I'm actually quite enjoying being able to use the forums normally without the constant timeouts I was getting whilst the PGC was open. I've noticed a marked improvement in the forum performance since 2300GMT on Friday. Having a responsive server that allows members to chat about GTA4, GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice City, GTA3, GTA2, GTA London, GTA, sports, movies, tv, cars, computers, gta modding, music, graphics, debates, and web design is worth a dozen PGCs imo. I'm not discounting your opinion at all, but you have to understand that a community is only really valued by those who are part of it. So obviously you couldn't give two flying sh*ts. And don't get me wrong - I love a working forum, too. It's grand. I'm not saying this didn't make sense - I'm saying we should open up the OGA. What difference would there be between the PGC and an open OGA? They'd still have topics stretching to hundreds of posts with little content other than idle chat that could, and should, be done in IRC or IM. I'm not suggesting that unofficial gangs be allowed to open their own threads. In my mind, the vague idea is something like this - the OGA is open for all to read, and participate if said gang allows it. Spam deemed unfit by the gang is punishable by temp banning, etc. There may be one topic in the forum - a PGC topic - to keep tabs on subgangs and the rest of us. The whole point is to not let the Gang scene slide into obscurity - because, seriously, if all official gangs become to the outside forum are member groups and pips, what's the bloody point? Its not spam free but every spam post there is is place correctly, fitting in the context and usually is funny. No boons running around making random gangs and spamming up the place with ussless spam. Not to mention its all Zaibatsu spamming it up Seriously. Now, having a gang at all is a privilege to be granted in extreme worthy cases (as opposed to the [very-] recent past whereby anyone could have a gang and when officialdom was granted it was generally a formality - i.e. the past two gang 'races' where victory was for Zaibatsu and Feroci respectively). I'd like to see some type of voting system (don't care who votes, particularly) with one or two of the officials voted out. I mean, official gangs are supposed to be the creme of the crop, and I'd hate to see some unworthy gangs flaunting official status when it's supposed to be a thing of superiority. Stat time: at the time of the PGC's closure, official gang members outstripped their unofficial counterparts by a ratio of 2.5:1 (or thereabouts)... I understand that those holding official status earned it at the time, but time has passed and I'm doubtful as to whether some of the gangs still hold that aura of elite-ness that the powers that be saw and valued when they voted them into officialdom in the years past. I really miss the PCG, I'm using the irc but it's not the same. I'm supporting otter idea and I think that official has no sense without the not-official part. What I don't understand at the moment is why there're people that until midnight (here was midnight when everything was close) were desperate and close to suicide and now are trying to give out life advice to everyone that is now home-less, or high PCG spammers now talking about the sacrality of OGA. No hard feeling towards those people and gangs (that I like and support) but talking about earning with those examples isn't the best thing. Much love. Maybe you'll talk about it sometimes. Why not speed it up a bit and save your energy for some real tragedy (they do exist, I sh*t you not) Not saying the PGC sucked anyway and it's good that it's gone but then again, I'd rather have a fast GTAForums than a PGC which I do not even visit that much anyway (and I speak for a lot of people here) ... but I digress. Does real pain and suffering mean we should take everything else with a glazed over, puritanical blase? Nobody's actually shedding tears or slicin' up them's wrists, here. But to pull out the old 'starving kids in africa' bit is silly. It belittles everyone who misses the PGC - and we won't, by the way, miss it less over time, just like we never stop missing 'the good old days.' I mean, I mean, Rusty Griswold put it best. "This sucks." Runey - again, man, read my posts here. I'm NOT suggesting the OGA become anything like the PGC - aside from the fact that it is visible, and act as gateways between the community and the Official gangs. This is just personal opinion, but, I don't think officialdom speaks too much about a member other than which bandwagon they side on in this topic. A lot of times, I see no real difference in quality of the members of certain official gangs compared to well-respected unofficial gangs with literate, intelligent members. The members of official gangs in enough cases just got lucky and picked the right unofficial gang at the right time when they could have picked an equal one that did not eventually reach official status. Is that a good enough argument to decide whether certain groups of forum members get no place to chat off-topic with their friends while others have several of their own? General Chat is fine, but a different type of chat, more closely focused on one particular topic or thought, goes on in there. There was spam, but for the most part it was a good place to post more random and informal posts that were often equally as worthy and literate as those in Lounge Chat. I don't think an IRC channel is really a great replacement either. PGC was kind of spammy at times, but it shouldn't have been just completely wiped off the map with little warning. If we had better and more gang moderators who were actually active and came into the forum and could keep control of the forums and curb spamming, who did something other than locking old topics (though much appreciated as it helped performance) then that would have helped kept up the quality of the place. Also, I have noticed that the deletion of one big forum (PGC) seems to have solved the slow forums problem. If deleting just one large forum was the cure for now, wouldn't having even a couple dozen PGC supporters donate 5 or 10 dollars via Paypal or some other method be able to buy more bandwidth or somehow help forum performance for a while. People seem understandably upset and fairly adamant about this, so I could see that happening with little hesitation. Forgive me, I don’t know the intimate technical and financial situation of the forum traffic, but there has to be something better to do than deleting one of the reasons people come here, to improve the server. Couldn't agree more, the PGC had already just become a chat room anyway, and it was putting a huge strain on the server, I have only run into 1 500- Internal Server Error since the PGC was made read-only...which seems very good. Also, the reason that official gang members are disagreeing with making the OGA public, is because we know that its not a very easy path to get into an official gang.
