Pretty good tracks guys, thanks; I'll be sure to look out for more icon14.gif .

Just listened to the Raekwon mixtape, and it's really good; can't wait for the album in September. And just some random tracks because I feel like it:

Really?

bleh

Lil Wayne is straight trash.

I could pick a sh*tty verse from any of your favourite artists, pre Carter 3 he was crazy. Not so much now, but his word play was untouchable.

I'll pick a hundred sh*tty verses from Lil Wayne and you can pick twenty from Rakim.

Will be checking that out, sweet cover.

With Wayne, he has so much material out there it's crazy. Tha Carter 1, Da Drought 3, The Leak and Dedication 2 are probably his best. These are few of my faves:

Georgia Bush is an ok song but the other two are still sh*tty.

For me the best rapper I've ever heard of is Big Daddy Kane. Well, he's top 10 at least. And about lyrics, I admit even he has a few stupid verses and I don't want to have to dig through a huge collection like Wayne's to find something that's good, you should be good in your official albums and not make one million mixtapes where 3 out of 30 are good. Georgia Bush is just okay though I can't listen to it more than once or twice because I find it boring. And being political seems to be a tactic to get a good rep from the hardcore 'purists'.

I haven't listened to Big Daddy Kane that much so I wouldn't know why he would be top ten material. I haven't listened to much good rap so this might look pretty limited.

Top ten

10. Big L

9. Slick Rick

8. Scarface

7. GZA

6. Kool G Rap

5. Chuck D

4. KRS-One

3. Ice Cube

2. Nas

1. Rakim

Five months ago this would have been my list. suicidal.gif

10. Dr. Dre

9. Eminem

8. Kanye West

7. Lil Wayne

6. T.I.

5. Jadakiss

4. Jay-Z

3. Tupac

2. The Notorious B.I.G.

He is good but overrated.

I think that too, but no one ever actually plays his music. Maybe if people started listening to music instead of beef, the world would be a better place.

Oh, and congratulations XAF226, you have seen the light. icon14.gif

My favorite Biggie song is "Ten Crack Commandments". His skills are simply above what he showed in other songs there, and add Premier's legendary beats to ride with and you got a classic track.

My top 10 MCs ever would look something like:

10. LL Cool J (can't be 100% but his longevity and legacy is always at the top.)

9. Scarface

8. Chuck D

7. Kool G Rap

6. KRS-One

5. Nas

4. 2Pac (I don't care about what anyone with "unique views" says but he had more than "gangsta partying" as they are his most famous songs.)

3. Rakim

2. Ice Cube

1. Big Daddy Kane

BDK is a must in anyone's top 10 after listening to him. Just go back a couple of pages and play the song I put up, it's L's song and BDK still outshines him, just proves how much of a legend he is and the credit he truly deserves. Too bad him and Kool G Rap are the most underrated in the majority of knowledgeable lists. Another thing, BDK proves is that an album shouldn't be judged by it's cover. Just look at them, his album covers mostly are pimp style but the material inside the CD are completely different and he has more than just being a "lover-man".

I really recommend "Long Live the Kane", "It's a Big Daddy Thing" and "Looks Like a Job For..." to anyone who hasn't heard them already.

Well to be honest, I think they're old stuff, (IE: Songs realeased in 1992-99) was actually better than they're new stuff, but that's just my opinion. But if there would be a reason to liste to them, it'd just be to get laughs.

EDIT: But at least they ain't as bad as Soulja Boy.

Well, it doesn't take much to be better than Soulja Boy. I can prove that I'm better than him by writing a good verse and perform it over a random instrumental even out of synch. So being better than Soulja Boy is hardly an achievement to be honest.

I don't understand you guys when you say your better then Mr.TellEm, how come he's signed and your not? What are you trying to prove?

Nobody said anything about Biggie, yep, he might be overrated. I mean he's good and somewhere in a top 20. But the old "1. Tupac 2. Biggie" formula is getting old quickly and people need to open their ears and listen to more than just dickriding two dead legends.

Plus, there's no need to act like an e-thug with the excessive use of the f-word. LOL @ "hoes".

Maybe if I would give it a try then I would succeed... but I'm too lazy to do it!

And selling more & getting more radio play or having a larger fanbase doesn't mean you're better... There's a difference between popularity and talent.

How are Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, and Officer Ricky real at anything? Real mainstream isn't even played. I have yet to hear anything like "Holy Are You" on the radio.

Just found out that Eminem was in a rap group called Soul Intent before the days of the Slim Shady EP. I was listening to the tracks on RapBasement, and they're absolute gold. Pure old skool, be sure to check the tracks out: clicky!

Who made him the king of the city? Sure he was the big name but both him and 2pac got all the attention they have and the credit they get after they died...

50 Cent calls himself 'King of NY' and some actually believe it, does that mean that he's in a top 50 or 100?

Lil Wayne also calls himself 'best rapper alive' and a bunch of people blindly follow his word. I don't care what anyone says, no matter how good he has been at his best, he still doesn't deserve being called that and even the fans of his that like his "real" stuff wouldn't say he's 'the best rapper alive'.

Forgive me for being off topic, but I want to talk about how pissed off I am about ICP. I mean, I can't belive I listened to that piece of sh*t sampler. ICP used to actually sound like hip hop, now they sound like a sh*tty mix of hip hop and rock/metal. They also used to be wicked and hardcore IMO. When I first started to listen to them back in early 2007, I listened to their first four albums (Carnival of Carnage, Ringmaster, Riddlebox and Great Milenko) and I thought they were good, then I listened to their Amazing Jeckel Brothers album and I thought, "This is, okay, I guess", same with Bizzar/Bizaar. Then I listened one of the songs from their The Wraith: Shangri-La album, Homies, and I thought, "WTF? Is this really ICP rapping and singing?", so I decided to listen to some of the other songs on the The Wraith: Shangri-La and all of them were dreadful. So afterwards I thought, "Oh, I guess it was just one bad album". So I decided to listen to some songs from their Hell's Pit and The Tempest albums, and after listening to those dreadful albums, I had a look on my face like this,

nervous.gif

So I decided try to listen to some of the other artist at Phsychopathic Records and you know what, they all f*cking sucked! So I decided to refuse to listen to any new stuff from ICP and when I heard that they were making a new album, I decided to give them one more chance, then I listened to the sampler and then I realized, they suck now, there no longer the wicked clowns they used to be, I hate their new rock/metal rap style and they're sell outs. I'd rather have listen to MC Chris's annoying ass, high pitched voice blasting in my ear than listen to f*cking Homies or f*cking Yellow Bus.

But you know, I could feel like this was going to happen when I read this on Wikipedia,

Bang! Pow! Boom! was recorded in six months. In order to ensure the quality of his vocal recordings, Bruce did not smoke cannabis while recording, and drank hot tea before each take.According to Bruce, the goal was to produce an album that was "very much a part of the Dark Carnival, without it being the seventh Joker's Card". Bruce listened to music by the psychedelic rock band Gong for inspiration. Confirmed tracks include "The Bone", which will feature surf rock-influenced guitars,"I Found a Body", a comedic track featuring lyrics similar to the plot of Weekend at Bernie's,and "Chop Chop Slide", inspired by the "Cha Cha Slide".

I feel so sick right now from reading that.

Haha f*ck I know. people talking bullsh*t all over the internet though. I swear im almost done with even following anything anyone else says about hip hop on the net. hip hop forums full of shock rick ross >> biggie threads and people acting smart by trying to formulate a top 10 list when they been listening to hip hop for like 5 mins. And i got nothing against ross just sayin.

i put it down to so many people/youngins having so much access to downloaded music, and seeing so many conversations going on about hip hop that they force themselves to have certain opinions on artists.

the only thing you could aim at BIG is maybe he didnt live all that that he rapped about, buT you could aim that at f*ckin numerous artists, and also he might have led hip hop into a more "pop" type era (with the help of puffy) but thats debatable anyway. His skills on the mic are unquestionable.

My favorite Biggie song is "Ten Crack Commandments". His skills are simply above what he showed in other songs there

No they arent. You are talking absolute bullsh*t as usual. It a great concept and great track but he excels on numerous other tracks that I really cant be f*cked mentioning. and you got LL top ten, longevity? lol just lol.

yeah, whys that then?

utter nonsense. people need to smoke more or summin. Itll make you enjoy hip hop more and stop the need of creating bullsh*t opinions every 5 mins. Plus smokin weed is cool.

damn i typed that quick. Must have hit a nerve. Also lol at that guy who just found out ICP are wack.

