The only somewhat valuable losses as far as the Astros are concerned are Luke Scott, our everyday LF, and Troy Patton, who is basically our only pitching prospect. I can understand the need for this to be a multi-for-1 player deal, but I am hesitant to say we compiled the best package to get Tejada and protect our future investments at the same time. Now we have a beefy middle order (Pence, Pence, Berkman, Lee, Tejada), but we have no speed and no pitching. Roy Oswalt is our only arm, and we got rid of Brad Lidge earlier in the Hot Stove season. So basically, I'm not sure we're any better off. I'm psyched about Tejada though- that guy is a beast.

Lots of big names there, including Clemens. No mention of Pujols or A-Rod though..

I must say I was surprised at some of the names there.

They interviewed A-Rod and he claimed that he had never used them in his life. And that he had never seen any fellow players do it either. He acted like a little roid virgin.

I don't think A-Rod took steroids.

I don't think A-Rod took steroids, but it won't be a shocker if it's revealed that he did....or any other player for that matter.

True.

When did you start using a post wrapper? That color reminds me of the dipping sauce Buffalo Wild Wings uses for their onion rings. It's the exact same color. Goddamn that sh*t is good....now I'm hungry..

Breaking News According to ESPNews.

Andy Pettite has admitted to using Human Growth Hormones.

USA Today reports the Mets have landed Johan Santana from the Twins for Carlos Gomez, Deolis Guerra, Kevin Mulvey and Philip Humber.

A contract extension would still have to be worked out, so even if it is officially agreed to, this will likely linger through Friday at least. It's a pretty disappointing day for Twins fans. Both packages being discussed by the Red Sox and Yankees during the winter meetings seemed more attractive to us. Gomez and Guerra are big-time talents, but Gomez lacks plate discipline and might not fit in the top half of the lineup and an awful lot could go wrong before Guerra even sniffs the majors. Mulvey and Humber are third starters at best and probably more like fourths. It's a whole lot better than losing Santana for draft picks next winter, but we'd have taken a Phil Hughes or Jacoby Ellsbury package over this. Jan. 29 - 4:29 pm et

Good trade for the Mets. They give up the number 1, 4, 6 and 7 prospects in their farm team according to Baseball America, but in return they get the best lefty in baseball for a (most likely) long term deal.

Good trade for Santana because he moves to the lighter National League, to a contending league champ, and probably locks up $20 million a year for 6 or 7 seasons.

At least now I get to see him several times a year when the Mets play in Houston. smile.gif

Good pickup for the Mets, they're clearly the favorite in the NL East, if not the NL itself if they can finalize, which I don't see why they won't.

Doesn't anyone here give a sh*t about baseball? How depressing. sad.gif

Anyways:

A source close to Brian McNamee told the New York Daily News that the trainer gave the Justice Department's BALCO investigators vials with traces of steroids and growth hormone, as well as blood-stained syringes and gauze pads that may contain Roger Clemens' DNA.

McNamee's lawyers wouldn't say that was the case, though they did say they had evidence linking Clemens to performance enhancers. "This is evidence the government has that we believe will corroborate Brian in every significant way," said McNamee lawyer Earl Ward.

Second source: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3233878

...a source told the Daily News that McNamee gave vials with traces of steroids and human growth hormone, as well as blood-stained syringes and gauze pads that might contain Clemens' DNA, to the Justice Department's BALCO investigators.

Clemens has spent all this time and money having reports written and proclaiming that all his critics were liars. Well, you can only call people liars for so long. Eventually you have to produce evidence in your defense. It seems like just the opposite has happened for him.

I hope this knocks everyone off the "Roger is the best evarrr and would never cheat" tree.

Well, according to a report, Curt Schilling may need shoulder surgery, and could end his career.

If that's true, it's a damn shame, really, since he is one of the most likable players in all of baseball, in my opinion.

