Hai gayz! Well I thought I create a STALKER Topic because it's quite a heavy game in other forums and yea well I was surprised that someone didn't create one here wow.gif

Anyhowz, STALKER is a game that was originally set to be released in 2003 but yeah that didn't really work out so now we have a slightly dated Game but can certainly (when you're lucky) deliver some top ass graphics.

Why do I say "when you're lucky"? Well the X-Ray Engine is kinda sh*t when it comes to stability. ATi Users shouldn't even try and STALKER ain't even supported by Vista so yeah.... On NVIDIA Graphics cards one should keep the first AF Level or else it's gonna rain graphical glitches when it ... rains.

But apart from that: The Game is superb, it combines Half Life: 2, Quake 4, GTA with an RPG Game like Oblivion. I really like the way how the RPG Setting works out, you can do whatever you want and the Freedom is like in GTA Games...

The Setting is as you may have noticed the 30kms Zone around the NPP of Chernobyl which exploded in 1986, creating a Radioactive Zone and thousands of dead people because of that radiation. STALKER plays in 2012 and follows up another explosion in late 2006 which led to Far Cry/Half Life: 2 kind of monsters running around the scene.

G MONEY $$$

I've been waiting for this game for years. Unfortunately at the moment I don't have a PC that could run this game...at least not very well. Plus, back in the day the graphics were almost mind-blowing, now they're just good. I'm sure its still a great game but...I dunno, not sure if I want to invest in it at the moment.

It's a kick ass game. It's been a very long wait, but I think it's been worth it in the end. The AI is extremely intellegent. No two battles are ever the same. Sometimes it's just fun to sit and watch mutants and humans battle, or battle each other.

The graphics aren't exactly cutting edge anymore, but the environments are still eerie and very well done. Sounds are essential to this game. In camps, you can hear groups of stalkers talking around a fire, playing guitar, patrolling, etc. You'll get creeped out by the sounds in the underground levels too.

As for multiplayer, it's pretty good. I played it when the MP beta came out but not for the final release yet. Should be about the same. I enjoy it, but I wish there were a few more MP modes. My guess is that there will be more modes/levels released with future patches.

Overall, you're paying $40 for a game with few flaws and kickass gameplay. You really can't go wrong.

Yea well you don't really need a high-end PC for this one G Money $$$, just set the damn thing to Static Lightning (Dx8) and you're set.

There is a problem though with the Sound, EAX does not work. I have a fix but now they all speak like they're in a garage or in the bathroom (sound effects like)

If anyone has some problems with it, ask here; I've read all kinds of topics with all kinds of solves.

Also some mods are available like giving the weapons just more damage and all that...

It's been over 4 years ago since I first posted about this game here in gaming chat. Although I'm sure it's kick ass, it's a shame it lost most of its momentum in years of delays. My gaming PC has been down for a long time and I bet my Radeon x800 xt would balk at it anyhow.

Sadly, they needed someone like Microsoft to be backing them if this game was ever going to follow through the way it was meant to. But that would have made it an xbox title when it's a PC title at heart.

I really want this game but I am not sure how well it will run, with the option of using DX8 shaders and lighting I might have a chance. Any ideas? I am running a lowly Athlon [email protected], 1GB RAM, 6600GT 128MB and I've seen the requirements which my CPU only just scraps through on minimum but others fit between recommended and minimum.

As Xcom said its sad this game lost its momentum early on because it did have a huge following and hype surrounding it.

I have a similar computer, except an AMD64 3000. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get anyone to tell me how STALKER will run after asking. The only response I've gotten was that the 6600GT doesn't perform well with this game, which is a bit unsettling. He didn't go into any detail though and that was all I got in the three topics I made. mad.gif

Anyways, I just learned about this game about a week ago, and it does look interesting. I can't wait to try it out if my computer will run it.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) , 1.84 GHz Video

ATi Radeon X800 PRO 256meg

1024MB RAm

I can run it on 1600x1200 with most things on Medium and it runs fine. Just have static lighting on it should run decently, that's what i've got.

Still looks decent enough too:

Though looking at vALKYR's screenshots, I want to kidnap him and steal his computer. biggrin.gif

Honestly, it's one of the few modern PC games that are actually fun to play, and IMO lives upto the hype. The game just has an amazing atmosphere.

That's good to hear, Trows. My specs are similar so I should give it a go

P4 3.0C

1GB ddr400

aiw x800 xt

/runs off to newegg and orders new hard drive + stalker

Yep as I already said, the Static Lightning enables even the sh*ttier systems to play the game.

Though ATi report to have problems nearly all the time, these; in contrast, only happen with Dynamic Dx9 Lightning on so yeah...

I can run the game with Dx9, high textures and high object detail, grass shadows off and the rest medium @ 1280x1024 and 4XAF, AA disabled because of HDR... thanks to my 7950GT 512MB HDCP smile.gif

As Xcom said its sad this game lost its momentum early on because it did have a huge following and hype surrounding it.

I have similar specs to you, XP2000, 1.5GB Ram, but lower graphics card, a Geforce FX 5600 128MB, just below minimum requirements. I don't even know if it will even work at all on my system with the card being below its needs.

