AKON? f*ckIN AKON?

Yep. What's wrong with Akon? It's not as though he's talentless:

Akon - Trouble Nobody

Ignore the overwhelming gayness of those fan videos. I think the main problem facing these singers is beats. Consider for instance, the DJ Mike Waxx mix of T Pain's "I Can't Believe It". That sounded awesome. The Arrow Root instrumental (Special Herbs, Volume 1-2) complements his "voice" perfectly:

If T Pain had beats like that on all his music, I'd grab his albums on the regular!

But yeah, Street Niggas is still the whackest thing to ever flow through these speakers.

Let's move on with proper music from Gucci...

Haha this coming from someone who didnt listen to f*ck all other than west coast music not long ago, and didnt have a clue about anything else. Acting like you have superior music taste all of a sudden. Yeah yeah.

i been listening to 5'9 for like like 8 years now mate. just stating facts.

and the main problem with akon is that he sounds like some reedy voiced fool who makes music for 10 year old girls.

His voice is relaxing (see: Mama Africa, and I assume you've already heard Don't Matter), his beats are my only concern. If Mike Waxx were to make another mixtape using Special Herbs beats, or similar ones, this time with primarily Akon songs; I would actually pay for that sh*t.

The standard "zomg, you listen to mainstream R&B, you must be a teenage girl rofloflofl" mantra of the narrow minded listener is quickly becoming stale.

What? I was just messing with y'all with my talk about being only into west coast... and how can you even try to say I had no clue about other music?

And you've been into Royce for 8 years? Congratulations, now go brag about it in public. Time doesn't matter, as long as you have found your way to the same thing (not only music)...

8 years or 1 week, same sh*t.

And I have listened to Royce all year around, and knew who he was before I even joined this forum, but I didn't start giving him a proper listen till last year.

.... 5'9 is a winner.

Ok ok i snapped a bit. Just thought you were calling me out on something. Ive never got at you for only listening to west coast music before, in fact i remember being open about it in other topics..people tastes expand I know.

wait..wait..are you sayin that you were trying to fool us by stating you only listened to west coast before? cmon man that is not true at all. I would refer you to the CNN vs dogg pound topic but i cant be f*cked

I also get the feeling Melchoir is trying to bracket me as a certain type of hip hop listener. Honest mate ive been listening to hip hop a long time, this is not the case. Akon just has a terrible whiny voice, and he is marketed towards kids.

5'9 is a winner

I find it pretty relaxing.

Not really, he just does hooks for so many ring tone hip hop tracks, he attracts a certain kind.

It's irrelevant, though, given that your point it moot. the kind he attracts from some of his work, is hardly a reflection on his work collectively.

Dear god we've got another live one. Just re read what you just wrote in your last post and it will all fall into place.

He is marketed towards kids. It equals the most money. He is also a terrible singer.

Now I must be gone. I cant sit around arguing about gucci and akon all day. biggrin.gif Laters.

Again, the hooks he does for ring tone rappers isn't a reflection on his solo work.

Indeed, I was biased towards the west coast. But I liked any music that got me. And all of this had something to do with some people who pissed me off because they listened to east coast rappers mainly and kept on annoying me by calling out my west coast MCs lol...

And I do remember that thread about CNN vs DPG and I was a heavy DPG supporter then. I personally have liked all types of hip hop that haven't got me bored by being played on the radio every minute (although if I think it's good, I wont deny it.)

At first I started with the absolutely overrated mainstream stuff that every teenager plays in their phones and have as ringtones. But I started to get around forums and by the end of 2006 I found my way into... proper music and have been a fan of the less known rappers ever since. I liked the west coast sound more and after a while some people kept on disrespecting my choice and that got me angry, which made me stay true only to the west coast when I talk about the comparison... But now, here we are and I am openly admitting my addiction towards Gang Starr, Big Daddy Kane and other east coast legends.

While we're talking about CNN, I heard their new album and I wouldn't compare it with their previous two although Grand Royal is a wicked song with the Premo production.

Have ever listened to Spit Game? It's probably 5'9's best song.

All of Royce's stuff is dope his return of malcolm freestyle i listen to it alot as for Akon i have to say he is clearly marketed at young teenagers who love watered down rap music i'll admit i liked Locked Up but thats as far as it goes but as far as people saying hes a better hook singer than Nate Dogg is just beyond reason.

haha yeah i remember when i was telling you that tim dogg ran the west coast, and you were replying sort of angrily. To be fair it it did seem like you were doing it quite tongue in cheek.

and DPG did take that battle tho

its good to see nickel getting mentioned in here. and generally overall I hear his name more these days, seemed like a lot of people took attention after bar exam 2 came out. I read something the other day saying that he doesnt take that long over his verses, I was surprised.

and Death is certain is one of the most underated hip hop albums ever.

i heard that cnn, was...nothin special really. Didnt even like Grand Royal as much as id expected to. That track though, where they are going back and for talking about how they are still brothers, even though they annoy each other and sh*t, dope track.

Obviously, and since my jokes are 95% of the times serious and harsh you could say I really mean it. But I still don't waste my ears' power on Tim Dog's voice just because I didn't like his songs anyways, nothin to do with his beef or whatever.

I agree, NY, NY was harder and funner to listen to in comparison to LA, LA which sounded kinda dead.

Nickel Nine is the upcoming legend of hip hop music. He's nearly always fire although I am not a fan of his latest two official releases, Independent's Day and "The Album".

I prefer Rock City [Version 2.0] to D.i.C. but both are class and I would rank them close to each other.

Yep, new CNN was nothing special. Worst of all that annoying auto-tune f*ck Ron Browz has to be heard makes it worse.

I only listen to odds and sods but off the top of my head I would recommend Dizzee Rascal and Lethal Bizzle, though I'm sure other members can suggest better and lesser-known artists:

So Drake is supposedly close to getting signed finally? I'm not too big on the dude, but that's all I keep hearing so he clearly has some hype behind him.
