In other news of my hip hop listening, I listened to Lupe Fiasco's The Cool. Overall I wasn't too impressed

Really? I think it's a pretty awesome album. I wasn't expecting too much from it but I think hes done really well. Probably one of my favourite albums that were released this year. (sh*t, I forgot it's 2008) last year. tounge.gif

Anyway, did anybody check out the group I recommended on the last page? Here it is again. They're called Rhyme Asylum from London and I think they're pretty dope. Got a LP coming up soon featuring Vinnie Paz. Give them a listen.

So,Just wondering and all, whats everyones view on Eminem?

I really like Eminem, as a matter of fact, he's my favorite rapper (now). Back then it used to be Dre.

He's suppose to be making a new album, with just him. But of course Dre is producing it.

Yeah I checked out the new Lupe Fiasco album and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely something refreshing in my opinion.

lupe fiasco makes kanye west look like a blood

Is that a bad thing? I don't think he's particularly going for any sort of "gangster" image. I think the music is refreshing because some of the songs are a throw back to when rap was more positive, not to mention that the lyrics actually have some meaning. confused.gif

<snip>

.. Lyrics ain't everything.

k.

Neither are beats..but take one of them in particular away, hip hop would be dead.

No, y'see that's where you're wrong mate - Hip-hop needs zero singing; zero words; zero rapping; zero lyrics.

To be honest that was a pretty brash statement on my part, considering hip hops roots, take it more as a personal opinion. I find hip hop listening a very personal thing...its like getting a lyrical "fix" so to speak...plus most hip hop jams I go to just end up in aggressive posturing and the resulting chaos, which is as far away as you can get from hip hops origins.

Im sure i had summin else to say..ill edit when i remember.

When it comes to Hip-Hop beats aren't everything, neither is emceeing, B-boying, DJing, graffiti, and everything else that's part of Hip-Hop. Only when it comes together is it everything, a track that's just a beat is still Hip-Hop, and is still good, even if it doesn't have any lyrics, same thing with an acapella, lyrics without a beat, it's still Hip-Hop, but neither one conglomerates everything. Hip-Hop is so much, it doesn't need everything to be great, and it's hard, if not impossible to fit everything into a single track. But in the end it's all Hip-Hop and that's all that really matters.

Never paid much attention to Killah Priest, pondering on his first album. Love this track:

Just heard Porcelain and damn it's a good song, and Velocity. Is Tonedeff officially the fastest rapper in the world? I can't imagine anyone getting much faster than that to be honest.

I couldn;t find any Tonedeff in my local music 'store' so i may need some HELP to find any of his stuff?

Listened to Lupe's Cool again, this time a much longer session. I'll have to revoke my first statement on the album, because if you take away the garbage tracks (Paris, Tokyo; that Snoop track), it feels a lot more streamlined. Hip-Hop Saved My Life is oddly similiar to Hurt Me Soul from his last album. It's one of the best mainstream albums of '07, along with Bone's album.

I'll be bumpin' this on my iPod along with Tonedeff for the rest of the week.

Amazon ahve Archetype but it's out of stock. Could be ages before they bother restocking it for all i know. I'll keep an eye on it so thanks for that icon14.gif

Just got 'Dirty Acres' from Cunninlynguists. There's definitely a change in it compared to 'Will Rap For Food' and 'A Piece of Strange' but it still awesome.

Regarding the fastest rapper. I think there's a huge difference between being able to rap fast and rapping so fast that all you hear is 'dddddddddddddddddddddddd' and the rest of the word could be bloody anything. Don;t see why it would be so great being the worlds fastest if no one can understand what you're saying tounge.gif

There's a video on Youtube somewhere of some guy who raps the Decloration of Independance, then it was played it slow mo and i could only make out about one word from what was written down. I'll find it.

Oh come on, there isn't a single word in that when slowed down, its just a load of babbling.

The fastest rapper is a guy called Outsider from South Korea last I heard.

I may sound contradicting, but i agree with that. I couldnt really make out anything from it, not even when slowed down.

Fast babbling though, i'll give him that haha.

Amazon has pretty much everything, get Archetype before you go for his other albums.

Twista is officially the world's fastest rapper, and I can see why, his older sh*t like Mistah Tongue Twista is crazy as hell.

Only person f*ckin wit him is Crazy Bone, but I dont know where da hell dude at.

I concur.

I mean, yes, he does say it fast, but so fast that the words don't form properly. whatsthat.gif

Busta Rhymes is the only fast rapper who I can really understand, so kudos for him.

Yeh he is really underestimated. Unorthodox, but very very good.

Yup, I liked his style when he was startin' out with A Tribe Called Quest and I still enjoy and like his style now-a-days.

Dylan, what makes you think Busta was in A Tribe Called Quest? That Hip-Hop honors awards deal, or what, because those were only covers of the original tracks.

BTW, you should hop on MSN occasionally man, long time no talk.

ryuclan, lol, no it is a inside joke from a while back.

Listened to Tonedeff, I really like his style. He is like Busta, can rap with a fast pace and I can understand every word. I like Porcelian(sp?), very good track.
