It's seems like in the 90's each region of the US, (The East Coast, West Coast, South and Midwest) had a rapper that represented them. IMO Tupac represented the West Coast, Biggie represented the East Coast, Esham represented the Midwest and Outkast represented the South. Although these are just my opinion.

Yea i agree, No Doubt

and it's because it's the different sides they come from

like im from Michigan, midwest, us new generation don't really have are own style only few, and I'm one.

What does everyone think of Jay-Z after Reasonable Doubt? IMO RD was classic but all his other albums were nothing like RD and made him look like a sellout.

He was certainly not as good after that but his albums all have a good number of great tracks and a couple of fillers that are skippable annoying songs. He might have been a sellout after that but at least he still makes music that are listenable and likable, instead of selling out completely and making fully trash stuff...

As for your choices for each region, Big Daddy Kane should be there alongside KRS and Rakim, I like him even more than them. LL is a legend no doubt but he really flopped during the 90s after making three classics.

So you may or may not remember me talking about looking for the Slaughterhouse album. Well there is this record shop up my grandparents, and the owner practically does everything, it's amazing. There's a rap section and I've never seen so many classics in my life, I was drooling at the mouth. He has all the Eminem, Biggie, 2pac, DMX, Method Man, Redman, Wu-tang albums and allot more besides. I found the Method Man & Redman album that I'd been looking for for ages (Blackout 2), so I was pleased with that. But I was still having no luck with Slaughterhouse. So I asked him today if he had any copies in the back and he told me no, because the album is not distributed in the UK. But fortunately he is ordering it and delivering it to me, so I'm extremely happy with that; and I had a bit cash and bought the old Marshal Mathers LP which is my favourite Eminem album.

But it makes me wonder. Artists are always moaning about not making sales and people ripping their stuff of the net. Well I'm an old skool honest guy, and if I really like an artist like Eminem or The Game for example, I will by their album. Problem is, if they are not mainstream enough like the likes of Soulja Boy (was on TV therother day, my ears were bleeding) and T.I , then record labels won't even bother selling it in the UK, because about 5 people will buy them and the other small amount will just jack it off the net. It really pisses me off. I should be getting a debit card soon though, as I need one for hosting my site which you may have seen in my sig. So I can order all my albums from Amazon or something. Can't wait for the likes of Reakwon and Rakim, some heavy stuff dropping this year.

And on the southern rappers discussion. I only just started listening to Cham after taking interest in his new Mixtape Messiah 7 mixtape. It's absolute class, so I'm listening to more of his stuff. I got put off by that Ridin' track, which led me to believe he was like all the other modern day 2-bit rappers. Fortunately he isn't. So I'll be listening to more of him in the days to come. Oh, and keep out an eye out for Jay Rock's daily freestyles dropping, which RapRadar is covering: clicky! Some amazing tunes coming out of that. And the Ab-Soul guy who is on the general portion of them is amazing.

Just picked up K'Naan's Troubadour and The Dusty Foot Philosopher, and they're f*cking great. Two of the best albums I've ever heard, especially Dusty Foot.

Absolutely agree. I love K'Naan.

What does everyone think of Jay-Z after Reasonable Doubt?

Reasonable Doubt was pretty good, but it's his only album I'll listen to. He got way too cocky after RD and remains that way. I like his flow, but his lyrics on subsequent albums are boring as sh*t and mostly about the same mundane subjects every time.

All this hate for Jay?? The Blueprint and the Black album both came out a long time after Reasonable Doubt, so Jigga definitely did not fall off.

I don't really hate Jay and rank him pretty high in a top MCs list. However, one thing that makes me looks like a question mark, why so many always end up ranking him above bigger and better legends like Ice Cube who has done way more than him and is better overall...

Reasonable Doubt is a classic with pretty much nothing to skip. Vol. 1 is good with one absolutely annoying song (I Know What Girls Like), Vol. 2 was also good with a couple of fillers though. The Blueprint is class with one song that annoys me mainly for the chorus (Hola Hovito), the Black Album is class and funnily enough I listened to it yesterday, there are a still a number of tracks there that make me press the skip button. American Gangster is also good but slightly above average because I just don't like the production (I should remember this is 2007, not 1988). Kingdom Come is weak and I haven't heard the rest of his albums because they are said to be disappointing.

His achievements away from the mic: record labels, fashion brand, management agency, his relations with legendary rappers such as Big L and others...and possibly the biggest: getting married to Beyonce (even if it is just a PR tactic).

True but none of that would make him better. Cube was also associated with a bunch of the golden age east coast legends like Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane & Kool G Rap not to forget Scarface (not from the east). And I mentioned BDK, Jay was his protege in his early years.

"So Jay-Z, if you down with the crew, my mellow, get on the mic it's time to show and prove."

Speaking of Jay & L, I really loved Jay's verse in "Da Graveyard" even though Lord Finesse was something else there.

By saying all of this, Jay is definitely more successful and famous than Ice Cube. I mean Cube is known rather for club songs like "Smoke Some Weed" and "Do Ya Thang" when what really makes him a legend are his early two records which both fall under top ten gangsta rap albums ever and in top 20 hip hop albums in general.

Take away Reasonable Doubt and Jay will look mediocre, The Blueprint was pretty good but it had some annoying tracks.

The only songs on The Blueprint that I can listen to are Takeover, U Don't Know, Renegade, and Blueprint.

Anyone remember EV from way back when? I was like 7 when my brother got me into his sh*t. Now I'm 16, and still love it.

Awesome Song:

Gantons Most Wanted

People seem to forget though that even though Jay Z has achieved so much it was Dame Dash who helped him get the ball rolling business wise. It was his idea to make Roc-A-Fella into a brand name with the clothing lines and other stuff they were doing around that time. Thats how Jay and Dame got so big Jay did the rapping and Dame used alot of diverse methods to promote him through outlets such as documentaries and movies which people weren't taking advantage of back then.

Jay is good, he may focus too much on mainstream subject matters but he is definitely good and done his fair bit in hip hop. Soulja Boy & Lil Wayne however, I agree about.

Now these guys are amazing:

As much as I love the AoTP crew I think you're spouting more bullsh*t than you can handle, classing all mainstream artists in the same bundle of talentless hacks as Soulja Boy and Hurricane Chris is like saying all black people are gang members. How can you ignore artists like DMX, Nas, Ludacris, and the like, hell even Lil Wayne can spit, but assholes like you are too closed minded to listen to anything outside of the bubble of underground hip-hop you have so unjustifiably claimed as being the only good and true hip-hop. Please f*ck off until you realize how stupid your post was.

If that was directed at me. Then "mainstream subject matters" are what the music on the radio mainly is about... money and being rich, girls, being "gangsta" (as in killing people without even having a gun of your own) and cars. I didn't mention bullsh*t like "dancing" because Soulja Boy shouldn't even be considered as a musician let alone rapper.

And I am not dismissing all mainstream rappers, if anyone thought so. I still listen to Snoop, DMX, Nas, Jay, Cube and more. I just am annoyed with how the good mainstream rappers don't get as much attention as they deserve whereas the hacks like Soulja Boy get more radio play and sales.

Really?

We are not the same I am a alien

Like Gonzales, young college student who done

Just flipped the game like Houston, I'm used to

Promethazine in two cups I'm screwed up

And you ain't sh*t if you ain't never been screwed up

Flow so sick make you wanna throw your food up

Ice water chest, and my wrist like a cool cup

Two twin clippers, I give your ass a crew cut

I get bread like cold cuts you know what?

Your girl go down fast, come up slow, but I never slow up

Weezy

Lil Wayne is straight trash.

Lil Wayne is straight trash.

I could pick a sh*tty verse from any of your favourite artists, pre Carter 3 he was crazy. Not so much now, but his word play was untouchable.

I've only ever known Lil Wayne for his mainstream stuff, of which of course is terrible. But I always hear that he has some really good underground/mixtape content. I know he is really good with word play, but I've never really seen any of his good content, so for those more inclined, can you point me towards some good Lil Wayne content? Thanks.

Anyway just saw that Raekwon has a new mixtape out. I haven't listened to it yet, but it's Reakwon, so it must be good. And check out the awesome artwork:

Will be checking that out, sweet cover.

With Wayne, he has so much material out there it's crazy. Tha Carter 1, Da Drought 3, The Leak and Dedication 2 are probably his best. These are few of my faves:
