Digital_Utopia
You gotta love the inner city rivalry though. oh no doubt...I love the rivalry. It just gets annoying when their fans act so damn insecure, and need to validate themselves by bringing up the Cubs. For that reason, I happen to like the Cubs/Cards rivalry a lot more. But anyways...looks like the NL Central is going to be a battle this year...a lot of unknowns regarding the pitching situation for the Cards, Cubs, and Astros...Reds look a little light in the pitching department, but overall I feel they're pretty balanced. Brewers seem to be the only team in need of some offense. Bill Hall isn't a Pujols or Lee...he's not going to be able to carry the team himself. The brew-crew picked up a top 5 hitting catcher in estrada. They have a lot of guys that will get you a single or a double a game and thats where hall will rack up the RBI's. No doubt that they have the best rotation in the NL central though. Sheets, Capuano, Soupy, Bush, Vargas/Villanueva. Their bullpen is solid with a great closer in Cordero, and also have their ex-all-star turnbow who pitched a great 8th inning last night, looks like he might be back to normal and has added a nice curveball to his arsenal Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/269031-2007-major-league-baseball-topic/?do=findComment&comment=4146388 Share on other sites
Captain Keyes
Best example is that the Astros fan hates the Cardinals....BoSox fans hate the Yankees, and Cardinal fans hate both the Astros and the Cubs. Notice the trend here? all of these teams are within their own divisions. Try keeping your hatred towards the Indians, Tigers, or even the Twins...because those are the teams that are going to prevent you from getting to the playoffs, not the Cubs. For the record, as an Astros fan I hate the Cubs infinitely more than the Cardinals or any other team for that matter. Nothing personal against you Cub fans. The more I look at it, the more the Brewers look like they're going to come out on top of their division even if their offense is subpar. Pitching wins games and Milwaukee is solid in that regard. Even if your team has a .300 team BA the opposing pitchers still beat you 70% of the time. gtaluva
Brewers pitching is solid. And even though on paper they don't have many homerun hitters, they have enough guys who will hit their share of homers. Plus the Brewers always find ways to score runs regardless of homers. Mainland Marauder
The Astros made the World Series in 2005, but ranked ninth in the National League in home runs despite playing in what's thought to be a hitter's park. GTAIV_21
The brewers lost tonight, which might be a blessing in disguise. Last 4 years they've gone at least 2-0 (last year 5-0) and we all know how those seasons turn out. I'm just glad they get a loss at home so they don't let all the hype get to them. Souppy was solid tonight, 7 IP, 4 ER's. Exactly what you want your #3 pitcher to do. I'm pumped for the game on friday, go brewers! cubbies blow! No offense taken as far as I'm concerned fans of every team in the NL central should hate the Cubs. lol on paper (which tends to be a non-issue with the Cubs) the Cubs have the best offense in the division, their pitching however contains a lot of ifs. While their starting 5 has a career era of 4.12, alot of the success depends on how much Miller continues to return to his pre-tommy john form, if Hill can continue to pitch (as in the 2nd half of '06) to his potential, and if Marquis' ERA last season was a fluke. Now it hasn't been so heated until about 2000 when Mike Scioscia (a former Dodger catcher who helped win the world series) became the Angels' Manager, and the Angels started beating the Dodgers whenever they went to interleague play. It used to be that the Dodgers were a better team, and that was the end of it. Us Angels fans couldn't say anything. PS. that's pretty much how the Lakers/Clippers are now. Lets look at a few around the world of sports, shall we? Yankees/Mets Cubs/White Sox Lakers/Clippers Jets/Giants Islanders/Rangers See what I'm getting at here? oh I'm not saying that an inner city rivalry is anything new...it's just the Cubs/White Sox rivalry is a bit beyond the norm. it could be compared to the Yankees/Mets rivalry to the point of one team has a much larger national fan base, and the other team's fans hate them for it...call it the 2nd team insecurity complex if you will. But Cubs/White Sox is actually closer to a Yankees/Red Sox type rivalry...in other words, this rivalry isn't just heated, its downright hostile. I mean we're not talking Jets/Giants as much as we're talking Bears/Packers here when the Cubs/White Sox play each other: fans fighting in the stands, bench clearing brawls on the field, and parents disowning their kids for being fans of the other team are the norm. And this is all from regular season interleague play...these two teams haven't met in the postseason since 1906...which is probably a good thing lol Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/269031-2007-major-league-baseball-topic/?do=findComment&comment=4150473 Share on other sites

