I do like Classic Hip-Hop more than what is circulating on today's radio stations. The one thing I do not like is 'revivalist' rappers who are trying to bring back that classic feel but are trying to beef with current rappers. They also put their nose in the air to almost everything, I know I used to be like that.

I think if you are looking for fun 80s type hip-hop if you haven't heard People Under the Stairs, you need to. Definitely start off your collection with "O.S.T" it will change your life, then buy the old albums and go through their library.

Even though I like the beat (no wonder with that sample)... I dunno, MA$E sounds like he is falling asleep in every damn verse he "kicks". biggrin.gif

Had some great tracks though, I still love and constantly hear "All I Ever Wanted", "Tell Me What You Want", "Lookin' At Me" and "I Need To Be"...

When you talk of hip hop with no beef, no guns, just good music. I wouldn't really name him on that list though...

A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Talib Kwelli, Pharaohe Monch, Blue & Exile, Masta Ace... enough good sh*t even nowadays!

any of you see that sh*t floating round on youtube that is like "you say chris brown, i say Rakim"... f*ck thats got to be one of the lamest things I have ever witnessed in regards to hip hop. This whole bring back "real" rap has got to stop, and the term "real" hip hop should be banned..it is what it is. I suppose its only a reaction to people who think hip hop is strictly whats in the mainstream, but still, Just support the artists you like. And you know the majority of people moaning about the state of the industry probably dont even buy music or go to shows anyway, so f*ck em.

and yeah I agree on Mc Lyte, i say it every time her name comes up but she is one of the best mcs I ever heard, never mind female mcs. On top of those mentioned Tiye Phoenix from polyrhythm addicts is dope, and she replaced apani B in the group who was also a great lyricist. Uk wise, Tempa and Wildflower, along with one I forget at the minute, are the better females over here, they just unfortunately dont seem to put out much music. How come so many people outside Uk know Lady Sovereign? Not a fair representation.

eh, rambling a bit. I heard this the other day, first time in ages, gave me goosebumps.

icon14.gif I hear that. It makes old school hip-hop fans look bad...plus dilutes the comments that actually make sense.

Though personally, I agree with them: I find it hard to enjoy anything mainstream today. Everyone on the underground tends to have skills and creativity, their production is often poor.

Hell, maybe I just don't like the sound of computers. There's something I love about the rough analogue sound of typical '90s beats that you just don't get today.

True true. I keep getting into arguments about it on youtube. Arguing. On youtube. biggrin.gif

And yeah I hear what youre saying, but you know hip hop has changed and will no doubt change again. We were never going to get east coast grimy beats dominating for the rest of our lives just because the 90s was a dope era for the music, as much as I would like that. tounge.gif

on that note, couple of months now till Cuban Linx 2, trying to stay away from all previews as I dont want it spoiled, Caught that new wu audio a while back though and its great. Same thing as saying hip hop has evolved tho, and you dont hear that hunger in the older cats voices anymore. Raes delivery is just as good as ever tho to be honest, and you do feel he is establishing himself as an artist in his own right, as was his intentions.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to OB4CL2, the New Wu track is just great; the beat and meth's hook are just great. Blackout 2 is p awesome too. It seems the Wu are back on form, which is great to hear!

New Madvillain is on it's way also, some new sh*t was played a few days ago on J Rocc and Madlib's tour. Really can't wait for that.

Cage is dropping his new EP today for free to build up his album release, Depart From Me, next month. If anybody actually likes him that is tounge.gif

meth verse on that new wu takes the track imo, theres a beat on the new CL that rae describes as a razor constantly hitting the plate. Really want to hear it, but like I said f*ck a preview. Ive been spoiling albums by catching leaks and that recently whereas nothing beats sitting down with a smoke and hearing it all for the first time imo. The temptation to hear anything from next madvillain is going to be a killer tho that_guy2057_evilgrin.gif

U god got an album coming soon as well, no high hopes but he may surprise a few people.

^and what the f*ck has happened to cage?

n.e oh sh*t just heard budden has challenged meth to a battle

Yeah is that right. looks like a complete emo overhaul of oneself to me. I never really trust people who undergo drastic changes like that.

I mean, dude even looks a bit like me except for longer hair, the sh*tty clothes, and also that I would never pose looking mournfully out of the window like i really need to borrow 60p to use this here pepsi machine.

look at that f*cking jacket biggrin.gif

edit: wtf

Flesh-n-Bone

I have decided to start recovering from the day when I lost more than half of my music on an accident after formatting my computer.

Starting to listening to what I have. I am glad I am so open when it comes to hip hop music. I listened first to a couple of BDK's songs from "It's a Big Daddy Thing", then switched to Scarface's "Mr Scarface is Back", despite the differences I enjoyed both equally then I listened to DJ Quik's Born and Raised in Compton.

Good thing that I am not simple minded inside music. I used to limit myself into certain styles then I thought it's pretty stupid.

Whatever happened to Xzibit, he broke his two years between each release record which he kept on in 10 years. Currently listening to him. Come back with some new stuff, man.

Listening to Sicx now, great stuff even though he's so unknown.

I like Alkaholic. IMO it's his best song.

His entire "At the Speed of Life" was a great album. He was strong lyrically and has still been coming hard at certain songs throughout his career. He just doesn't have the same raw skills from when he was young, although I wouldn't think he would let me down to an extent that I would no longer bother with his albums in the future.

Also regarding the whole spam in youtube with "you say 50 cent, i say 2pac" is REALLY stupid. Although these who post it are somehow right, they are still stupid to try spamming the comment box with this random thing.

I mean who really expects someone who likes Soulja Boy come to a video which is a Nas song. Yet some are so dumb they still put up these little statements. Really, did you forget only "real" hip hop fans visit videos about "real" hip hop songs?

I've only seen that once.

Anyways, back to the topic of Rap/Hip Hop,

And more, if you haven't heard this DJ and his instrumentals, you are missing out. He completely flips the Nas song on a whole other level, I love how the intro just stops and gets spacey.

Thanks for this. biggrin.gif

I prefer the original, but this is definitely worth a listen: it has the grime I was talking about.

Thought I'd share this. I'm not the big rap fan, but I do greatly enjoy what I feel are some of the better artists in the genre. I've recently found English rapper Dizzee Rascal and his Boy In Da Corner album. Great sh*t.

Have any of you heard of Drake?

He's one of the best new artist out, and raps with Lil Wayne a lot. He puts Lil Wayne to shame, not to say Lil Wayne is that good in the first place, but Drake is a very nice emcee.

Check out some of his music. If you don't like it something's wrong with you.

When his album (Thank Me Later) comes out this year, this dude is gonna blow up. He passed on a million dollar deal twice, so that should let you know the kind of talent this guy has. He used to play on that show Degrassi. He was the kid who got shot and had to be put in a wheel chair.(Jimmy) Anyway check out his music because he is not to be slept on.

I went to HMV today to get Blackout 2 and they told me you have to wait 5 months for it to arrive in the UK or you can order online and get it from them in 5 days! WTF is this sh*t. Mind you, I got Relapse with some new huge headphones so I'm listening to that at the moment. On track 5 now; Insane was Insane to say the least.
