The list goes like this:

1.GTA 3 or GTA IV(haven't played IV yet, but I think it will top GTA 3)

2.Vice City and SA(cant decide, VC has best music and mood but GTA SA had a freakin good story, various missions)

3.GTA I or II

IMO GTA III can't touch GTA IV in any way. GTA III is a classic, but you can see how incredibly outdated it is compared to GTA IV.

So many small things in GTA IV make it so much better, and not because it's current gen either.

Things like the cover system, swimming, climbing, bailing from cars, 360 degree weapon rotation from vehicles etc.

I played all gtas without 4.

On Psp is Liberty City much better, on PC or PS2 its Vice City.

San Andreas is good for playing like Rpg, but the charme from VC is legendary.

I dont know why, mabye the past time or no vercetti, but i hate the VC Stories. On Psp is LCS the best game i ever played.

and another pro for vc on pc: the mods, hell you can all do what u want, i used for tommy selfdone voice.waves. in game thats sounds fantastic.

I liked VCS too...if they'd made the original VC like that, I would've been that much happier. I hope they hear me and give VC a freshening up; you can't say you wouldn't enjoy the game!

i think san andreas is better, it was more comprehensive... vice city is beautiful but san andreas is big and u always found new things. id give 8,5 points to vice city and 9 oder 9,5 to san andreas!

both of the games are very nice, i think great of them!

SA all the way, Three Cities, Tonnes of gangs, Shops and Full of customization.

Vice City looks lovely and sunny and Multiplayer is loads of fun but I'm more interested into SA

Please Rockstar Release a GTA IV DEMO for PC users

GTA San Andreas. there is no doubt. I agreed.

It's kinda pointless to start such a discussion in a forum dedicated to VC, don't you think? wink.gif

Anyway, even though I was amazed at first with SA (bigger map, lots of things to do etc. - I think that there are places I have never visited in the game!), Vice City just exhudes nostalgia and personality.

Mind you, my favourite is still GTA III - ah, the good old days... smile.gif

when you say nostalgic do you mean the 80's theme or nostalgic of the times in the past when you actually played the game?

OK, all the guys I talk to about VC always say San Andreas is much better. I don't see it. Sure, SA is much bigger, better and more expansive but I say that doesn't make it a better game. It's the mood and the characters. I felt at home in Vice when i first settled down because it's kindov bright and cheery and you can get all this really cool stuff early on like sports cars, weapons and stuff like that. In SA i felt like I was in a very boring dark colourless hell. I'm not denying that SA is a good game at all, I love it, I just don't like people telling me more features make a better game.

What do you think? confused.gif

i agree with you a 100%. believe it or not, setting is a big part of how enjoyable a game is, and vice city was just great. but san andreas was colorless and kind of depressing. that is why i am hoping the next gta game is in vice city but remade like they did liberty city for gta 4.

I dont think its really fair to compare the two.

Heres the rundown of it. If you like Hip-Hop a whole lot, you will probably like San Andreas a lot too.

If you've never grown up with Hip-Hop and your taste of Hip-Hop doesnt exceed Coolio's Gangster's Paradise, then you probably identify with the hip white-guyedness of Vice City.

But if you're like me and not only love Hip-Hop but the 80s as well, then you come to see that both really cater to two different audiences exceptionally well.

As a game, San Andreas is a lot more developed than Vice City(not including story which are equal products of their setting). Its just a fact, particularly because its had its predecessors to improve upon.

If I had to choose one, I would choose San Andreas. When I first played San Andreas I was like UGH, the ghetto. Having been born in the late 80s ghetto of the Queens the ghetto isnt some place i'd like to return to. But after playign through San Andreas I ended up loving how smart CJ was and how well he could switch up the hustle and elevate his game, making friends with geeks and Woozie and ending up taking over a whole city from modest beginnings.

Plus basejumping ftw.

Awesome post, man.

As a GTA maniac, I like both games(San Andreas a little more because of the setting and the music).

GTA 3 and Vice City > San Andreas here. In SA it's too easy to get killed by exploding cars; CJ simply does not know how to get out of the burning car and run straight away! In fact, health is my number one thing against the game - even on a 100% save he still ends up wasted in seconds with 3+ stars. The transition to a health bar is another annoying part of SA and later games, which replaced the good old number system. Leave the health bars to fighting games; I'd rather know that I 'pwned' a dozen FBI agents on 4 health than with a magical flashing dark red bar! Same with anyone who might play FPS games or even World of Warcraft (ugh!).

