Vice City vs. San Andreas

Recommended Posts

SonOfLiberty

San Andreas, I loved it, I beat it many times. But Vice City beats it, just because I didn't like the storyline of San Andreas, it just seemed to unrealistic (and I understand that GTA isn't a 'realistic' game, but the storyline just wasn't there for me). But I did love san Andreas, for the simple fact it got bigger and more sh*t was to do.

Gotta agree with that.

SA had a farfetched storyline IMO.

VC, and III for that matter were down to earth I think.

It just seems SA had too much of everything crammed in, making it too unbelievable.

I just hope IV isn't like SA's storyline. Where R* just threw in random elements, and created a storyline which ultimately made no sense for the most part.

VC FTW.

For me personally, this game is what really drew me into the GTA world. I mean, I played the original on PC years ago but wasn't too enthused with the top down view and toon graphics (I was playin Driver on PS1 at the time and thought THAT was the defining game for that system); then I was intro'd to III which I absolutely loved, but never felt it was any sort of representation of NYC like some had claimed.

VC being set in the 80s, is the era I grew up in so if you did too, you know what I'm talking about. The soundtrack was well chosen and well done; it not only set the mood for the game, but it took me back to that time...I spent more time driving around waxing nostalgic than anything else. It was the ultimate virtual getaway spot! Everyone's corrupt, cops on the take, drug dealers rubbing elbows with government officials, everyone's in bed w/everyone else- it was a good time to be bad.

SA was a masterpiece in its own right, but did not evoke the same sentiment in me that VC did...in fact, I found myself NOT sympathizing with GSF or CJ in particular; it didn't stop me from enjoying the f*ck outta that game with all that you could do with it (God, how many times did I wish the Hydra had been in VC? LOL) but all in all, to me, VC was the superior game.

As I've said many times before, I sincerely hope and pray VC gets a nextgen treatment...oh man wouldn't THAT be vicious???

Probably I like San Andreas in every aspect, specially the storyline, I hate drugs and GSF against it so CJ > Tommy. Other than that, San Andreas had the better music and more things to do as well. I'm still wondering how people can choose VC over SA.

And in VC they didn't even now a good way to Lance backstabbing you. He just changed side and revealed the real money's location. He just did it without a good reason but that they couldn't think of a better way to make it more challenging.

wtf ? i agree that SA owns VC but yo man, dealing drugs is component of a quality GTA game.just like stealing cars. crooked cops, awesome swearing and prostitutes,i wish that it would' ve been possible to make REAL drug deals in GTAIII,VC and SA,like you got drugs and you meet up with the suppliers and ' you got the money?' 'you got the stuff ?' thing, nah i mean ? not just driving around in some cheap ass ice cream truck, like sometimes you need big cash quick and there is no other way to get it than using cheats and it sucked that CJ couldn't smoke weed and drink booze like the gang members in game,at least Tommy had a cigar

For me, again, it's because the background of the storyline missions were awful. First, CJ helps out Grove Street, then he does to a completely different atmosphere in the countryside, after he mainly works with the Triads, and then it's back to Grove Street. In every other GTA, all parts of the storyline was same in a sense but San Andreas' was way too confusing.

Yeah because he was setup and his brother in jail. His gang is way too weak to continue the fight with his partners betraying him.

So he works in business till some government comes and promises him to release Sweet if he works for him.

Everyone has their own opinion. Yourself included.

Some people choose III over SA. Is that wrong? confused.gif

I like all GTAs, but I like VC more. I don't care about features, and whatnot.

I'm still wondering how people can choose VC over SA.

Well lets see:

The atmosphere in San Andreas was horrible. It gave me a headache. Vice Citys atmosphere was clean, memorable, and great. San Andreas just didn't have the magical "GTA feel" to it as the past games did. GTA3 was epic in every way, Vice City just as much. But San Andreas just kinda took a step sideways rather than a step forward in terms of atmosphere.

I also thought SA's soundtrack was pretty weak. It was nowhere near as memorable and exciting as III and VC's. SA was also plagued with this "gangsta" bullsh*t. I hope Rockstar never, ever, ever, ever does that again. Oh god.

Yeah, SA was bigger, and had more stuff to do in it. But I constantly found myself going back to VC and III. SA just didn't float my boat I guess.