Sometimes he's very likable, and other times he opens his mouth too much. He's always making strong statements on his blog and ESPN likes to reference it a lot whenever baseball is in full swing.

pssst, it's 2008.

Schilling isn't going to have surgery, so he should be able to pitch at least part of this season.

I figured he'd miss a bit of time anyways, and with Beckett, Dice-k, Wakefield, Lester, Buchholz, and Tavarez to spot-start, I'm not too worried.

I'll be sad to see the House That Babe Built finally go away, but that new stadium will be ridiculously pretty.

Wow, party suites, member's only restaurants and martini bars. Is Steinbrenner finally coming into the latter half of the 20th century.

As for the lull of this topic. It's February, and Baseball is pretty much dead for at least a couple more weeks.

One of my few regrets in life is that I still haven't popped my cherry and seen a game at Yankee Stadium. There's far too much history in that building to pass up the chance to get there this year. I've been to Shea many times, but this season...I'm getting to the hallowed halls of Yankee Stadium before they close up shop. Here's hoping I can time it well enough to see my two favorite Yankee pitchers in action...Petite and Rivera. I'll bring pics!!

And I hear you, darthYenik. I've always enjoyed baseball...but I never get into it heavy until the tail end of spring.

I was watching ESPN News just now and it was reported that Pettitte stated in his report that Clemens talked about using HGH. Clemens has repeatedly denied any mention of taking PEDs, of course, but this would be a huge blow to his credibility and his testimony if this turns out to be true. I can't say I'm surprised though. I've thought he was guilty all along.

Well, for me I'm in the thick of hockey season, going down the road to the playoffs, that happens to pretty much coincide with the beginning of the baseball season. So if the Ducks make the playoffs(which is about a 85% chance), then I wont be into baseball possibly until June. The same thing somewhat happens at the end of the baseball season, when hockey season starts. Of course the Angels haven't given me much reason to be excited this off season.

I think the most excited I got was just after the playoffs when A-rod was rumored to want to play in California.

Clemens will deny HGH use until he dies. Or at least until after he retires.

I hear you, I'm the same way but with basketball.

A-Rod would have been a huge addition to the Angels. But I'll tell you what, as much as I like A-Rod...Vlad Guerrero is probably my favorite player. From his demeanor to his cannon of an arm to his consistent ability to hit for contact and power...you gotta respect the guy. Label me a typical greedy Yankee fan, cause I always wished Steinbrenner busted out the checkbook on him. blush.gif

Speaking of the Bombers, you gotta love that their veteran pitcher is busy giving depositions to congressional committees. Looks like he may miss some spring action...I just hope he's in ship shape shortly after opening day.

And what the hell is NY management doing in keeping Joba in the bullpen? The guy is a 22 year old flamethrower who needs to get some innings under his belt.

I agree, but I also have a feeling as soon as anyone in the rotation is out for a length of time, Joba might see some action spot starting. They're being really protective of him.

So something interesting. Old but interesting. The Angels are keeping their big four outfielders, and are going to rotate DH between them. This probably spells the end of Juan Rivera wearing an Angels' uniform. Unless he can play short stop. They have a huge hole there.

What do you think about K-Rod demanding a long term deal? He supposedly would ask for $13-$15 million per for 4 years minimum. That sort of money is ridiculous. Francisco Cordero signed a 4yr/$46 million contract this off season and that money made me choke on my coffee. Relief pitchers and the value they provide (locking down leads) is grossly overvalued in the player market. Teams pay out the ass for a position that is fairly easy to replace, normally. I think the price of a save is not what the market deems it, at this point. Of course it could all be a part of the Boras Factor, which I feel is the driving momentum in baseball markets for players getting exorbitant contracts.

Jonathan Papelbon disagrees with you.

In an interview (I think it was the NY Post), he said the MFYs should keep Joba in the bullpen because his situation is just like Papelbon's was a couple years ago, and he feels that they are very similar pitchers.

Also, wtf. Why is it still the 2007 baseball topic. Someone needs to make a 2008 one.
