I bought Fan Dam & The Cold Vein on Vinyl on release. Not to sound elitist about it, but I was probably listening to DJX artists when you were in short trousers, fact of the matter is 90% of the djx roster is weak as hell.

 

And for the record, I have listened to easily enough Lif to know that he wasn't that great to start with and has been going downhill ever since.

 

I was drunk when i first posted that, so it probably came off as a lot more abrasive that it should of, but you remind me of so many jux/anticon fanboys who are incredibly blinkered about the hip hop they listen to.

 

 

 

To close, the standout track of the most slept on East coast classic album of the 90s.

I dont like the hook but Em and Dre are genius for doing it. Its plenty poppy enough to get lots of airplay and inevitably it will chart very high.

 

The beat is rather catchy actually and I have to admit I laughed hard on more than a few occasions at the video and the lyrics.

 

Decent. Personally I feel its the weakest of his funny first songs. Real Slim Shady, Without Me, Just Lose it (actually maybe slightly better than that?) but ill still have it on repeat and end up learning the lyrics by this time next week. Shame about that voice he puts on, but it doesnt bother me too much

 

Personally I'm not going to put him down too much yet, its still early days. He has ALWAYS hit hard with his second single, when he gets down to business with the serious sh*t hes so good at. Way I Am, Cleanin' Out My Closet, Like Toy Soldiers. Need I say any more..

 

I expect a Proof song for his second. Its an obvious issue/fitting tribute for him to cover as a single

Ems new single is exactly what I was expecting... horrible. Unfunny lyrics, awful accent and a weak beat but hey that's your typical first single Em so we'll have to wait and see, I am expecting his new albums to suck hard though.

Yeah Marshall is really killing his fanbase with that ridiculous voice he puts on. The video itself was kinda funny, but the song still doesn't even come close to matching Without Me or the Real Slim Shady in both hilarity and overall quality.

 

Still optimstic about Relapse, but this definitely didn't help lol.

For foreign Hip-Hop check out Sido, Fler, Bushido and B-Tight; they're German Hip-Hop artists who my friend turned me on to, personally I like Sido the best. They are on iTunes so it shouldn't be too hard to find some of their music.

Thing about Em is, he seems to be trying to go back to capturing what made him popular in the first place - but its just not paying off right now.

Well everone has bad albums. Encore wasnt great, but every artist I listen too has had 1 or 2 sh*tty albums I refuse to listen too frequently. Personally, one reason why I think the likes of Dr Dre are still hailed as being on top of their game, is becuse HE hasnt released an album in 10 years.

 

Wise move. I believe if he released as many as Busta Rymes/Jay Z/Em or even Nas, we'd see him in exactly the same light by now if he were on his 6/7/8 album.

 

(Note: Im not saying any of those artists have fallen off, but simply examples of artists that have a consistant track record of releasing albums)

 

Still have hope for Em's second single tho. Its always solid stuff

 

 

@Venom: The video/lyrics seems to be rubbing Bill o Reilly the wrong way on US Television. Seems to me it's getting exactly the [Media] respons Em's looking for.

GRODT is overall an overlooked album imo. People can call 50 a studio gangster all they want, but I don't remember an album blowing up the industry as much as that one did. Many Men, High All the Time, Heat, Blood Hound...all classics.

 

Also check out Power of the Dollar if you haven't, his unreleased album before he got shot. It's been mentioned quite a few times in the topic, but it's always great to show a typical 50 fan how he used to really spit.

Get Rich or Die Trying is a bit of a cop out, it had it's tight joints, but there were too many party tracks on it for my tastes. I've still got it laying around somewhere too, if I could find it I'd love to give it another listen, if nothing else to bring back some memories.

 

Power of the Dollar is sick, only heard a couple of tracks, but it truly showcases what 50's capable of doing. If only he could go back to his old ways, I'd love to hear him spit like he used to; but it won't happen, so I'm not really bothered.

Power Of The Dollar is a dope album for sure. I've got Guess Who's Back? as well, a compilation of early tracks by 50, including some sh*t from POTD. It's a shame albums like this are pushed to the side by "underground heads" just because it's by 50 Cent.

 

GRODT is a decent album. I can get bored with it pretty easily but when I'm in the mood it can be a load of fun. After that though, I can't stand anything 50 has put out. The Massacre is unlistenable imo. Candy Shop, Just A Lil Bit etc. - all that crap makes me wanna hurl.

 

Hustler's Ambition, I'll Whip Ya Head Boy, and When It Rains It Pours (all from Get Rich Or Die Tryin' Soundtrack) are some guilty pleasure's of mine though.

I'm also liking Asher Roth's Asleep in the Bread Aisle. He'll still be getting the Em comparisons, but he stands on his own with the album imo. Not the greatest, but some very listenable tracks like She Don't Wanna Man, La Di Da, and of course I Love College, which I'm sure I'll still be bumping well into the summer.

He isn't bad, but he's nothing special at all. He'll be getting Em comparisons because he pretty much copied him, there's no way he just happens to sound like him. I have Asleep in the Bread Aisle but can't say I'll listen to it again.

 

There's a new Dilla album coming out in June, Jay Stay Paid, 25 unreleased beats with vocals from DOOM, Raekwon, Blu, and Black Thought. Safe to say it will be excellent.
