Was probably 12 or 13, commented on how I liked the vocals on Clint Eastwood, so my brother put on Deltron 3030. Probably the first time I genuinely enjoyed a hip hop track.

Um, how about everyone tell how they found and got into hip-hop.

I got into Hip Hop some time about 6 years ago. I were 12-13. I heard a song from a G-Unit mixtape (I don't remember which) in a friend's house and I just loved the gangsta theme to it. Later, I fell in love with Em's songs, especially the 'Lose Yourself'. It just gave me energy.

The first complete album I listened, was '2001' by Dre.

I have a professor that played that album and the Chronic all the time in class, I miss having him.

What are you studying? The art of Gangsta Rap?

Bought the snoop dogg album rhythm and gangster in London as a kid because he looked cool, he delivered.

A classic album.

I think hip hop was slowly engrained into me. It found a way of always being around me as I was growing up without me knowing that 'Hip Hop' was a word. Someone in Year 4 at school was real good at drawing the Gorillaz characters, my mum had their first album, I really digged Will Smith - I Think I have 'Willennium' still - and my mum also bought 'Speakerboxx/The Love Below'. This was at the time in life when you simply consume the chart music before developing a preference.

The first time I actually became aware of liking hip hop was around 2000/2001. I would have been 9/10 years old and it was Eminem. I think 'MMLP' must have just dropped because I spent so much time on Limewire downloading any Eminem I could find, and tracks from that album always came up first. Then I spent ages burning them onto a couple CDs. I must've had 'SSLP' and 'MMLP' in a mixed up order but in full by the end of it. I was in awe of everything he was saying, and 'Kim' blew my impressionable little mind. It was the perfect rebellion music to counter the Opera and Orchestral music my parents like, and I had to hide it all from my Dad.

My Mum allowed me to buy 'The Eminem Show' in 2002 and that was my musical taste figured out. 'Drips' blew my poor mind once again. I had that track on loop and made sure all my friends had heard it. And man, I know every single word on that album.

Believe it or not, it was a religion studies class.

Yeah I know, it surprised me too.

@Kippers, that was how I was with NWA - Straight Outta Compton. I lived in a "small" town with corrupt cops, and things of that nature while I lived in the US, so I could relate to a lot of the things they were saying.

So got a question, up for debate. What do you think is the lyrically best Notorious BIG song?

His delivery and story telling here is great, IMO. So hard to choose just one song, though. 'Victory' is another good one.

Like Keegeroo said, it's hard to pinpoint a specific one, his speed and delivery are really close together even between both albums.

Niggas Bleed

This is the tune I would have picked on first instinct.

I'm a very feeling, but mainly Audio influenced guy. I can hear the similarities reading that, the emotions connected, along with Pyroshox and his struggle with the Corrupt small town cops.

I think my choice on that album based on the cover was one of my only visual choices, like ever. After that I heard the strong emotions in the singers such as Nate Dogg and Charli Wilson. Not to forget Snoop himself and the emotional content and particularly the song bid'ness, and the classic Oh No with 50 cent had great intros with somewhat conversational traits. It really took me into it all and I haven't left since.

Just food for thought really.

In regards with biggie I really can't tell. I think Suicidal Thoughts, and even tracks that came out later like 1970 something and Nobody (forgive me if I got the title wrong it's been a while :p ).

Been listening to this track a bit over the last while. Love KRS's raps in this one. :^:

)

That's the dopest sh*t I've heard in a while.

Didn't Premier DJ the entire Classics radio station in GTAIV?

Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, that's him.. He's Gang Starrs DJ

That's right, I remember I used to like one of their songs a long time ago, but I can't remember it.

If you can find a bad GangStarr song then you're just wrong. Premier's DJ'ing is perfect and Guru's vocals almost make me want to bat for the other team. He was so smooth.

@Glenn: Yeah definitely, the emotions connected. At a time where I was looking to be anything but my parents, Eminem was just there at the right time being completely different to everyone else in the music industry. I'll be a loyal fan of his until the day he hangs up his Kangol cap. He was honestly the only hip hop artist I listened to for a good few years, because nothing else was matching him. I would have considered everything I enjoy now as really lame.

I think I then heard Em on Dre's 2001 and was introduced to Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Kurrupt etc etc. And then thanks to San Andreas, I recognised Dre on NWA; Ice Cube, Eazy E found my ears and it catapulted from there.

Probably one of my favourites of Prem's right there. His track record for memorable beats is incredible. I can't immediately think of a single bad Gang Starr beat. With that said:

The first single from the Prem/Royce duo PRhyme dropped:

PRHYME - Courtesy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFYbHfQimw8

Also, the full version of 'U Looz', which was first heard on the teaser video in the Vinyl record shop. (Even Premier drops a rhyme)

And the tracklist with features:

1. PRhyme

2. Dat Sound Good (feat. Ab-Soul & Mac Miller)

3. U Looz

4. You Should Know (feat. Dwele)

5. Courtesy

6. Wishin' (feat. Common)

7. To Me, To You (feat. Jay Electronica)

8. Underground Kings (feat. ScHoolboy Q & Killer Mike)

9. Microphone Preem (feat. Slaughterhouse)

Going to be an interesting project.

Wow, that Phryme track is brilliant.

@Pyroshox: Hmm... Best professor for rap-minded people like me!

@everyone: What's all this hype bout that overdone Lil Wayne work? Is it really gonna come out a nice product, i mean is it worth buying?

Some ym fans even say it will oversell shady xv!! :D

Wayne still makes music? damn... You'd think he'd be rich enough to not give a sh*t anymore

Whole that young money bullsh*t has f*cked the Hip-Hop's name up!

I just shame when i talk of Hip-Hop and people say "ya mean something like dicky minaj?"

I'm not mad on the auto tune sh*t. But nipseys my favourite rappers right now. He is 100% independent when he can and is an advid business man, along with this of course his traditional LA style and his experimentation, he's probably more inspiring then anything in them terms.

But I've went back to listening to him, and catching up on his progress.

Crates Of Gold

An artist I've been really into lately:

ODDISEE. I hadn't heard of him up until a few days ago, but I think he's amazing. He raps and produces.

Hmm... Logic has dropped his new album, and if you aren't a "only niggaz, f*ck white rap" enthausiast, it is really some good work, no matter which kind of rap he's doing, it is worth giving a listen. Check that out:
