Mapping Liberty City (Laying Out Liberty City)

Recommended Posts

gggg

Of course it says Liberty City they wouldnt actually call it New York, I mean it's not the same Liberty City as in GTA3.

And those locations are actually in New York anyway.

Yes so why are you saying it's not "Liberty City?" GTA3 with Liberty City was always based off of new york. Rockstar is just re-making it for GTA IV.

NOT THE FLATIRON

the exterior is to smooth and the building is too flat

and closer resembles This building

plus just looking at it... it is not traingular shaped!

I wasn't necessarily looking at that building specifically but maybe I'm wrong. What about the building in front of the Staunton hideout?

the building in front of staunton was a replica of the flatiron... but THIS IS NOT

Yes well what about this? It says it's the Flatiron building.

GTA IV- New York comparison Check location # 5.

Edit- I believe that building to be the building outside of the Staunton Island hideout too.

I was replying to someone who was saying it would be the same Liberty City as in GTA3.

Argh! Thread stretch! cry.gif

On the subject of the Flatiron building, I would have to say that IMO it is meant to be that one. Okay so it might not be exactly a perfect re-creation of it, but I would say its pretty obvious none the less.

p.s. How's the map of Liberty City coming along thread starter?

Nice work mate! This deserves a cookie. cookie.gif

By the way, the Flat Iron building was in GTA III and Liberty City Stories.

I dont mean to have a go at anyone here, but would people please stop writing "Flat iron" its Flatiron. There is a district of Manhattan called Flatiron (like Chelsea or Soho) and I'm sure thats what its named after, not a piece of metal.

p.s. And in terms of what church it is meant to be it is blatantly St Patrick's. They just decided to remove the two spires on either side. I guess because they dont look that good...

I Smell Like Swag

Do you guys realize that "Liberty City" is just R* renamed version of New York City? (minus some parts of NJ?)

LC & NYC are not two complete different cities, it's the fact that LC wasn't the greatest creation of it so R* is going at it again bigger and better, a lot of folks seem to be getting confused

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's that building, as I included in my map.

I'm also pretty sure that the building at its back (the one who also shares a resemblence to some NY building) it's the building who was in construction on GTA3.

If you look at the images I posted they haven't left them out, they're at the back (I've circled them as reference points)

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum but have been reading for a long time, just not really thought of adding anything.

Whilst watching the play back of the trailer I noticed that in the first shot with the above ground rail, there are some water towers above the buildings on the right and it is my thought that we see a similar water tower in the street shot along with potentially similar brown block buildings on the far right of each shot.

Although you lot have been mapping the 'Manhatten' island extremely well, I think if you compare this against the original GTAIII layout, you could presume that these images are from the 'Brooklyn/Queens' area of the map and maybe use it as a starting point to mapping that area.

I hope this helps in some way

TW

Edit: I have also noticed a cable car on this shot just behind the foreground suspension wire on the far side of the bridge. If you watch the trailer it is moving across from right to left.

If you look just below it too you can actually see how close the one island is to the other in some places. There appears to be a channel of water that unless the bridge is much longer than it looks indicate that the islands are close together at this point! In fact if you follow the trailer through that shot of the bridge, you can see the channel appearing on the bottom left. If you consider the real NYC then the channel between Manhatten and Brooklyn/Queens does Narrow more to the Northern end. Whereas it is is wider further south in the area where the Brooklyn Bridge is positioned.

Hey, after looking at pretty much every church and cathedral in NYC it looks like St patrick's is the closest, despite it having spires.

1: Speaks for itself

2: Look closely at the inner design of the triangle. The design is a complete replica.

3: The overlaying tiles at the bottom, then a roof

4: Once again, look at the inner design. No doubt exactly the same design, right down to the gothic notches.

There are plenty more similarities.

I appreciate your work in trying to layout the pictures into the old GTA3 map but IMO GTA4:LC's map will be much like the real thing and not the fictional 3 island layout.

R* made a whole "new" playing area.

I seem to remember an interview with one of the Housers in which he expressed disdain for movie/TV/game makers who changed important details in a series without explanation. I think because of this they will not make LC an entirely new city. The will probably update it, upgrade it, and most likely include the surrounding areas. I don't know if anyone else is familiar with this interview but it might be the one that also included the quote about Everquest as possible inspiration for a future online GTA.

Also I made a simple map - possible locations of some trailer scenes on GTA3 map:

I am betting that the new bridge is past the ferry area more directly over the tunnel.. looking at image of the cars passing over the bridge where you see it in the distance.. it looks like the ferrys dock right in front of china town.

I reckon it'll be something similar too. Only larger and more accurate still.

p.s. Man it was fun jumping that broken bridge on the bike. Hey that reminds me: the bridge was broken in GTA3 too. Can't believe I didnt spot that similarity til now! suicidal.gif

p.p.s And I also only just realised that the old map is sort of divided into 3 zones and obviously GTA3 was. Plus the middle island in GTA3 was the financial district, just like it is in the old map. Damn why am I noticing that GTA and GTA3 have more similarities than I previously thought only now! confused.gif

p.p.p.s. Makes me want to go and play a bit of the original GTA for old times sake. (The PC version of course!)
