Mapping Liberty City (Laying Out Liberty City)

TinCan inspired me to squish actual NYC boroughs to be roughly the shape of the islands on the Police Boat Map (PBM). A few areas are traced where the real boroughs couldn't line up. Real NYC is used as filler for the obscured southeast corner of the PBM map.

Next, I used a street grid, based on the best guess of Liberty City's scale to San Andreas, to attempt to scale the GTA4.net Broker Map to the PBM. I was only scaling using my grid but by coincidence Platypus ended up about the same relative size as ships in San Andreas, so I think this is pretty good. Ignoring the actual map of Brooklyn, the Broker Bridge is positioned assuming it will connect with the southern tip of Algonquin as the Brooklyn Bridge does to Manhattan.

Looks good, look like it could be four different areas to me so could mean that there may be four areas to unlock in the game well three if you think about it biggrin.gif

Here's a few more shots tied together: (some are guesses)

Tollbooth: Niko entering dukes. Motorbike: Niko entering Bohan. (shots are from opposite ends of the bridge)

Top: Niko driving North. Bottom: Niko driving East. (judging from the direction of the antenna)

Opposite sides of the on-off ramp by the Ron station.

One above and one below the elevated tracks by the Screamer.

is THIS the other side of the brickhouse they fight on in the above image?

maybe the map we can see in the boat is a littlepart of the map, like a GPS and it's moving at the same time than the boat. We can imagine a map a few time bigger smile.gif

Ignore me if 'm wrong but the first pic seems kinda wrong. I've never seen a bridge open up into a freeway like that. There are exits and whatnot. Seems odd to me. I'm probably wrong though.

It's a complex of three bridges with roads between.

The real one has got a tollbooth as well, but its located towards Manhattan.

I'm just guessing, but the roads, signs and overpass looks similar.

Shut up and die asshole!

So, what I wanted to say...

I don't have a photoshop and only thing in my PC that resembles it is paint.net, but I'm offline so I returned to the stone age and made a comparison map of Alconquin and San Fierro part of SA. Assuming that the size of map in IV is 3/4 of SA map, I made a map on paper (using one of the earlier maps) with the same ratio as the paper map from SA box. And it's pretty accurate I'd say. Now say it's not big enough lol!

Wow, that is impressive......and seems realistic for Algonquin's size.

Still wish we had a better idea of how much of New Jersey was in the game.

I just noticed one thing... there is a neighborhood named leftwood. I know it's a bit off topic, but this seems to be the only place to post it. If you look at this pic, you'll see the "Leftwood community hall"

EDIT: Ah, sh*t. Forgot to post the pic!

I really want to know. I won't be pleased with a small strip of land.

I don't think Algonquin will be as small as many of you draw and what is it about you people thinking that Bluespot is a "conspiracy" he is an ordinary Norwegian citizen that discovered something cool in a trailer, i would rather think Deepthrouth_GTA is an former employee of r*

All these discoveries makes me think how many discoveries is gonna be found in the game***DROOLS***

I hope R* release the map on the GTAIV site soon like they did for GTA: SA cause i really wanna know how big it is and how it resembles NYC

P.S f*ck Jack Thompson that commie! KILL KILL!!

Good job. Especially in noticing the boat. In real life the chrysler building is near

the river so it's pretty damn accurate.

Good find on the background building.

Allthough I'm not convinced about the "river" idea.

I've made a cutout of that portion and fiddled the colors a bit,

and to me it looks more like a car that drives past a pole.

But I maybe wrong.

Yes, very nice map indeed. but i wonder all the time: don't you guys have anything better to do?

i mean, can't you just wait for the game, and see the map in there for yourself?

what do you guy's think? i know it's without the city's and stuff.. i'm not that good at that kind of stuff.. this is just what i think it's going to be like... comparing it to the small and the bigger map's (edit: allthough i might think that the little island's in the middle there might be together instead of separated)

Alderney is supposed to be the biggest Borough according to R*, I can imagine it's the size of Dukes and Broker combined.

This is a map in a boat, so it is unlikely it would show Alderney which is a land area.

The question is, what will it look like? Apart from Jersey City, is it going to be all suburbs? I'd like to see the airport & military base here, plus the junkyard and train yards...
