Any fans of Denzel Curry? I didn't even know he had an album due, just had a sly listen.

I'm not sure how I feel about it at the moment. I'll have to give it my full attention later in the week.

The Odyssey

Did anyone listen to the new Travis Scott? While there are a few questionable features (Drake bragging about taking Xanax on a plane was laughable and NAV should have just been excluded completely) but overall I was quite pleased, espciially after coming out of Birds In The Trap somewhat disappointed.

That's all it is. Serious rap and has been functionally dead for like 10 years at least. And the same can be said for rock and roll. Everything is just pop music now. The only new rap I can stand are the likes of Run the Jewels and Kendrick Lamar, etc. The mainstream hip hop community has totally sold out otherwise. I miss the day when lyrics and flow and social awareness were still king...

Like you said, that is how I feel, too.  Someone shows me a 3 Minute song (new Rap) and it's mostly just "noise" to me with some spoken words that "rhyme" but there is no flow or direction.  Meanwhile, I can post a song like this, and these legends just never stop.  Constantly spitting rhymes with 100% flow and never slowing down.  Blows any new trash out of the water in a heart beat.

From 1996 (It Was Written)

I could of posted something from Illmatic (1994) but then again, who hasn't heard songs like N.Y. State of Mind?

There's Rap by Immortal Technique that I like from 2001-2002...But other than that?  Rap hasn't been here in 16 years lol

To be fair, it's not just about the time period. There was bad rap alongside Tupac. There's great rap today. The issue, like so many things, is that the majority of the so-called "artists" sold out their authenticity to buy a mainstream image... so that they can hang out at awards shows and red carpets and be followed around by TMZ and do Pepsi Cola commercials. Same could be said for rock and roll. Hip hop still has a real voice, the likes of Kendrick and even the efforts of Childish Gambino, but it's often lost in the great sea of fame-seekers who are only in it for the money.

There's still amazing hip hop to be found, it's just harder to find.

Are Aesop Rocky and ASAP Rocky the same person?

Big Daddy Kane always has and always will be one of my favorite artists coming out of the 80's!

What do you all think of grime? I think it's better than all the mumble rap coming out of America anyway, but it kinda faded away a bit it seems, it isn't as big as was in 2016.

I like only one Grime song. Bow E3 by Wiley:

Other than that, Grime is trash (From what I've heard, which isn't much).

So, I've been listening to Cannibal OX's Hip Hop classic Iron Galaxy (1999). They really only had that album then disappeared until they released another album in 2013. They were with El-P of Run The Jewel's label back in the day. El-P even produced Iron Galaxy. Was watching this doc on Cannibal OX and El-P is in it, playing none-other than GTA III mothaf*ckas!

You can see him playing GTA III at the start (well, his buddy) but skip to around 8.23 and you see them (and Aesop Rock) actually playing it with some commentary of the current state of affairs in New York City. Remember those towers came down just a year before and there was tension in the air among New Yorkers.

Also, listen to that album. It's amazing...

Haha you can see a poster of The Big Picture by Big L in the room shortly after the GTA 3 part. Released in 2000. These guys knew what was up.

Jerking For Soup

Glad Kid Cudi is actually making amazing music again. I wasn't too much of a huge fan of SBTH, but I adored both MOTM & MOTM2. It was a stroke of genius to make Kids See Ghosts.

Kanye also has been questionable. Ye pales in comparison to TLOP and MBDTF, but it still shines brighter than anything Drake or Future has put out.

Saying that, I'm not even gonna dare listen a second to Scorpion. I was never a fan of Drake but I've lost all respect for him after seeing all the Spotify playlists they've inserted his cringey picture onto the cover of and hearing his album consists of 20-something wack tracks.

It's f*cking amazing man. I'm so proud of him. The Revival backlash was the fire he needed. He's back giving his 110%. It's definetly his best work since the classic days, if not equally good.

I actually paid for it.

Far from in my opinion.

I feel like it works well enough as an apology for Revival, but the end result still feels rushed. And the disses were pretty piss poor as well. Why did he go after Tyler The Creator when Tyler dropped one of the best albums of 2017 while Eminem dropped one of the worst? Why call an openly gay man a fa**ot and pass it off as a diss? I understand It's Shady's thing to stir up controversy but it came across as a low hanging fruit tbh.

Idk it's kinda funny to see the media freak out over it.

"ohhhhh nooooo it's 2018 and he just said fa**ot how DARE he"

it's a decent album compared to Revival, but still has some major flaws every now and then, i wouldn't really call it AOTY - think that would probably go to Kids See Ghosts in my opinion.

yeah ksg is still my rap aoty.

i dont have a problem with em saying fa**ot, he's done it in the past before, but using it against tyler who came out as gay last year and then trying to pass it off as a diss seems kinda... off. like theres a fine line between stirring the pot an just being a c*nt.

RIP to Mac. one of the greats as far as young rappers go.  He should've done more songs with Earl Sweatshirt.

But kells the day you put out a hit, is The day P-diddy adimts that he got Tupac killed..."Straigit fire!

keeping pacs Legacy alive by playing his timeless tracks that unfortunately are still relevant today. 22 years yesterday...

Changes seems like a well known song by many but damn how relevant the track still is...