Well my PS2 memory will have to say that over 52 hours of gameplay in a week for San Andreas must mean that it is good.

I like Vice City but the missions and story line isn't as good as San Andreas. In my games I love gangsta sh*t, mafia sh*t too but not as much as gangsta sh*t!

That's what made SA 100000000000000000000...to be continued times better than VC IMO.

Vice City was a classic and always will be, but to me SA struck my gangter side and reflected real life more, with exceptions to jet packs. smile.gif

SA also had the modern updated abilities such as jumping over fences and a wider range of vehicles, in VC, however, you had a linear storyline without the ability to jump on top of houses and fire RPG's lol.gif

Yes, but bicycles sucked.

And its graphics made VC.

III's plain sucked, SA's looked like they were renders (And all of the vehicles lost their individuality), and VCS and LCS are laughable, as they didn't change a thing.

Sorry. I couldn't help you saying that SA has the better Storyline and characters when in SA those are it's two major weak points.

But yes. I guess everybody has their own opinion.

Oh, you can do drive-by's in VC to. You can also make your character crouch with the R3 button  cool.gif

I know but you can't move crouching, like when you put target on he crouches in some gangsta way. Whatever, I like the storyline alot in SA and also the characters, Ryder owns.

Who cares if you can't do the EXACT same things.

I know for a fact that when people are asked, "Which GTA do you remember most" or "Which GTA game has the best atmosphere", 9 times out of 10 the awnser will most definently be VC.

IMO, Vice City was better. The atmosphere was perfect, the sun, the beach, the neon lights... San Andreas was a bit messed up, the weather effects were horrible, and the sounds were messed up. It didn't feel right, it felt.....hollow.

I still think San Andreas is better. I was a little disappointed with VC For some when it came out, not as good as I thought it was. But I just love SA So much, Nothing sucks in SA Imo. Everything is great, and I just enjoyed it a lot more then Vice City. And I get bored of VC Really quick for some reason.

Probably the only thing I like more in Vice City is just the atmosphere and sunny feeling. Takes me straight to a nice summer.

And I like the gangsta thing much much much more than Mafia though both are exciting.

Big mistake asking this question to BIASED VC fans. The fact is, ALL of them are great, for specific reasons.

I like III for the dark, morbid, and urban feeling when playing. It also has a good map

(Portland FTW) and the simplistic playing of the game made it an obsession.

VC has good atmostphere, sunny warm skies, riding on angel with the wind blowing. The story was good as well, but a bit short. VC was the first GTA I actually played so it's fav all th way.

SA brought those two together. If you've disliked SA you probably don't like because the 90's gangbanging era. Why I say this is because of all the new features, easter eggs, missions it applies to you. There's too much good things to call it bad.

You're not even a GTA fan if you've only liked one. tounge2.gif

For storyline, Vice City by far. The replay value of VC is already exemplary because of the free-roaming environment that's long been a staple of the GTA franchise, but the feeling of starting a new game and being the new guy on the block having to build himself up from nothing just makes me keep coming back to it more than any other GTA title.

Now, when I feel like going on a rampage, it's either GTA3 or San Andreas. If I feel like being pursued by legions of policemen in an exciting car chase, GTA3 is the game for me. If I want to take to the sky in vertical jet and blow the crap out of anything that even comes within a mile of me, it's all about San An. Love that Hydra. inlove.gif

Well written and succinct, I could not have done better nor agreed more. icon14.gif

Vice City all the way. To address this statement:

lloydo- SA also had the modern updated abilities such as jumping over fences and a wider range of vehicles, in VC, however, you had a linear storyline without the ability to jump on top of houses and fire RPG's

I have to disagree with you there, man. One of the safehouses you acquire during the course of VC is El Swanko Casa. Do you remember it? Well, one of my favorite pastimes was to hop up onto the roof and fire RPG's at the pursuing police - which included boats as well as helis since the waterway was but a short distance away. You could get to it by running up the stairs and head right, jump up onto the sill and then hop onto the roof. The roof had some room to it allowing you to run back and forth where you could cover the back street as well as the ones to the side and front. If you have never done it, try it- especially if you have a RL with a lot of ammo...talk about good times.

I just got all nostalgic and am really sorry that I let my PS2 and games go. VC was the first of my five most favorite games on the PS2.
