Mapping Liberty City (Laying Out Liberty City)

Recommended Posts

I just think its wierd, since there's no beaches in NYC... oh well. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif  lol.gif

No beaches? Correct me, but isn't NYC on the East Coast? All that coastline... Take a look.

The beach in question says Hove Beach, Liberty City; a play on Brighton Beach and the "Brighton, Hove actually" connection to England. It's in this thread...lots of good info is, actually.

Also I'm not sure that everyone has noticed that A B C in this pic

http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img02/8/5/27...l3m_0cee3ab.jpg

is the same place as this:

Hope I contributed somewhat to this topic with that analysis.

everything looks the same in these two pics but the size of the two trees

Hmmm nice bike

You're right. The metal cover and cracks on the road from the trailer are gone in the top picture. Either the textures were removed, or the shot with the taxi and cop car was an early shot, taken before then trailer.

An interesting difference I see in the pictures is that the trailer one seemes alot more delapitaded and worn that the HD one. Almost as if the trailer pic is taken 30 years or so after the first one. Either that or the HD pic is taken after some sort of restoration of the place. Just look at the rusty rails, the cracked pavement and dirty sidewalk. So, either the game is set in a long span of time where the city changes (highly unlikely) or they decided to change the look and feel of the place a bit.

very good spotting there, the sidewalk or path is made of slabs instead of a solid concrete block which makes it look a lot nicer and more realistic, the road is also a lot better and realistic, the apartments are very well kept and posh looking so a dilapidated road doesnt fit too well. Also the rubbish is gone.

These are nice improvments smile.gif

Also...after looking at all these screen shots, i am getting way over excited about this game, i cant wait for it biggrin.gif

I think I have spotted where his area is located smile.

http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img02/8/5/27...l1m_8b61b56.jpg

As you can see I have marked the chimney and the two almost identical highrises with A and B

Now look here. I have marked what I think is the chimney and two highrises in the far distance:

Hmm, not sure if I agree. This is what I think...

#1 in this screenshot is definitely one of the cranes seen in this shot - the only problem is I'm not sure which one it is. I think it's probably the one furthest north...

I guess hes not right, because if you look at the front door you can see that on the first pic they have windows on the second pic it's just a massive door. But it may be old textures, the shop looks the same.

looks like 925 President street house in Park Slope, Brooklyn?

looks like Old Ferry terminal in Hoboken Terminal, NJ?

Err.. Victorian houses are pretty common, especially in a city in an ex-British colony.

can you just stop posting? I've noticed that everytime I see one of your posts your trying to sound smarter than the person your quoting. but you just end up sounding like an idiot.

those aren't victorian style houses. they're duplex's. and I don't know where a duplex fits into a british style. the duplex is a result of more people in less space. Nothing to do with it being an ex-british colony. they're abundant in highly populated areas, including california.

so please, the next time you want to post just do everybody a favor and don't. all your doing is making the people who read your posts slightly dumber.

No-one has yet figured out where the old sugar factory lies, right?

Good work, guys.

in real new york, it lies opposite the New Sugar Fasctory north of the williamsburg bridge i think.

anyway, i'm not sure if anyone else noticed this but in this screenshot i see clearly some sort of pepsi can: http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hovebeachpc1.jpg

It is the same place. One is slightly older and I think it either suggests Liberty City dilapidates during the process of the game or it continues to refurbish itself throughout the game. The definite give away is the tree, lamp post, fire hydrant and the telephone poles are all in the exact same location in both pictures and if you look at the road you can see the same shadow at different times of the day.

Now, let's just get back on topic, everyone.

Has anyone figured out yet which real-life church, if any, the one in the trailer is based on? I looked through some Manhattan churches, but didn't find a match. Some similarities, though.

St. Patrick's Cathedral icon14.gif

Yes, they have some similar ornaments, but...

user posted imageuser posted image

...I wouldn't say it's the same building. I mean, you might as well say it's based on the Westminster Abbey: tounge.gif

user posted image

I would go with the St Patrick's Cathedral. It Could be a simplified version of it.

Also, there's no building in the background of the Westminster abbey while they are on St Patrick's. They look alike tho.

why can it not be a mix of both?.. kinda looks that way to me.

Almost all of park slope looks like that. Then there are other sections in the city as well with similar houses. However, Park Slope is a rich neighborhood and the streets are very narrow. Parking is a nightmare.

This type of house is called "Brownstone". There are plenty of such houses in NY, but the house on the picture is unique. These two houses are very similar and the one in the trailer "is duplicated" very precisely.

Nothing really new in this photo.  Just an east facing view from Times Square.

This next image though does confirm that you were right Tibatonk.  From the position of the Trump building here we can be sure that the building that was in the sun from the closing shot of the trailer was not the Trump Building, and was actually the Woolworth Building.

I think your building number 8 is actually 1460 Broadway.

You should check out this picture : http://www.swigco.com/1460broadway_files/1460broadway.jpg

Its not directly next to the Conde Nast building but i think Rock* just skipped a little building between.

Took an awful long time to find this frikkin building!

It maybe isn't a very great simular building but i think it also not a very important building , so rock* just put some building there with no great details on it.

I have looked up the position of this building on google earth and i think this is the right building.

For the ones who likes coordinates:

40°45'18.74"N

73°59'10.61"W

By the way great job other guys are doing in this topic!!

Actually. It is a direct copy of St Patricks Cathedral. We're just seeing the back of the cathedral.

Here's a comparison I made:
