Anyone who's been downloading what they're not supposed to be downloading will have heard Deja Vu (pre-Illmatic), but never this quality:

You may also notice how the first verse is the same as on Verbal Intercourse.

Yeah, Flesh told me the same thing practically over on YT. You guys wouldn't be the first either. I should being going music Uni next year to take up Music Producing, so I can learn how to make beats. I actually did try recording over some beats, but the home mic quality is really bad and doesn't work well.

I'm working on some side projects like my site at the mo, but when they're done, I'm gonna try and educate my self at home and make some basic beats and whatnot, then maybe I'll go to a studio and do some recording time or something. It will be a long time until I have full quality (mastered) tracks with beats (etc). But hopefully I will get there at some point lol.gif

Anyway, thanks icon14.gif .

Dude... take a beat from a song you like.

It's called Mixtapes.

I find your flow to be all over the place, if you were to practice with actual beats lets say from The Game or Slaughterhouse (noticed that you picked up some CD's) . Search up an instrumental and just go from there.

You need to get comfortable with flow before you can start producing a beat.

Seconded, for lack of better words.

That's pretty much what I wanted to say. Just D/L the instrumental to a song you like or want to rap over and then write down your lyrics. If you do it the other way around (as in starting with the lyrics THEN getting a beat) chances are high that you'll sound completely off-beat and nobody will really be interested to bother listening to it.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys icon14.gif . One of the problems I find is with the mic I've got at the moment, it's not loud enough, so I have tried rapping over beats before, but you can't really hear me. I might try and get a new mic or fiddle with the settings a bit (without making the quality terrible). Nevertheless thanks, although I'm going to say they weren't my best *cough* lol.gif .

If I can get a decent enough quality from my mic, then I'll do just that.

Anywho:

EDIT: Just heard this over on RR, the guitar on this beautiful, good tune:

And has anybody heard the new 50cent tune Hard Rock? I didn't thing 50 would ever make anything like this. Sounds terrible, Auto-tune and party like beat is all I'm going to say. I was hoping 50cent was making a comeback with the likes of his War Angel LP and Flight187. Now I'm cautious sneaky2.gif .

War Angel LP was very good stuff by 50. Definitely the 50 I like more. Flight187 was good as well (Music video was a bit cringey)

I have actually deliberately avoided 50s new song like the plague. As if it were some inbuilt natural god given instinct. By the sounds of it, my instincts are still up to scratch. lol.

I've been listening to Asher Roth on Youtube a bit today. Great stuff. His features are rather impressive for an almost out of nowhere debut. Busta Rhymes, Slick Rick... icon14.gif

Agreed - it's a solid debut, very refreshing sound: the dude talks about what he knows, and does so quite well, over some nice beats. No real complaints to be honestly.. worth at least a listen, tbh.

I do wonder about Slick Rick.

He's had a lot of features in alot of recent albums, and pretty consistantly since whenever his last solo album came out all those years ago. He's clearly still interested in the rap game and still has the skill to come out with some awesome material. Yet, he's decided not to do any solo albums in a long time. It's not like his last solo effort was a flop either (I don't think)

Granted he wouldn't hit the million mark in this age of hip hop unfortunately but he'd still sell well amongst thosde who actually KNOW hip hop.

For some reason I get the feeling he could come out with a good mainstream party style (REUNION COLLAB WITH DOUG E FRESH?)* song that everyone could agree with if he ever wanted to...

Opinions?

*Capitals to emphasis how awesome that would be

Doug E. Fresh is pretty much done musically. Slick Rick isn't...

From rumors I've heard, there were plans for a 2007 album by Ricky but he denied it and said he wants the market to open for a mature audience. What I'm thinking is... he has appeared here and there quite a few times, maybe now he'll plan to return?

Damn, there are many good rappers who need to mark a return: Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, MC Ren, Kool G Rap (Half a Klip was just some 30 minute EP), Rakim (gladly he IS working on it), Kool Moe Dee (even though he tried to come back numerous times in the early 90s but failed and decided to give up), Gang Starr and more.

I don't miss anyone as much as Kane, he still got the skills, even if his last two albums flopped it's been 11 years since Veteranz Day and I bet fans who lost hope are hungry for another album of his, meaning good enough sales.

As for Slick Rick's last album, it went platinum and is considered his best album since "The Great Adventures".

So many legends, in the need of a return, damn it!

'The Art Of Storytelling' actually charted higher on the Billboard 200 at 8 whilst TGA charted at 11. I think you're right. I could see him announcing an album within the next year or 2...3 at a stretch I bet. He's doing the right thing and slowly getting himself noticed again.

I love his verses with Mos Def and Outkast (Particularly his OutKast appearence)

OutKast - Da Art Of Storytellin' Part 1

Mos Def - Auditorium

Damn, I'm in the mood for lsitening to Slick Ricks entire discography now. Hearing 'Heeeeeere we go' never gets old! His voice is incredibly smooth and easy to chill out to.

'Done musically' because he'd never sell? Or because Doug E himself is done with music?

If all of those legends came out with new material within close proximity, hip hop fans would have no choice but to notice the old skool flava! [/ideal world]

Only if that was true. As for Doug E, I don't know but it's been a long time since he made an album and I haven't heard anything of him even appearing in a loooong time. The last time he was noticed was in Nas' Virgo from Streets Disciple. But I wouldn't really mind a come back from him either although there are others in my 'priority' wish list.

As for Rick's voice, it's so sampled I can't believe it. All over the 90s every rapper I've listened to has sampled one or two words coming out of his mouth most notably "some like this", "heeeeere we go" and the MC and D combination from "Emceeee Rickkkkkky DDDD".

EDIT:

I'd rather see any of these names make another album than LL Cool J. Sure thing, he has managed to stay and sell enough for two and a half decades but he fell off nearly two full decades ago around 19 years back. After Mama Said Knock You Out, all he started to do was pop songs for the ladies and proved that "L-L-Cool-J-is-soft-as-hell" as opposed to what we heard of him in 'Radio'. I hate seeing legends tarnishing their image by putting out mediocre stuff that doesn't help hip hop any while other legends who still have some magic left in them decide to be lazy and appear on one single guest appearance each third year. Of course it's their choice and all... but damn, I only wish things went the way we want them to. If only!

Yeah, allot of Slick Rick's content is sampled, mostly for mini-hooks and such. But that just shows his talent. I was thinking not too long ago actually that Slick might be on a come back, after all, he's made allot of guest appearances on albums of big names and he's still got it definitely. The last guest appearance I saw from him was on OB4CLII and he goes hard on that as well:

As for veterans coming back, I'd love to see that. I think it would have to be a power in numbers thing though. If just one could get the ball rolling and then change the mass appeal. You know advertise, get airtime; then you could get the majority of the mass market, even for a small period. I think it could be possible to get rap into a good state again, not necessarily what it was, because the music industry has changed allot since then. But as 2009 has shown, there is still something there in the industry, with rap particular. I think also the fans have got to help as well, by buying albums, supporting artists, and using word of mouth advertising to generate hype and success.

And it goes a little something like this. Hit it!

*Cue Doug E Fresh*

I'm surprised I heard him on NWA albums aswell. I heard NWA way before I discovered Slick Rick so obviously I didn;t notice. Listened to NWA for the first time in a long time several months back and was actually open jawed at the Slick Rick samples.

For some reason I just never imagined the likes of Eazy-E/Dre/Ice Cube to pay attention to Ricky D. seems stupid now. I suppose as someone who doesn't constantly listen to 90's material, his voice isn't so annoying to me.

Never really listened to LL. Not even half an albums worth of songs. (Atleast not knowingly) His recent 'Exit 13' album was a huge flop and he probably put it down to a 'sh*t happens' mentallity sigh.gif

according to Wiki, Dougs last appearance was...

On May 23, 2007, Fresh performed variations upon "The Show" with finalist Blake Lewis on the season-six finale of American Idol, the first ever hip-hop performance on the show,[3] which was watched by over 200 million people around the world.

Time to hunt youtube.

Lol. It's obvious N.W.A paid attention to most stuff that went down around hip hop at that time. Another way to know this is Rakim's voice being sampled in 'Eazy-Duz-It' (the song not the album). They were as much hip hop as anyone hailing from New York, they just changed the rules and were actually noticed unlike the hacks known as 2 Live Crew who used a bunch of cuss words and nobody gave a damn about them (I know they sold more than one million at one point and had their album banned but not even old school heads cut them a slice nowadays).

2009 is one of the best years in hip hop we've had recently (along with 2000 and 2003).

Oh god, 2 Live Crew, the only thing their music for is for something to listen to while you're banging your girlfriend or when a stripper is giving you a lap dance. The same can be said about the entire Miami Bass sub-genre.

Time for some mainstream. I know they all look the same, and some people think they're cheesy...but I love glossy '90s hip hop videos. They were fun to watch unlike dull videos today. Bring back the classy hooks, luxobarges, big budgets and shiney tracksuits.

Skip through the German advert at the beginning. (Foxy Brown is fine)

Yeah, I know. It's the Ten Crack Commandments beat.

By the way, does anyone know the other song that's similar to the Mariah one? It sounds very familiar.

And if I was to go with some mainstream from late 90s, then can't go wrong there, I know the majority hated it, but I actually enjoyed the song AND parts of the album:

Nice tunes.

This leaked a few days back, but now it's in CDQ. I don't really get 50 recently. Half the time, he does some really good grimey stuff. Then on the other hand, he goes more mainstream than ever (probably to advertise his album to a wider audience, but as people on the net have mentioned, he's not really getting Before I Self Destruct 'out there'). Hey, better than the 'Curtis' days at least lol.gif . Actually, just got the YT vid, it's CDQ but it's got God damn DJ drops all over the shop. Click the Permanent HQ link underneath the vid to listen to a tagless version.

Also, new Maino mixtape is now out. I didn't buy his album, and it sold only 16,000 in the first week I think, which is bad. And apparently it's a really good album. I like Maino's stuff as well, especially that Bandanna tune I posted yesterday (which is on the mixtape), so if ya'll interested, download it with the link below:
