Being as I had cable, I was stuck listening to rap, I grew up on what cable I could see, the folks were mostly against us watching it. (R rated pay channel previews kept coming in, even though it was basic cable!)

Now, you turn on the radio, all you hear is these genres. That's what I'm saying, it doesn't take much to hear something by a rap artist these days!

Flesh-n-Bone

Why not simply leave the radio alone and stick to your own "classic metal" collection?

It's clear enough that the radio only plays "rap" nowadays.

I put rap inside quotes to show that the music I'm referring to shouldn't be labeled as rap.

I think Slamman's right to a degree. I don't really like Em anymore either. I used to like it when he was on his zany sh*t, even when he was doing the serious thing, but recently it's been to all over the place for me. I was hoping to see a bit more consistency in his albums. I gotta say the last thing I liked from him would have to be the Marshall Mathers LP.

Yeah. Off that topic, it is how my ears pick it up, not everyone hears or tastes things the same, obviously, but like the Beatles thread and how they are 'hyped', which is the wrong word to use, but just the same, this is the issue with regard to the rappers getting the most buzz. I tend to think of Hip Hop as more a historical respected genre classification then "rap", Just Crap without the "C" as they say.

I like bands like the Beastie Boys, after they mashed up punk-pop-metal and 'rap'. This has come about much more in recent years via Anthrax first working with Public Enemy and Chuck D. I believe again, NYC upbringing acutely factored in though, often that can be how a movement evolved culture wise, why things happen the way they do.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith commented on working with RunDMC at the time, also doing some key ground-breaking. He said that in his youth he felt the segregation to be a thing to fight against.... That he never sees things in a black|white context. I think he showed his principles and ideals in chosing to work with RunDMC and not compromising the fan base either.

With regard to Flesh N Bone's post and the radio, I'm a stickler for what I like, no contest, but I still feel open minded enough to explore other things, but as I said, that is not just radio, that's true of TV and movies.... all manner of entertainment outlets. Videogames obviously, another one.

Even though I didn't like too much of Eminem ever since his first album, caus it went all to serious or sellout but I kinda like "We Made You" now... guess it's mostly due to "another bomb ass Dre beat", but I also enjoy his lyrics when dissin' celebraties somehow. colgate.gif

Or maybe I'm just grown enough meanwhile, to not just hate him caus of the fact that he's popstar gettin chased by 12 year old females, producing sh*tty to max. decent albums that sold like hell and bringing 50 Cent into the game.

Gonna check the album, I hope he finds back to his roots... his best sh*t was still on the good old Rawkus samplers.

EDIT: For those who haven't seen it yet (can't be too many, lol), here the video I was talking about:

EDIT2: Is it just me or did he loose some weight? At least he looks like "Slim" Shady again... biggrin.gif

Yeah, After the period when he was huge and completely over weight and obese through the depression the drug abuse had lead him into, I heard an interview with him on his Shade 45 station last week saying he was up to running 17 miles a day because he became obsessed with his weight since being fat. So yeah, I'd say he was rather skinny at the moment.

Er well to be honest, the only reason Eminem was releasing crazy sh*t like 'Kill You' back in the day was becuase that was what was going on in his life. He was miserable, young and extremely angry at his life. You wanting consistancy in his albums is like you demanding him to stay depressed for the rest of his life jsut so you can get the 'old shady'

he's moved on in his life and to a degree, matured. I'm pretty certain in saying you will NEVER get the old shady again. But then, that accent isn't helping him much lol.gif

Since we'e talking about eminem, I figure I'd bring up his feud with Icp, it sure resulted with Icp making some funny ass diss songs,

Although I enjoy listening to Eminem but I got to admit, these songs are just hillarious.

Don't know if anyone here listens to the Cool Kids, but they have a new mix tape out. haven't really gotten to listen to it all to form a good opinion at the moment, but as of now it's sounding very very good. It seems like a little different from the bake sale though, the styles don't seem the same. i reccomend though since it's the cool kids... and it's free. biggrin.gif

Anyway just go to their website for free download. Link

I'd enjoy it so much more if Don Cannon didn't ruin it. Hate it when tapes are ruined by Dj drops.

New Busta mixtape also, really good. Looking forward to the 19th.

I very much agree. Expensive Taste's was totally ruined with 'DJ Skee D-D-DJ Skee' and Method's 'Johnny Blaze Strikes' mix-tape, with some J-Love sh*t over the top.

