That's not Drake. That's Charles Hamilton.

I was asking if Drake wrote the "Ain't Nuttin' Like a Brooklyn Girl" song and it was a feeble attempt to make fun of him with the "siiiickkk rhimes dawwwwgg" line. I understand that is Charles Hamilton, but thanks for the help.

It may be down to the fact I don't follow Xzibit as much as I do other rappers, but I find he's greatly under appreciated as a solo artist. He's in loads of massive classics; mainly Dre/Snoop songs come to mind, but I wouldn't be able to name ANY of his own famous songs without seeing a list and recognising the names.

He's a classic artist, but is he under appreciated or is it just me?

Well thank you, miscommunication on my part. Sorry about that. He deserved to get hit in the face for such an awful song.

I think Kanye's material is kinda weak right now. Material as in 808s and Heartbreak. I liked every single album he put out until that one. I mean I respect him for doing something different but I feel like the Autotune sound is just extremely, extremely, extremely played out right now. I mean T-Pain did it to death and then Wayne jumped on it and absolutely just played it out and then Kanye released a whole album where he is on Autotune the entire time. Autotune is not Kanye. I mean he is basically coming off as another one of those artists who can't even breath without Autotune, which is sad. He has so much talent as an emcee and a producer. He just should go back into rapping without Autotune.

I think something that Hip-Hop needs is a straight-up all-rap Andre 3000 album. No singing, no lovely melodies, just Andre on the mic, rapping and showcasing his lyrical abilities. I mean he killed on collaborations such as "International Player's Anthem" and "Green Light" and stole the show from the featured artist. He just needs a vessel where he can shine lyrically not vocally.

ooooo andre 3k mention yessir!!

i like kanye's album but not so much the autotune as you mentioned, aside from that tho it is his features that i think are why he's atop now. someone will dethrone him soon, just don't know who yet...

i'd like to hear a lot more of andre 3000 tho he does have some VERY quality material out, don't forget "royal flush"

just not enough of new music from him.

who will kill autotune is the question?

I believe as long as there is a market of 13 and 14-year olds who like Autotune, it will not die for another two years. Then, it will be a fad just like Snap music.

Do you think Kanye is better than Lil' Wayne as far as collaborations and an artist as a whole?

Kanye West is way better than Lil Wayne when it comes to everything. However Kanye isn't as good as Nas.

Lil Wayne is what's wrong with Hip-Hop right now, all hooks, no substance. I love Kanye West, but I couldn't support his last album. Auto-Tune does not make you a good singer, it just disguises your mistakes. Nas is one of the greatest to do it, but he still has way too much music that wasn't up to par. Nas fans love to hate Jay-Z, but he made Nas wake up big time, and every album since Stillmatic has been a hit to me. I wish Nas could re-do (I Am) & (Nastradamus). His second album (It Was Written) had a hand full of nice tracks too, but I guess when you make an album as great as (illmatic) was, it's hard to measure up.

My favorite emcee's of last generation:

Nas, Jay-Z, & Eminem

My favorite emcee's of this generation:

Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, & Drake

I think Lil' Wayne has over saturated himself, or he is about to reach that peak sometime soon. There are rappers (i.e 50 Cent) who didn't believe in the word "over saturation". I mean Wayne's released countless mixtapes and is still popular whereas 50 released a handful of mixtapes and only two albums and then his reign was up. I guess you could account that on the part of the South's mainstream rap scene gaining more light as acts like T.I, Lil' Jon, Lil' Scrappy, Mike Jones, and others blew up. But I think there will be a point when Wayne goes over the edge and is finished. Personally, I don't like his voice. His lyrics aren't as mind-boggling as everybody thinks (lyricism is nothing new, children of the 'burbs). His flow is alright. But I mean when they have Greatest of All Time arguments I do not think you should even consider Wayne being in that argument.

About where I'm at with Weezy. I caught on with him a little later than everybody else did, maybe a couple months before Tha Carter III. Where most people say "Carter III is overrated, his older stuff is better", I just never got that too into his material. He makes great tracks to ride, smoke or drink to, but aside from that there isn't anything special about him. Also, he doesn't "spit like he used to" as most people have said to me when I bring him up.