Although i can't run it, i still bought the game. I use my dads pc, but can't play it whenever i want as he uses it alot.

He has a Athlon 64 4600+ Dual Core with 1GB Ram (don't think its enough really, i've even got more than that) and a 7600GT, its quite slow when you first start, but once everything has loaded and the AI is doin' its thing, it get smooth, but i think my dad could do with a bit more memory, maybe another Gig.

The first time i played it the rain was messed up, but after i had closed the game down and restarted it, it was fine, no problems at all, except slow starting.

GTAFreak, if you really want to know if it will run, i could try it tomorow on my system, whether or not it will run with my card i don't know, if it does work then great, i will be able to play it on my own time on my own PC.

Its a great game, well woth the wait IMO, although i've only recently been interested in it (i'd say within the last year) so i can't say ive been waiting ages for it lol, its only in the last month i've really been interested in it, when i found out it was based on a real area thats radioactive because of a nuclear powerplant that exploded. Its a perfect place for a game to be based, because there is hardly anyone living there cos of the radiation, many stores can be made from this scenario.

I like the way they have tried to create some areas exactly how they are in real life, i wonder if you can actualy go inside the sarcophagus (big building around exploded Reactor #4, that is meant to keep the radiation in), i don't know if you can, cos i havn't read walkthroughs so i don't spoil anything. In real life if you went inside, even with the best protection it would be like having thouasands of X-rays per second appartently, which would kill you within a couple of minutes. I think when the disaster happened it only released about 5% of its radiation, and apparently it will take another 900 years for the rest to go away.

I like the weather effects and atmosphere in the game, especialy at night time, in a thunderstorm, thats creepy as hell, and havn't even got to the scary enemies yet.

I'm going to play it now actualy, dad has gone to bed so its ok for me to play, hope i dont get nightmares from playing it so late lol.

I haven't played a good PC game for a while now, so I'm on the lookout for some new great games that will get me back into them. I've seen quite a bit about this game and I can definitely say that I want this game. The visuals look great, and I really can't wait to get my hands on it. It seems a lot of you have heard about this game for years, but, for me, I've only recently found out about it, so I'm definitely going to go away and read up some more about what appears to be a really great game.

From what I have seen, the size of the game looks huge, and I'm sure it's something that'll keep me entertained for a fair while. Hopefully the multi-play side of things is great as well.

*sigh*

The patch makes all pre-patch savegames unplayable. Wish I had known that beforehand....gotta start all over, but I don't mind, wouldn't mind doing some of the earlier side quests.

Please note though that the patch only really fixes mulitplayer problems and compability with Vista... not really worth it.

The word "Performance Fixes" and stuff like that would certainly make me rush to the next download site tho...

I LOVE THIS GAME.

And I've only played into the second level? lol.

I'd play more right now if my computer wasn't running like a sh*t heap. I think I love this game mainly for the fact of just imagining that this could happen at Chernobyl(the whole Stalker thing).

It wows me so much and it has even made me stop playing WoW for a little.

GTAFreak, I Tried it on my system today, and pleased to say it works fine, although the graphics are nowhere near as good as they can be, so for you they shouldn't be as bad as mine, seen as you have a higher card, but because i have a bit more Ram than you it may not be as fast for you, it helps in this game to have as much Ram as you can get.

I put the resolution to 1024x768, and graphics level on medium, and started the game, i was amaized at how smooth it played, but still room for improvement, so i reduced the shadows a bit and changed a few other settings and got it to play alot better, slows down a little when theres alot going on though, or when it rains, but still playable.

so if you really want to play the game, but can't wait until you have upgraded, it should be ok, if not, 512MB of ram should help a little, maybe even a 1GB stick.

Yeah thanks for that, were you running it with dynamic lighting on or off ie. DX8 or DX9? I am not sure what setting changes it from DX8 to DX9 but I've heard its something to do with dynamic lighting.

Yeah the lighting has a huge affect on the game, just put it on static and it should work really well. Unless that is, you have a computer that can handle the lighting.

I had it on Static lighting (DX8 i think), i didn't have a choice, there were a few other settings that i couldn't change either, like sun and grass shadows and shaddow quality, but you have a higher card than me so it may be different for you.

Yeah a 6600GT is a DX9 card whereas a FX5600 is DX8 still I doubt I'll be able to run it on DX9 since the rest of my specs may bottleneck it a bit.

Found this on GameFAQS, thought you guys might be interested. It's the music the other Stalkers play when they sit around the fire, put into 3 songs.

I've been following this game ever since it was announced. It looks really good. I'm gonna buy it sooner or later.

I got a question though I've looked at the recommended specs at Gamespot and it recommends Intel Core 2 duo E6400 1 gig RAM and Geforce 7900GS. Will I be able to run it on high with these specs:

Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with HT

1.25 RAM

XFX geforce 6800XT- 256mb GDDR3 256bit(mem)(128bit GPU) with these features:

  • high precision dynamic range
  • ultrashadow 2
  • intellisample 3.0
  • supports HD
  • DX 9.0c of course tounge.gif
