None of you people talk baseball anymore?

The Astros have lost nine straight. That is f*cking awesome.

I don't think Clemens was worth it to the Yankees, who I don't think will make the playoffs.

I gotta say I'm curious as to what's gonna happen today.

two days ago Barrett and Zambrano got into it in the dugout, and a little later in the clubhouse...sending Barrett to the hospital with a split lip

and yesterday Piniella got into one of his classic umpire tirades (minus the base throwing) and was of course ejected, and may be facing a suspension for allegedly kicking the umpire

The only possible scenario today has got to be a bench clearing brawl lol

Jesus...what is going on in baseball? Is it full moon?

First the Zambrano/Barrett fight, then that Braves minor league coach going nuts, countless managers getting ejected, players getting suspended for tirades with umpires.

@Mainland- Thanks. icon14.gif

Either that guy is really insane or he was putting on a show. But it's still hilarious. The rosin grenade = classic.

Yeah, that guy went of the deep end. I watched the Pinella video and I didn't see where he kicked the umpire.

Did anybody see that no-hitter by Justin Verlander last night? That was brilliant. He pitched a 102 mph pitch on his last batter. How did his arm not fall off pitching that hard late in the game? So congrats to him.

That dude is amazing. He throws some smoke and his breaking ball is crazy. That Double Play in the the 8th wasn't bad either.

Verlander is going to be a great major league pitcher I think. He knows that it's not all about blasting heaters past people all night, or about always getting strikeouts. He knows how to work people and get quick outs. I love that he can sling fireballs and still go the distance. I like that in a starter. I just hope he doesn't wear himself out like Pryor did and end up being half-useless. Pryor was going to be the sh*t. Such a shame..

Haha at the Pryor thing. It's sad that he never became anything. But yeah, Verlander looks like a solid pitcher. I also quite like Scott Kazmir from the Devil Rays but he isn't having that great of a year. He needs to work on his number of pitches. As for other pitchers, Jake Peavy is a stud and I think Josh Beckett got his first loss last night.

Yovani Gallardo is pitching tonight

He did pretty good in his debut.

He also hit a RBI Double in his first ever AB.

Yeah he didn't do too badly. Another good rookie prospect to keep an eye on is Sean Marshall in CHC. He's 3-2 with a 2.12 ERA and 27K through his first 5 starts.

@ Runey - Hey ni**er. You gonna play some Pick'em/FF this season? tounge.gif

It seems to be taking longer this year. Did they extend it?

It does seem longer. I never got the separation of the leagues anyway. I always thought both should either go with DHs or both should go with pitchers batting.

And nice job by Johan Santana for shutting out the Mets.

He only gave up 4 hits and 1 walk on 92 pitches. 10 pitches an inning? That is total domination. He also got his first career 2B last night.

Last night Craig Biggio solidified his place as a first ballot hall of famer by hitting his 2998th, 2999th, 3000th, 3001st, and 3002nd hits in an extra inning defeat of the Rockies last night, at home in Houston.

Biggio's career achievements:

2,781 games (23rd all-time)

3,002 hits (26th all-time)

658 doubles (6th all-time)

1,821 runs (14th all-time)

1,152 walks (58th all-time)

283 hit-by-pitch (1st all-time)

413 stolen bases (61st all-time)

286 HRs

1,151 RBI

•7-time All Star

the only player in Major League Baseball history with at least 600 doubles, 3,000 hits, 250 homers and 400 steals.

•led the majors in runs scored in 1995 and 1997 and in doubles in 1998 and 1999

in 1997, became the first player in baseball history not to hit into a single double play while playing an entire 162 game season

•in 1997, scored 146 runs, which is the most of any National League player since the Phillies' Chuck Klein scored 152 runs in 1932.

•in 1998, became the second player all-time to have 50 stolen bases and 50 doubles in the same season.

holds the National League record for most lead-off home runs in a career with 52. He is 2nd in MLB behind Rickey Henderson (81).

Craig Biggio is a hall of famer, no doubt about it. Congrats to him and Astros fans for his accomplishments and on the milestone of 3,000 hits.

I remember watching Baseball Tonight and I think they said they didn't think Biggio was a Hall Of Famer. Maybe I was hearing wrong, because that sounds crazy to me.

Sniper.

I'm thinking he is going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is truly one of the best.

C.C. is the first 12-game winner in the MLB.

Been watching Baseball quite a bit here in England (it's on at 1/2am, but I rarely sleep much anyway), however I'm a bit lost when it comes to stats, when a player comes out;

It shows HR (Home Runs I assume) .RBI (What's that? Runs By Innings?) and AVG (Which again I assume is average, but how is an average calculated? Just like in Cricket?). Appreciate any help to further my understanding of the sport.

Oh and is the All Star Game worth staying up for and watching in a week?
