1280*1024 won't run

Sorry if this was mentioned, but i didn't find anything like this in here.

 

I have a 19" LCD monitor 1280*1024, when I attempt to start a game after the instalation it runs normally. But the second time i try to run it, it just returns to desktop. After some investigation I found that it isn't working if resolution is set to more than 800*600!!! If I have the resolution set to 800*600 it starts, then I can change resolution to 1280*1024 and it runs normally, but it cannot be started if resolution is already set to 1280*1024. Any help??? thx

 

P.S. My PC is 2Gb RAM, 256Mb Radeon x1950, and Intel Core 2 duo 2,4 Ghz . So I don't think the problem occurs because of me having a bad PC.

this is just a guess, but maybe it has to do with video memory. the higher the resolution, the more memory the game will need. the same can be said of raisin draw distance and turnin off frame limiter.