connect4
I gotta aquire some White Sox tickets, hopefully we'll have a 2005 type of year.P.S. I hate the Cubs, and I hope they never win a ring. I always think it's pretty amusing that the only team's fans that are as obsessed with the Cubs as Cubs fans are, are White Sox fans. The only reason true Cubs fans hated the Sox winning the World Series, is that we knew we'd never hear the end of it from Sox fans....otherwise we were happy for the team. Unfortunately it doesn't work the other way around. Haven't you guys realized how pathetic it looks to compare your team's every move, or every accomplishment to the Cubs? In 2003 you never heard one Cubs fan on TV say anything about the Sox...Lo and Behold, he Sox get to the World Series, and there's at least one Sox fan babbling about how the Sox got to the World Series before the Cubs did. Regardless of how redundant that was (the Sox "beat" the Cubs to the World Series all the way back in '59) It was just really sad, that in the moment of your team's greatest triumph, that those fans had to drag in another team into the picture. If you guys want to have your own identity stop being so concerned about what the Cubs are doing except when we play you guys. Best example is that the Astros fan hates the Cardinals....BoSox fans hate the Yankees, and Cardinal fans hate both the Astros and the Cubs. Try keeping your hatred towards the Indians, Tigers, or even the Twins...because those are the teams that are going to prevent you from getting to the playoffs, not the Cubs. Just a little trash talk from a South sider, the Cubs will always be the more Nationally loved team, but they'll never win a World Series imo.The Rivalry intensified when Michael Barrett swung on A.J. for no reason. I've attended 2 Cubs/Sox Games, and I sat next to some Die Hard Cub Fans who talked alot before the game, but we had the last laugh because the Cubbies lost. I'd love a Cubs/White Sox World Series for bragging rights, so I'm rooting for the Cubs to make it to the world Series, so the Sox can beat them on the Highest stage. See you guys at Sox-35th. I'd love a Cubs/White Sox World Series for bragging rights, so I'm rooting for the Cubs to make it to the world Series, so the Sox can beat them on the Highest stage. See you guys at Sox-35th. there's nothing wrong with rooting against the Cubs, especially when we play each other, and I don't have any problems with anybody hating the team period. It's just those Sox fans that are so preoccupied with the Cubs that they have to bring them up when something has nothing to do with the team. Was Barrett wrong for punching AJ? yeah...but he had a genuine reason to do so If AJ was in the process of doing what Barrett originally thought he was going to do. He thought AJ was going to start some sh*t, so he reacted accordingly, and yeah it turned out Barrett was wrong. That's not to say that there wasn't a lot of people in baseball that wouldn't have bought Barrett a beer after that. lol As to whether the Cubs will ever win a World Series, that's your opinion of course..but until 2005, the Sox weren't that much better. 1908 compared to 1917, and 1945 compared to 1959 really doesn't figure to be much of a difference other than bragging rights. This Cubs team right now has a whole lot more talent on it than even the 2003 team did, and it's going to take a few more months to see where this team is heading towards. The Sox aren't doing bad at all either right now, although I'm still concerned about your owner's true intentions based off of what he did with the Bulls. Yes, I agree that a Cubs/White Sox World Series would be an awesome event, and probably a very intense 7 game series. Remember, that the Cubs vs White Sox isn't always as lopsided as it was last year. Cubs record vs White Sox 2006 2-4 2005 3-3 2004 4-2 2003 1-2 2002 2-1 2001 1-2 2000 1-2 total: 14-16 so both teams are pretty even when they play each other...regardless of how much better one team is doing than the other. I have honestly no problems with the White Sox, and wish them the best except of course, when they play the Cubs. Even still, if the Cubs lose vs the Sox..it doesn't strike me as any more disappointing than losing against any other team. The only thing that honestly annoys the sh*t out of me are Sox fans I don't even know, that need to shove it down my throat (I have the same opinion of some of those so-called Cubs fans that do this as well) If you're a friend of mine, and want to give me some sh*t about the Sox beating the Cubs, or winning the series..that's completely different. But a complete stranger doing that just makes them look like an ass. But seriously, you don't pick your team, and if you do pick a team you stick with it...I respect anybody who does this, no matter what team you like. Anybody who jumps on a bandwagon, or likes a team because they're "cool" (yeah some of you Cubs and Yankees fans...I'm talking to you) isn't a real fan in the first place and in the second place their opinion doesn't matter.