I fu*king love Lupe on the other hand. Food & Liquor had great substance, and The Cool had tons of great tracks too. I have a lot of his underground stuff too, which is where he really shines. Probably my favorite of this generation as well.

nas is king of hip hop

Well I think that in the 90's Notoious B.I.G was the king of East Coast Hip Hop and Tupac was the king of West Coast Hip Hop. In the 80's that title belonged to NWA. However the this decade's king of Rap/Hip Hop would be a very hard thing to decide, I mean there are a sh*t load of awsome artist in the Underground and Alternative scene and there are some good mainstream atist, IE Kanye West, Kid Cudi, ETC. If there was to be a national vote for kind of Rap/Hip Hop a large majority will say it's Soulja Boy, or 50 Cent or Lil Wayne, which is a very sadthing to say but there are more people listening to sh*tty artist rather than real ones.

I do not think N.W.A were quite the reigning kings of the 80s. Although they were revolutionary in their style and approach to Hip-Hop so were many other acts at the time they broke out hence the name the Golden Era. I mean acts like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Eric B. and Rakim, KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, EPMD, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, 3rd Bass, Queen Latifah and so on and so forth had a huge impact on Hip-Hop. Unless of course you mean N.W.A were kings of West Coast Hip-Hop, that is guaranteed but with Hip-Hop overall during that era, no. Sorry I droned on about that.

Nas, king of Hip-Hop? Lyrically sort of, if you can get me to listen to any of his terribly produced music. Well it's not terrible but the beats get boring to me. I mean the recent stuff that I like are songs like Thief's Theme which he turned around and made Hip-Hop Is Dead with the same sample. I just think he needs better production. I liked Street's Disciple for a few listens and then got bored with the production. Stillmatic is probably the only album released in the New Millennium I can actually go back and enjoy. I just think Illmatic is still his magnum opus and in my mind there is no way he can top it lyrically or production-wise (Pete Rock, Q-Tip, and DJ Premier all on the same album? Who, what? Where?)

Plus, I think there are a lot of other artists out there (not Lil' Wayne, Soulja Boy, or the mainstream sh*t) who I like more than Nas now and his recycled theme of being God's Son/Street Poet/Disciple, etc., etc. Stuff gets old, you have to re-invent yourself overtime. How come Jay-Z learned this but Nas didn't?

kid cudi? kid cudi?!?

i listened to his mixtape, his rhymes have no substance...that is ever if he rhymes. he sings to much and cant hit a note..

i say nas because he's been in it for 14 plus years and if you listen to "untitled" he hasn't lost a step since illmatic. i dont kno ANY rapper that has done anything close to that.

there are quality rappers out there, just haven't had the longevity as nas has had.

that is why i give him the crown.

i mean, dre has been in the game longer, but listen to the music he puts out now...

Hip hop music is like a big world. There are sooooo many good musicians around it yet the ones that people commonly count as bad get way more attention.

I personally feel the music is taking a couple of steps forward and good stuff are on the way being released. Although many legends from the 90s have decided to change and become a sell-out now (see Snoop), there are some who still make sick music plus more rappers from the modern days who are just skilled. This auto-tune thing that is being popularized right now will get repetitive and old soon enough, then I wonder what excuses does these pricks have to make out as "the new generation" afterward.

I remember when T-Pain was "new" and being played all over the radio. I can't believe a couple of my friends thought it was his own voice.

I don't really hear auto tune that much now, at one point it was on everything but now it seems to be dieing out? Which I'd say is a good thing. I'm waiting for Lil Wayne's Rebirth to drop just to see how badly it does. It just sounds so bad.

New J Dilla, Jay $tay Paid, is "out". Copped the leak and it's just great, been on repeat all day. Gonna get a physical copy when it comes out. icon14.gif

Funny how Cool & Dre claimed that this album is as good as Outkast's "Aquemini". That's just straight bullsh*t!

I like that, I like that.

It's a bit too far-fetched to consider anyone the king of hip hop, really. Hip hop's a cultural movement, not a one man army (sorry One Be Lo); a single person/group isn't responsible for shaping rap music. You just have to take a look at foreign hip hop to get the big picture, don't believe for a second their sounds and ideas are Americanised (French is a possible exception tounge.gif ). It varies on the country, but a lot of it takes a step back from the traditional 'rapping' we all know, incorporating their own culture to the mix.

Okay Ciabatta inspired me to ramble, the point is there's too many names out there to narrow down as the absolute pinnacle (let alone of their respective genres).