But, on The Cool Kids.. universal cool sound. No. Matter. What.

I just thought that in regards to musical taste Slamman would at least know that it's completely dependent on the individual. Quotes like that are extremely idiotic and simple/narrow minded.

I agree, I Don't mind the once in the beginning, I can deal with that but it really bugs me when they decide its a good idea to represent right in the middle of a song.. like, 3 times. uhg.

GOODNESS f*ckING GRACIOUS SLAMMAN!

Don't bring your bullsh*t here, we've already had some massive flamewars in this topic and we don't want another.

Rap is certainly not crap, but I won't get into that argument because fanboys like you just don't f*cking learn. Even if someone presents the world's best argument ever saying rap is better than other genres, fanboys like you would just cover it up with bullsh*t just to make yourself feel good. That said, there are no genres which are "better" than another. It's a matter of taste and personal preference.

Things like this make me glad that rap (even the commercial stuff) is more popular than rock and metal on the media. Why? Because I love seeing these sh*thead fanboys being pissed off.

If you don't like rap, it's perfectly fine, but don't come into the rap topic and try to start sh*t. You're not welcome here.

(I'm a person who listens to any kind of music and love rock and metal as well as rap).

....So how do you guys think Eminem's latest album will do? He's my favorite rapper, but I ain't sure about this album. I liked the "We Made You" song and video, but I am not really feeling that "3 AM" song.

It'll sell sh*tloads, it seems to appeal more to the mainstream and less to the people who love his older stuff. I'll be getting it, no doubt, I'm just not keen on this accent he is using. I'm hoping that on Relapse 2 he isn't using it.

Snippets of two more tracks have been released, Underground and Stay Wide Awake.

I also like ''We made you'' but ''3 AM' is just not him. I don't know why I feel this way but Relapse is not his best album even though all of his fansites say it is.. For me it's just not.

3am NOT him?

It's as close to HIM as he's ever been since Marshall Mathers LP I think. killing people and taking all crazy kind of pills. Sounds like EMinem

Haha! I love that. In every single album he's always had a song that starts with 'People keep asking me' lol.gif But hmm, judging from the 'Stay Wide awake' snippet, the entire album will carry that accent. Shame, but lyrics and beats will still be immense.

I suppose he's using thr accent so he can RHYME new words. I mean, in his normal voice he can't rhyme skin with again for 3 AM unless he pronounces again like 'Agin'. Just gives him more rhyming options.

Edit2: annnnnnd so has My Mom. Em's gonna loose some money methinks. monocle.gif

Edit3: Someone on 2dopeboyz has the album i think, he's posting all the tracks. Hello, Medicine Ball, Same Song and Dance and some skits have just dropped.

It's leaked. monocle.gif

Leaked?

I'll still be buying it on the 19th but yay get to hear it all now smile.gif I kinda figured as soona s the snippets were released that the rest of the album wasn;t far behind. Shame tho, they did so well to keep it behind closed door for this long.

Good to hear there's no accent on Insane, lsitening to it at the moment. Insane it f*cking mad lol.gif

I remember on a Shade45 interview that Eminem said he was the only person to carry a copy. Did he lsoe it or something :S I don;t understand how leaks occur? I assume someone helping Em mix the album must have snuck it out of there? So doesnt that mean one of his friends just betrayed him? Sucks.

I wouldnt say Eminem was ever really a 'Hood' artist

Hmm interesting

Eminem's released his verse of the 'Crack A Bottle' Music Video They really are taking their sweet time with this one. It's not even in the charts any more. I don't think a video will boost it much now.

THat video is NOT what I was expecting from that at all. Very confused at the angle they're going for here notify.gif

Can't say I'll be buying this album. It's...ok but not the type of rap I like from Em. I'm more into his songs like Public Enemy No1 not this other stuff that he gets into. His beats are knocking like always but I just can't get into what he's saying.

Blind Joe Death

Downloading Relapse as I type this. Will edit with my thoughts.

edit: 10x better than Encore. But unfortunately for Eminem I feel like this album is going to receive horrible reviews from the critics.

Overall I like it. Shows some signs of the old great Slim Shady.

The album starts off great, then gets kinda sh*tty as it gets closer to the middle, but then begins to climb again and the last few tracks really lift the album as a whole. Deja Vu, Beautiful are Underground are great. Some great skits on there as well, the intro skit is the perfect way to lead into the album and 3am.
