New Lupe Fiasco:

 

 

I never thought I would say this about a Lupe Fiasco record. But, I'm disappointed. Shining Down, I'm Beaming, What U Want and numerous other leaks have been brilliant. But since his new deal with Atlantic, it seems things may change. The hook leaves little to the imagination, and the instrumental is far from great. It could be that Lupe is making a middle-ground with Atlantic in order to release his album. This may be one of the hooks Atlantic passed to him. He still has the message, but again, his recent guest verses have been better. Compared to past tracks, it isn't up to par. The lyrics don't seem as complex either, maybe in order to appeal to the radio? Hopefully this is just a simple dud on the album, and the previous leaks will stay too.

 

I was expecting something with a bit of flare, rebellion and anger. Especially with the 'LASERS' movement/protests and his outburst against MTV. Hopefully the wait until March 8th will be worth it.

Swear, I could put those Eminem lyrics to a Marshall Mathers LP beat and never tell the difference. This track comes very close.

 

 

He hasn't been able to make that impression on me since erm...MMLP Good collab, I didn't think it would work but Nicki did amazing since I thought her whole album would be pop gimmick x10. Also didn't think Em would do it again since his last collab on a female artist's album was in 1999 with Missy Elliot. Beat overall is pretty poor though, but that's Swizz Beat's average production skills coming through. Personally he's been very hit and miss for me since forever.

 

I don't quite get where the Lil Kim diss is simple because I don't follow/care about Nicki's sh*t.

kippers, there isn't a direct shot at Lil' Kim per say in Roman's Revenge. But there's plenty of subliminal shots. The second verse specifically. I have to agree with you about Swizz Beats, his compositions can be catchy at first, but after a few replays that factor dims away behind the repetitiveness and unoriginality. At least he didn't adlib the whole record this time.

His mother is hardly a guardian angel. Just because someone is somebody's mother, doesn't necessarily mean they are a good person, let alone a good mother. Living beings tend to be unique like that.

Yeah, I know. I just think whatever she done to him and whatever he done to her, she still gave birth to him, fed him, gave him shelter. Things like that. Nobody except him and his mother will really have the whole details on the relationship they shared and I just think making tracks like he done is a really... I don't know what word to use... A really dickhead-esque thing to do.

 

Him and his mother are probably just as bad as each other anyway.

It's pretty good, not as good as the first I don't think. It's unfinished, and I feel the main letdown is the drums being overpowering, which will most probably be fixed when further mixing has taken place. Plus, the acoustic guitar added a reflective feel in the original. But nonetheless, still a very good song. Hook great as always.

 

As for your reply Lialls, I feel that feeding and giving shelter are necessities. Although shelter can depend on your income, but if you have shelter (house, apartment, etc), then again, it's really down to what is meant to be expected from a parent (allowing their children shelter and food). Doesn't stop someone from being a bad parent. The drugs, abuse and neglect simply outweighs those previous things. If your a parent, food for child (among certain other things) is a given. That doesn't justify the negative treatment and behavior however. A good parent should be able to provide, as well as love their children. Thereby going beyond the call of duty. But enough with this nonsensical topic, just enjoy the music for what it is.

 

I have a few family members I would most probably drag through the dirt, given the chance.
