Crates Of Gold

I wouldn't call myself primarily a hip hop and rap guy, but I do love a few particular artists within the genre. One I have really been getting into recently is the Flatbrush Zombies. What do you guys think of them?

When I heard this song, I was absolutely floored. It went on repeat so many times.

Have y'all heard the new G-Unit remix, "All about the drug money" by kidd kidd and Tony yayo?

@ Pyroshox, I love the G-funk sound. after San Andreas I really listenend to every album with that sound I could find. Unfortunately West coast artists nowadays use Trap beats or Souther rap style beats (I am no expert on who to call those styles, but it there definitely much less G-Funk beats now)

some lesser known songs I listenend to:

two German rap songs with g funk beat

I've been listening to some classics by Q-Tip (from A Tribe Called Quest) and came up with this:

Shamefully, I never heard "Breathe and Stop" before, a pretty nice song. However, Q-Tip's "abstract" style is really enjoying, one of the most talented rappers and producers ever, no doubt!

Talking of breathing-related songs, not sure if someone still remembers "Breathe" by Fabolous, I always liked it:

Also, how to not mention Blackstar and Common's "
".

Above the Law is the sh*t, RIP KMG!

German rap is pretty good, I really liked 90s German influenced Turkish rap. I always kinda thought how that German/Turkish thug life fit together politically, musically, and as a lifestyle in general.

Flatbush x MIA, surprisingly dope

That's dope. Flatbush have been impressing me.

I will say it every time G Funk is brought up; It's my favourite sound in the world. If I was having fun with a lady with a G Funk instrumental in the background I don't know what would happen.

Every time I hear the switch up at the end of Kendrick's 'Compton' I always wonder why that wasn't the instrumental for the whole tune, or at least a bit longer. He needs to channel more of that in his next project.

Been feeling the Pac vibes lately, 18 years dead. :(

I'm a huge fan of G Funk. Snoop Dogg, but Particularly the G-Chil a.k.a Warren G and Nate Dogg.

Just listened to that Q Tip, thats for introducing me to him properly hahaha. I really enjoyed that video too.

It sounds like you haven't listened to much Q-Tip? Is that Tip's work in general inc Tribe, or just solo work that you haven't listened to? I'd have to admit I've definitely heard less of his solo music. (Which having just looked up, is actually pretty limited)

This however is another great solo track. If you ever need to give a newbie a list of hip hoppers to check out, follow Q-Tip's suggestions.

Life is Better ft. Norah Jones

*Thanks.

Yeah I've only listened to a few of the tribes songs. I never would of listened to him had you guys not posted anything. That song is impressive.

You're welcome, Glenn., I'm glad you like it!

I haven't listened to much Q-Tip's solo work too, except for some songs he made with Mos Def (artist I love as you may noticed by my posts), such as "

" and "
". However, I know many songs by A Tribe Called Quest, one of my favourite ones is "
", so chill.

Talking of friends of Mos Def, I think Talib Kweli is a pretty awesome rapper, you can feel the passion in his songs. Here's "I Try" featuring Mary J. Blige:

There's a group that goes by the name of Binary Star. I think they are very underrated, I discovered them by pure coincidence, and I really like them. Here's one of their songs inspired by Maya Angelou's poem of the same name:

There's also "

", as well as other pretty nice songs such as "
", "
", "
", "
", and "
". All of the aforementioned tracks are taken from their 2000's album "
". They're debut album is the 1999's "Waterworld", while the last one they recorded is "Binary Star EP" in 2013. Enjoy listening! Edited by toxluv

Binary Star is dope! One of the most overlooked groups out there IMO. Reality Check is one of my favorite tracks

One Be Lo has some good solo sh*t, too

So this awesome hip hop collage was posted on the TRShady forums (It's a trashy forum but they're good at posting news) and well, it's f*cking awesome.

6f4d2a.jpg

Apparently, Ice Cube retweeted the artist's rendition of him, and then she decided to do a whole group drawing. She's selling the original for $2000, or copies for $150. It seems drawing hip hop stars is her thing

They've been trying to figure out who everyone is. I chimed in with the ones in bold, but still a whole bunch of don't knows. Anyone here know the faces?

Top row: (Don't Know), Drake, (Don't Know), Jadakiss, Kanye, Wayne, Fabolous, Game, (Don't know), Q-Tip
2nd row: Joey Badass, (Don't Know), Big Daddy Kane, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Busta Rhymes, Kendick, Slick Rick, Andre 3000, Mos Def J Cole, Tech N9ne
3rd row: Diddy, Rev Run, DMX, Ghostface Killah, Eazy-E, (Don't Know), Method Man, KRS ONE, Chuck D, (Don't Know)
4th row: Ll Cool J, Big Pun, 50, Biggie, Big L, Snoop, and T.I.
Bottom row: Ice Cube, Nas, Jay-Z, Tupac, Dre, Em

One of my friends at school had a whole wall in his room full with pictures of rappers from hip hop magazines and posters. It kinda looked like this but only bigger and in colour.

I remember when I visited him once, I said "in your room it does look like in an average American jail." (I was 15 or 16 at that time)

This group pic is the one I always see floating around

It just hit me that the first dude in the 2nd row is Joey Badass. Had to google to make sure and she referenced this pic:

I will figure them all out soon. I want to say that that's Raekwon top right between Game and Tip. Something about his jawline.. Any ideas?

Yeah he does quite a bit. Couldn't be 100% on that though.

The dude between Eazy and Meth. I'm trying to think of rappers with shaved heads. Madlib, Ja Rule, Freddie Gibbs, Inspectah Deck...I'm really at a loss on the last few.

Anyways..

LL Cool J ft Raekwon, Murda Mook and Ron Brownz - I'm Nice. Really cool tune if you look past the autotume hook (luckily it's minimal). I believe 'G.O.A.T 2' is LL's next project. I enjoyed 'Authentic' minus a few songs. I think LL's in a good place.

Probably one of my favourites of Prem's right there. His track record for memorable beats is incredible. I can't immediately think of a single bad Gang Starr beat. With that said:

The first single from the Prem/Royce duo PRhyme dropped:

PRHYME - Courtesy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFYbHfQimw8

Also, the full version of 'U Looz', which was first heard on the teaser video in the Vinyl record shop. (Even Premier drops a rhyme)

And the tracklist with features:

1. PRhyme
2. Dat Sound Good (feat. Ab-Soul & Mac Miller)
3. U Looz
4. You Should Know (feat. Dwele)
5. Courtesy
6. Wishin' (feat. Common)
7. To Me, To You (feat. Jay Electronica)
8. Underground Kings (feat. ScHoolboy Q & Killer Mike)
9. Microphone Preem (feat. Slaughterhouse)

Going to be an interesting project.

Found this instrumental in an old TimothyDeLaGhetto video, couldn't figure out what it was for almost 5-6 years, and somebody finally answered me.

Anyway, sorry for the long tale, but you guys might like this.

w00t new page.

Um, how about everyone tell how they found and got into hip-hop.

When the internet was young in the late 90s, early 2000s, I found some high rated old school gangster rap songs on YouTube and fell in love with them. San Andreas came out a few years later, so the timing was perfect.
