Please give some sort of warning

Recommended Posts

Seriously, with all the new members flooding the gates of gtaforums, its impossible to not notice the lack of spelling skills these people possess. Is it that difficult to hit a few more keys in order to write because rather than cuz? I understand if a person is from another country and they speak in broken English, but its another thing to rite lik dis cuz im cool and then post a hundred of those rahkstar2.gif emoticons after they are done blabbing. If you know the english language well, then use it, there are people here who would like to see sentences and paragraphs, not a block of text. More than half of the new members don't even read the rules and are making countless threads and posts for no good reason. I know this has been addressed quite a few times, but I am hoping for it to actually have something done about it. Thanks.

Just ignore their posts if they suck. I agree that it's painful to see, so just skip right over them - it's their fault if their opinions aren't read. They're generally not worth reading anyway; if they can't put forth any effort with conveying their message, it's tough to assume that the message itself will be any better.

I suprt ur idea!

People write like that only on Online Games. I did so on SWAT 4 tounge.gif. But this is an internet forum, not a chat-place. If you are dumb go play something. This place is for people who understand English, not the language's abusers. And 1337 speech is even worse. 1 4M c00l! OMG, how I hate n00bs...

If it's impossible to understand, report it as spam.

If it's just difficult to read then it's no worse than the people who choose to override the default high contrast colours (light text on dark bg skins and vice versa) with their own choice of post colour. For example, the above post.

Lol, I can read it on the default skin tounge.gif... You want me to write black? I don't like white that much tounge.gif. Besides, my post color is... it's what I am! It is me! biggrin.gif

P.S. If you can't understand something, highlight the text wink.gif.

I tend to skip the pple who typ liek dis rahkstar2.gifthat_guy2057_evilgrin.gif

But, its bound to happen when GTAIV comes out/trailer release. Happens with every new GTA. I used to type like that back when i first joined two-ish years ago but seeing other people, i grew out of it and type like everyone else.

Although font color is a different matter. But, usually the new guys don't know how to finish off the BB code tags for colors.

... I used to type like that back when i first joined two-ish years ago but seeing other people, i grew out of it and type like everyone else.

...

So did I, and when I look at those posts of mine, I hate them. They look n00b-ish and stupid. Also 2 years ago tounge.gif.

Because he wanted to use his universal internet alias, and FunkyChunky > Funk3h is not aloy.

I support this, you have my I. Hopes are that the I's have it. At the same time, realize that not everyone can spell well.

I have a friend who types in all caps and has problems reading (dyslexia, a few other things, w/e) and I can't stand when he messages me, but he's a cool dude, I just try to read better.

The high contrast is indeed there for a reason, and I hate trying to read dark colors like the above, those are the posts I skip. Hurts my eyes sometimes. I DO indeed highlight text, but it just makes me think the poster was an ass to make me tounge.gif Not anything against the poster, or their preference, I just can't stand trying to pick apart that sh*t. If dey be talkun like dis, I dont pay any mind, and in fact all they are doing at that point (since lots of folks here seem to skip over things like that too) is spamming up the board and killing the experience from time to time.

On the other hand, skipping those posts also leads to an unfulfilled experience, because what if the dumbass speaks some smart stuff? then I'm f*cked and out of the loop, doomed to look like a newbie for saying something someone talkun like dis shared previously, so I end up reading that bullsh*t.

EDIT: wanted to also mention:

People who do not natively speak English cant just "sound out" what people write. So indeed, people who "be talkun like dis and tighping all stupod" are asses and should be warned, and a good enough reason is that not everyone sounds things out, and they look stupid is good enough too, and our overall image (who knows when JTs goons will come snooping for a "This is a typical gta fan post!" to throw at the gaming industry(cause r* IS the gaming industry, WHAT! lol)

If GTAF were to implement this rule, one request would be a spellchecker (kinda hard with the strain I suppose) or at least a reminder "Check your post for unacceptable spelling. This is your only warning"

Cause grammar errors are ok, but purposely misspelling sh*t to look 1337 or gangsta or cool to your buddies is seriously a bother. This isnt myspace.

Those people are just influenced by playing too much MapleStory and childish games. smile.gif (I'm not talking about Mario, PacMan or Pong here, those are classics that are worth playing. I'm talking about those "Chat Games" like IMVU, MapleStory and Habbo Hotel.)

or at least a reminder "Check your post for unacceptable spelling. This is your only warning"

This is the best idea I've heard so far. When the poster hits the "Add Reply" button it should automaticaly run a search in his text for smillie abuse (there should be a limit) and for mispelled words (liek and teh are the usual errors). The search can also make small corrections, like capitalizing the "i", those things help posts become readable.

But I need teh for "teh roxor!!" sad.gif

And there is an emoticon limit! I dound it last night when I posted my PS2 games in The Lounge>Gaming Chat (two thumbs rating is just too much I guess tounge.gif

Maybe an ignore feature that adds a pip to each member who ignores you.

So for instance, if I ignore "dat gai!" he can still PM me and ask why, and I can tell him he types like a fool. This would of course be rough to implement in an encouraging manner...

That sounds like it would cause more problems than it would fix. Besides it'll only add too the server problems.

Like Fuzzy and fred said, ignore the posts or report them as spam. Don't get worked up over them. It's really not a very big deal. Besides little can be done to solve it.

And of course, there's still the open world and not everyone can spell nicely. Basically, we must practice empathy and sympathy for "d0ze d00ds" and hope that encouraging them to write clearer will work better than negatively bashing them in the topics we find them. Bashing is for the folks with the banning sticks, report' em. And throw them some constructive advice.

Of course, I am SURE a staggering percentage of the folks that f*ck your eyes is fully literate.

Post like this really annoy me.

The "not everyone knows English" arguement could go both ways. If people who grew up using the English language everyday have a difficult time reading the posts, then imagine how difficult it is for people trying to learn.
