Vice City vs. San Andreas

Recommended Posts

But how come can you compare a series of games released by the same company over a period of 3 years??? It is only natural for the company to surpass their previously attained record by coming out with something more innovative and breathtaking with each successive game. Of course that generally holds true for the sales figure as well rolleyes.gif

I think most of us appreciate every GTA for what each one offers uniquely; the gist of this topic seems to be that Vice has the best storyline and it's one that a lot of us have gone back to play through all over again.

Each GTA since III has run on the same engine and has had largely the same formula (if different settings) and some new abilities here and there. I think comparisons are fair, especially when you consider elements of Vice that are not in SA.

I just completed Vice City (again) today, and I must say I very much prefer Vice City to San Andreas. VC has some way coolers characters (and an even better voice cast), the city itself is cooler than most of San Andreas (Maybe with the exception of Las Venturas), the story is more interesting, and so on and so forth. San Andreas brought a lot of nice features, but nothing that I missed when playing through Vice once again.

I completely agree! Liberty City had that gloomy urban feel to it, that rocked! Vice City had soul, that 80's feel and you couldt help falling in love with it! SA might have more features, but has no soul at all, just a brownish beige and a caracter going "handover them duggets" and stuff like that all the time suicidal.gif

As a city, Vice is the best, then comes Liberty and the SA cities can fight over who gets in third, i dont care. I haven't even bothered to complete SA yet, i just get tired of it..... But dude its like realy kewl that u can date and fly a jet pack and sh*t!!1!!!!!!111!!! Or not... Point is, no new features in SA make up for the sh*tty settings, sorry to say R*

perhaps it's just me, but i never found VC's storyline to be that interesting...for me, all three gmes in the series have had flimsy storylines, and if i had to take a pick, i'd choose SA...

however, i must confess that VC had a lot of style, and SA missed an opportunity with LV, which could've been much better...

the only reason i'd choose SA over VC, however, would be because i felt that the controls in SA were a lot sharper and tighter than in the previous games...

all of this is my opinion though...i wouldn't really want to compare the games in the series anyhow...

If the maps were the same size defiantly vice city. More melee weapons + better characters

Tomy Vercetti is more of a PSYCO, and I do appriciate that....CJ is younger and the story of his experience building points are mostly in GTA SA with a litttle left behind in LS, so they are difficult to compare without becoming self referential....I like them both and would like the Vice City to be larger with more to do....GTA VC had less headaches to worry about but less area to play in so it evens out by degree. Which part of the pinacolada do I like better the pinapple or coconut? The alcohol is the same either way!....I don't drink at all anymore and the Analogy is sloppy but fitting IMHO.

3:vice city it rocks but i think that it should have had better storyline and better textures

Whats wrong with you, are you on carck the story in VC is awesome thats the main reason i like it better then SA, and plus VC taxi missions are fun, easy, and really easy to get money, i got $25,000 in 1 hour just using a taxi and it was the same taxi the whole way it was a Kaufman Cab. The cars don't catch on fire as easy aswell thats really good for taxi missions, but the Infernus does.

You get much more power in VC such as more assets and tons of safehouses. That is why I like VC more.

My vote would have to go to Vice City as it has a much better storyline and the overall gameplay was a lot of fun - a true classic! tounge.gif

Unfortunatelly, as much as I want to like San Andreas, Rockstar really screwed up in terms of gameplay and technical details:

The PC port is one of the buggiest ports I've ever seen (lots of people complained about performance issues, crashes, audio glitches, etc) It saddens me to say this after the brilliant port that Vice City was...

Gameplay:

- it takes longer to hijack a car. When you're in a hurry you just want CJ to pull out the driver and get in the car.

- driving is a pain, especially when turning, due to poor camera.

- at high speed the traffic AI is just bizarre, cars get in your way all the time, they crash too much.

- selecting clothes is tedious, each time CJ dresses something you have to wait for him to get in and out. Sure it's realistic, but boring.

There are more things but these, I think, top the list of what went wrong since VC. It's too bad, because it did ruin the gameplay. I think everyone agrees that Vice City's gameplay is better.

