Well, today's the day. Have you given a listen to it yet?

 

I didn't even know there was a new Cole album on the way until I saw it on my social feeds this morning. Maybe I just missed all the promotion or it really was a lowkey drop.

 

I seem to remember 'Forest Hills Drive' feeling like it came out of nowhere as well. Holy f*ck that was a good album.

 

I'm excited for this. Going to start giving '4 Your Eyez Only' a play now. I haven't heard a single track from it yet.

Seconded; Havoc was ON FIRE when he produced the beats on that album.

 

 

Anyway, I've been a huge hip-hop fan ever since around '08. I mostly listen to older stuff (especially the '90s), but there's been a lot of great stuff in the '00s and '10s, too. If I were to list my favorite songs, artists, albums, etc., I'd be here for days, but for now I'll just say that Moment of Truth by Gang Starr is probably my favorite album of all time, with the title song being my favorite song. Guru's excellent lyricism combined with DJ Premier's freaking incredible, beautiful production makes for one hell of a listen.

Just rediscovered this gem a couple days ago:

 

 

 

All the verses are so crazy (Chubb Rock's is my favorite), and that beat... god, that beat is amazing. Easily one of DJ Premier's best.

 

Really, if I could add just a single song to GTA IV's radio, it would be this one. Yeah they name-drop Brooklyn all over it (and name-dropping real locations in songs has never been a dealbreaker for GTA soundtracks anyway. "California Soul", anyone?), but this would fit that LC atmosphere like a glove.
