Mass Effect is an action role-playing game under development by BioWare exclusively

for the Xbox 360. It's exact release date is not yet known, but it will be the first installment of a

planned trilogy. The game takes place in the year 2183, with the player assuming the role of an

elite human soldier named Commander Shepard. The story revolves around an ancient alien

prophecy stating that, every fifty thousand years, machines come to the galaxy to harvest all

organic life, and the time of their return is approaching. As the first human Spectre – sworn

defenders of galactic peace – Shepard's mission is to halt the advancing armies of a legendary

agent gone rogue. Shepard will lead an elite team across hostile alien worlds and discover

that the true threat is far greater than anyone imagined.

Overview:

 

Mass Effect allows you to create your own customizable version of Commander Shepard

(or jump in and use the pre-created character) and plunge yourself into the center of an

epic science-fiction story. Choose your squad-mates, your weapons, skills and abilities,

and customize your vehicles, armor and appearance - you are in complete control over

your experience.

 

In the course of your mission to stop the machine invasion, you may choose to follow the

path of the soldier, the tech-specialist, or the biotics-specialist…each of which brings an

arsenal of unique yet equally powerful abilities to use against the enemy. Wield a

multitude of weapon types with precision accuracy…utilize your technical skill to turn

enemy war machines against their creators…or unleash the full power of Dark Energy

against your foe with devastating effects.

 

As you progress throughout the game you will improve your character's skills,

abilities, and equipment (including weapons, armor, biotic implants and more) to

ensure that you have the means to face the growing threat before you.

 

This customization also extends to the MAKO - the rover with which you will explore

the surface of hostile alien worlds. You can improve your vehicle's grip, speed, armor,

boosters, weaponry and more.

 

The role you choose to play in Mass Effect will have tremendous consequences on

the galaxy around you. You will face moral dilemmas in which the decision you

ultimately make will significantly alter the fate of civilized life in the galaxy.

 

Your mission will take you into the deepest reaches of known

space - and beyond. Aboard your ship, the Normandy, you will choose which

planets to investigate, and where to take your team. In addition to the major

worlds of the main story arc, you will have the freedom to visit a wide array

of uncharted planets and other locations such as asteroids and abandoned

space freighters adrift in space. On many worlds, take your team planet side

in the MAKO in order to explore and find alien life, ancient artifacts and

ruins, rogue trader colonies and a host of other amazing discoveries.

360 Exclusive?

 

Lame.

 

 

After just looking at the pictures, I thought it looked too much like an over-hauled DooM3 Engine. But the level of detail in the video was amazing.

What to say? It looks mind-bogglingly amazing. KOTOR was pretty much the greatest game ever, and I don't care for Star Wars. I would keep playing, kept thinking it would end, but it just kept going. It was exhausting and the best gaming experience EVER.

 

The Brothers In Arms-style combat looks really neato. An already immersive and beautiful RPG with great combat mechanics is destined for legendary... badassery.

 

I do not know what will happen if this game turns out to be crap. I may lose all hope for the future.

Talk about KOTOR on steroids. Bigger galaxy, more diverse species, better combat, improved dialog...this is one of the reasons I bought a 360.

Seeing as this game is being made as the same people who made the rather awesome Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic I think we could be in for another hell of a game if Bioware are on top form again.

 

The amount of planets that you can explore in Mass Effect is meant to be quite high, even more than in Kotor so that should give the game some longetivity at least. It also has an interesting plot about the robots/machines killing off humanity every so often. I will definetley buy this game when it comes out, been a while since a good action/rpg came out(aside from Oblivion of course).

 

And it\'s a 360 exclusive aswell..brilliant!!!

Anyway, I thought KOTOR/KOTOR were some of the best games ever made. Not only are they really great if you're into Star Wars, they are also very solid RPG's, and you get a real sense of being in that whole universe. Very strong stories, characters, and voice acting added to the experience, and the incredible score didn't hurt either.

 

This game is also one of the reasons I bought a 360, and it's like an unofficial "KOTOR 3". I'll be honest and say I forgot a lot of the stuff I read about it in EGM and GI, and there's a lot of dev blogs and previes and videos and screens I need to check out as well, but I'm sure I'll be even more excited about this game when I do.

 

Oh, btw to any of those who saw those bad looking screens released recently, it's been explained by the devs that those were indeed pre-alpha screens and not up to the quality of the current state of the game.

Bioware seem to prefer making all there games for Microsofts machine anyway what with Kotor, Jade Empire and now Mass Effect.

Dude honestly, shut up! I said it was dumb that the so Called "Nex-gen" in RPG's is only coming out for the 360, I didnt realize that you would take it so personally! I'm Sorry I offended you dude but I just dont give a f*ck!! I've had an Xbox before as i've said before on these forums, I had a SNES, N64 and a Gameboy u gonna call me a nintendo fanboy next? seriously dude I just dont see myself wasting money on a new 360 when the Elite is coming out at the end of april.

Will Mass Effect Be Coming To PC?

As we've said before, Mass Effect is planned as an Xbox 360 exclusive title. This means we are not working on a PC version and have no plans to start making one.

It is possible that one could be made in the future, but it would certainly be a wait of a number of years before we even start to make one, let alone actually release such a thing.

 

I'm not saying that waiting is 100% a bad idea. I never thought we would make a PC version of Jade Empire, but now we are. But if you want to wait multiple years just to find out that we are not making one, then it's up to you.

 

Personally, I don't own a 360 either. But I take a look at Mass Effect which is already 3 games that I want to own (the original, plus our announced 2 sequels), I look at the content that'll be available for ME through Xbox Live, and I look at the other titles on the 360 that I'd like to play (even though I'm a PC RPG geek, I do play a few sports games which I find work better on platforms), and I'm going to buy one.

 

Whether you get one or not, it should be a careful decision for you, or for anyone. We have a number of staff here at the office with old "next big thing" consoles they bought for only 1 or 2 games gathering dust. Look at the titles available, look at your finances and see what the right choice is for you.

I've had my eye on this one since 2005. Definitely guna grab it on opening day. Anyone who liked Kotor, I strongly recommend this.
