lets say its for the merit. so i deleted the existing merit.dff and merit.txd files and i put in the merit.dff and merit.txd files i got from that website, that skin to replace it. but nothing worked! and it was a very nice skin too!)

 

it's confussing. but please help me people. i reinstalled san andreas and i need your help because i want to play sa:mp and get a lot of mods. I mean i'll be perfectly happy with the game itself, but still.

if you delete something from the .img files, you have to 'Rebuild the Archive', 'cause if you just delete them, you only delete the "images", not the files. if you 'Rebuild Archive', the files will be deleted, too. but remember

ALWAYS BACKUP EVERYTHING!

yeah well what im doing is using the SA:mod installer and i replace the .dff and .txd files with the skins that i downloaded... but San Andreas wont work. it crashes. but when i load up SA:MP, the models show perfectly.