The good things about SA are a lot more features, swimming, and of course, a huge and diverse map to explore that puts Vice City to shame.

Still, VC was the GTA that grabbed my attention the most, after III. San Andreas, even though with an impressive map, was a step back in terms of gameplay.

Wrong.

There is exactly the same amount of melee weapons in VC as there is in SA, if not MORE in SA (The Cane).

Anyway, I choose VC, more authentic IMO icon14.gif

Vice City just has a better feel to the city than San Andreas. Vice City's storyline was great but San Andreas' was a little confusing and f*cked up overall.

VC: about as big as you could make the setting before the colors begin to get

washed out.

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6255/00...screen8a8du.jpg

In SA the lead character can swim, now that there's a big sea bed with

nothing to see down there.

Consideration for size: VC can use the LC mod.

GTAs are getting less crazy and surreal and distinctive and more ordinary

for the mass market as they go along.

VC: better feel to the vehicle physics and camera angles, including for re-

plays and Unique Jumps.

VC PCJ 600 driving and stunts are the coolest thing GTA has come up with, but most people

give up trying to do them before they get good at them and can enjoy it. If

they got into it, it would be more rewarding for replay value than a lot of

clothes and such. Most people want a GTA big and aren't cycle people. SA is

the more commercial result.

I like all of them, but like VC better. The new game engine could turn it around.

So you want so 60 year old flabby titted governor to run around spouting shîte in that awful accent of his?

No thank you

Tommy Vercetti is an awesome character, and Ray Liotta played him very well.

The only thing I would change about Vice City is getting rid of the "Welcome to Vice City" loading screens when you cross between islands.

doubleprosh86: Take another look at your post, edit it, then post it again properly. This is not IRC, an instant message or an SMS text.

For the board - Although I prefer GTA3 for the overall gameplay experience, I'd say Vice City over San Andreas. No second thought. You can't even fly a plane properly in SA thanks to its crappy controller support. I'm a person to say keyboards are for typing and not gaming.

I really didn't think too much of tommy vercetti, his character is too commercial. Vercetti is way too similar to tony montana. I thought san andreas was way better. colgate.gif

I might be a little late on the bandwagon for this thread but I'll still give my two cents.

Vice City is my favorite game. It's Miami Vice theme was what sold it for me. The characters were interesting and the plot was interesting and twisting enough to keep you interested. The vehicles were fun to drive and when you were done with the storyline, you could spend time taking over property and various other interesting things. The map wasn't too big, nor was it too small. No matter what happens to the gaming industry I will always come back and play Vice City every now and then. I love it that much.

San Andreas is still a good game. The map is insanely huge, the characters are interesting, and the plot isn't bad at all. The reason I perfer Vice City over SA is the fact that SA is too big for my taste. I love exploring the large grasslands in San Fierro and crusing down the strip in Las Venturas, but that's the only thing that keeps me coming back - exploring new things. When doing some of the later missions in the game you need to travel almost across the entire map to get to your destination -- not my kind of thing. But still, don't get me wrong, San Andreas is a great game and I will still play it every now and then. But that's why I believe Vice City is better than San Andreas - it's all about fun, not being overwhelmed by the massive map.

I'd also like to bring up the fact that San Andreas did have more of a gang feel to it. Not gang as in O.G., gang as in a crew working together and taking over. I could only smile during the cutscenes for Doberman and Reuniting the Families. The way the characters progress and the way Grove Street unites is what I love about the game.

Since the original GTA SA and then Vice city were my next two GTA ports of call. They are quite different games (I completed SA before buying Vice City), going from SA to VC is odd, especially without swimming when trying to get into/out of boats. I like VC and I liked SA. VC might just pip it for me (32% done on VC).

One question, as I don't think it's worth opening a whole thread on it.

Obviously in SA it's fairly easy to fly planes, on Vice City can you only fly that sea plane that only spawns after Dildo Dodo? There's no other planes available earlier on to improve your flying rating?