I'm just saying, listen to whatever you want. I just find it hard to go out and slam some artists out there that work hard at what they do. Even if it is some lame ass f*ckin lyrics over a fruity loop beat. Don't get me wrong, there was a point in my life where I hated rap/hip-hop and was all about my classic rock and rock in general. But I expanded my taste in music.

And i'v listened to all the underground, I'v listened to all the Jedi Mind Tricks, the Atmosphere, the Big Daddy Kane, KRSone and boogy dowwn productions.

It's like I can't get into Big Daddy Kane or Kool G Rap anymore.

They have nothing else to offer me, I have this thirst to listen to more and more music and for some reason it can't be quenched.

That... and I like f*cking sneakers.

Ever heard of opinions? I might say this because I just love the beat so much and the concept is great too, his skills on the mic are indeed unquestionable, maybe I went too far saying this was his 'only' track above his other stuff since pretty much everything in Ready to Die is good. Remember, overrated doesn't mean he is sh*t. About LL, it was just a random choice, I rather wanted to include someone who has more than just two albums (no disrespecting the likes of Biggie or Big L who didn't have the chance to show off their skills.)

I would put Kool Moe Dee above LL but sadly KMD's career went down the drain after Funke Funke Wisdom even though I liked that album. Also three classics... (Radio, Bigger and Deffer & Mama Said Knock You Out), not enough?

For the second part of your post, replace "all" with "most" and it is correct there. And I'm mainly talking about people who have nothing else to say other than "#1 Pac #2 Big, period." You know I have all the respect Pac & BIG both should get, but it's annoying with everybody's tops being them and the rest of their list... nothing.

To be honest, if I'm ever being harsh on BIG, it's because one of my friends is overrating him too damn much. I just get tired of him being all "Biggie this, Biggie that". He thinks BIG invented rhyming in hip hop... that says a lot.

Plus one of his favorite Biggie lines is "Do something to us, talk go through us, girls walk to us, wanna do us, screw us, who us? yeah, poppa and puff" claiming everything rhymes, ha.. anyone can use the same word at the end of every sentence.

And, you are just overacting, I might give Biggie less credit than what he deserves currently but you act like your opinions are facts and automatically right and everyone else is wrong. Citing the amount of minutes/days/weeks/years you've been listening as an excuse...

I didnt say a thing about my own length of time listening to hip hop, just that people choose to talk a lot after only listening for a brief period.

and one of your reasons for disliking big is that your friend rates him (albeit too highly in your opinion)? i mean, it seems like youre pushing to create informed opinions, why would you go and do that? Defeats the object.

yeah but thats a fairly ordinary, throwaway line anyway, so whats your point? you just acted like you proved something. who were you even arguing with there?

look, the "opinions" I put in my post are facts, namely LL fell off mid 90s and has been dreadful since, BIG had better lyricism (or at a push equal to) tracks like 10 crack commandments (dont get me wrong its a great track but he was pretty much constrained by the concept), and that he was Ill on the mic. thats all i said

oh and f*ck a top 10 list.

I don't thinks it's necessary to have these top 10 lists, it defeats the purpose of what Hip-Hop/Rap is. Sure there is a certain line between good, great, bad, and terrible; but within such degrees MCs have their own perks and styles that make them unique and different to others.

Not only that, I've been listening to hip-hop for two years (when I started to rap and aspire to become a rapper) and there are still many rappers I need to listen to. I mainly listen to modern underground rap as that's my preference. But I still need to listen to the likes of Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Big Pun, Sean Price, etc.

But from MCs I have listened to, I do have list of favourites, but I deter from putting them in any order of preference in any form: The Game, Eminem, Method Man, Reakwon, Aesop Rock, Andre 3000, The Cool Kids, Tupac, Immortal Technique, Redman, WC, Mos Def, Rakim. These are probably those of who I listen to the most, and enjoy listening to. Make of that what you want.

Breaking from the big debate, just came across this crazy Eminem freestyle on the Tube:

Oh and sethpenguin, you still have yet to hit me up with the Facebook link to that song I wrote a guest verse for.