I personally prefer health bars to health number from GTA3/VC. DukesTogo speaks the truth as well, the reason number one SA will always be my fav GTA is because I love hip hop.

I actually prefer the health numbers over a bar as well...numbers took up less space and was less RPG/FPS like- even tho this game has elements of the former and well, is very similar to the latter.

Yeah I liked the numbers too. It's more accurate, and it lets you know how long you have before you die. With the health bar it's sort of a guess.

Changed my mind guys.

SA is better. Wayyyy more stuff to do. And the story isn't that bad.

It's my favourite GTA game of all time.

Probably the best answer. I still like playing both, and they out do eachother in areas, but I still go with VC.

I know SA has more to do, but VC just has this "flair" about it.

Someone said the setting, and feeling has alot to do with how enjoyable a game is, and I agree.

Going to VC after the cold, and souless GTA III was like going on a holiday, and that's why I love it. SA on the other hand doesn't know what it wants to be. I admit I felt cheerful when I visited LV, but other than that it felt like GTA III in alot of ways.

VC is just one of those games I can play whenever I'm in a happy mood, or a sh*tty one. Plus IMO Tommy is such a better character to play than CJ. I just love Tommy's slick, and "leader" type of attitude. CJ is a more realistic character in the sense that he has feelings, but I love how Tommy is all about business, with no ties to family, or friends.

Another reason why I like VC more is I think the ending of VC is way better than SA's. At the end of VC you get a sense of being on top of the world after the Scarface type shootout, and finally getting rid of Sonny. In SA it just felt very anti-climatic. I mean you don't even get to kill Tennpenny yourself.

San Andreas seemed like an experimental game to me. Like Rockstar had a buttload of ideas for what should be in a sandbox game so they just went nuts with all these new features. I enjoyed the planes, playing the highways. The story wasn't too entertaining and I actually only played it once. I played III and Vice over numerous times. I also didn't like the scope of the map. It was a sight to see at first. So amazing. Problem was they didn't have enough missions to really cover the entire map. In III and Vice you can always look at a part of the map and remember a memorable mission that once took place. Vice City had so much glamor, it felt like playing in an episode of Miami Vice. Really Cool. So I'd say Vice City was much better for style and story, but San Andreas was more fun for chases and stunts.

Yeah it seems like they got cocky after the success of GTA III, and VC, and just went totally overboard with SA. I mean SA is one of the best games I have on PS2, but I strongly feel GTA III, and VC are truer GTAs.

I don't know I just like their simplicity, rather than relying on features or pure size for the best gaming experience possible. There's nothing wrong with features, but when you look back to every GTA before SA they were simple yet still fun.

Once I get 100% on LCS (which is VERY SOON with 1 package remaining) I will try get 100% for VC and III. Then I can say which one felt more fun to get (SA vs VC). SA had too many boring collectibles that got on my nerves and took ages to get together, but VC has just the packages and they mostly appear in obvious places.

I got 100% in SA (without cheats). Never again, it took me approx a month of a lot of playing.

I have got 100% in IV, SA, VC, LCS. But not III (some missions I just couldn't do) or VCS, because I just didn't enjoy it enough to play it to 100%

I have got SA 100% without cheats and I'm one package away from 100% for LCS now, without cheats as well. I finished VCS to this achievement with cheats (might do it without) then I'll try VC and III. Then I'll get GTA4 on PC and finish it too!

Neither am I interested in 100% for SA again, I love the game and all but it took me sh*tLOADS of time to get everything in order, such as traveling from Las Venturas to San Fierro for my next set of side-missions.

I've never really pushed myself to gain 100% in any GTA. Sure I like collecting the packages/horseshoes/oysters etc, but I would rather fill my time in doing something else.

I think this thread has run its course-- it is not VC specific so wasn't crazy about it to begin with.

You can debate the different GTAs in the Gaming chat section if you want... just not here.

If someone wants me to move this to that section... let me know and I will unlock it and move it...

Otherwise... I'm calling it... Time of death: 1:03 PM EDT 15 Dec 2008
